As a 4.3 owner I can confirm the back two plugs were a pain to change. The 4.3 is a pretty good engine though, plenty of power for my 2012 Silverado SWB
The 4.3 has been around awhile! I don’t think they get enough credit, they’ve stood the test of time, they will run and pull just as good and long as the V8s . they were actually a vortec in 1986, ten years ahead of the LS based V8 vortecs

@@vehcor hey vechor ! i have a question, can somone maintain their car forever? like im planning to buy a 2010 ish g class, but im worried that it breaks after high mileage, thanks
@@ahmadsjc7775 In principal, yes. But the reality is you are at the mercy of the people that make maintenance parts the car, whether those are aftermarket or OE (original equipment). Unless it's something that is in VERY high demand (American muscle cars from the late 1960s to mid 1970s come to mind), you will eventually hit a point where you won't be able to maintain it just because you won't be able to get parts any more. A good example is BMWs from the late 1970s to early 1980s - certain parts are no longer made, and anything you try to buy used will be broken in the same way as the parts you are trying to replace. American muscle cars from the late 1980s to early 1990s are in the same boat. If you need a radiator for a late 1980's Ford Mustang, they aren't made any more by anyone. Your only option is to try to find a good condition used unit somewhere.

I have a 2007.5 (GMT 900) Sierra. The only options above this are 4x4, 4.8 v8 and HD suspension. It's nice having a somewhat simple truck in a day of tons of electronics. I do have to envy the ease of the headlights on this one though, mine are WAY more annoying. I also had to replace the hitch on mine due to rust and it uses that exact same model. Mine was a bit more challenging though using only hand tools on a gravel driveway 4 months after knee reconstruction surgery. I was a bit shocked when I discovered they don't really have real bumpers, but those chrome pieces are more like a hard bumper cover and it's really just a bunch of brackets holding things together. This truck while not a big pricey, high-level truck, will make someone a good reliable daily driver that will last quite a while. It won't be fast or tow a huge trailer, but it'll work hard for many years. Taken care of, that thing has a lot of years and miles left in it.

I always found the problem with LED bulb replacements is that the cutoff at the top edge is not as abrupt as a regular bulb - it's not about led versus halogen, and it's not about brightness. I think it's to do with the size of the element versus filament, and how the reflector/refractor is designed for the smaller light origin. The center of the light can be the same height but the more gradual cutoff can still cast enough light above the "cutoff" line to dazzle oncoming cars. I tried 3 different brands in my Bronco and eventually gave up. If you can find an LED bulb where the element is the same size and position as the original bulb then it would be fine.

I believe I have that very same "frame rack on a stick" great video, I've been working my way through your older vids watching all the Chevy/gmc content. Lots of useful info.
Oooohhhhh.. this is gonna be a good ole Scott special. Wow... we have a full length feature too. Stay safe and be well. Have a great weekend if your not too snowed in.
I owned a 2002 Silverado WT with a 4.3 for 15 years. It was the same color as your project truck. Along the way I had to replace multiple ignition coils, two sets of front hubs, all the brake and fuel lines, and several brake calipers. At around 100k I had coolant in my oil from a leak under the intake, which wasn't a cheap fix. The distributor caps corroded on all those trucks because they were prone to condensation. The AC line that runs across the firewall would drip on them, so GM added that piece of foam pipe insulation. Mine was installed at the dealer a while after I got the truck. I got rid of my WT when it needed bumpers and door bottoms because of rust, plus the 5-speed manual gearbox needed a rebuild. GM doesn't even make a half ton with a manual transmission anymore, which is sad.
You are a hero. I watch the video from beginning to end. I tip my hat to you for your mighty deeds. God willing, when I enter America, I will visit you because I respect you a lot. I just wait for the approval of the American delegation to enter me.
Yeah I learned the engine in a tire trick a couple of years ago....freaking works awesome....way better than scrounging around wood blocks or a pallet. and shit......
I have the same 06 Sierra 5.3 engine and let me tell you those clothe Seats are one of the most comfortable seats I’ve owned on a vehicle…I love my truck
My teenage son is looking for an early 2000's GM truck here in the mid-atlantic and yes it is hard to find one with Rockers intact! Most we find are losing rockers and missing wheel wells in the fenders. But we keep searching for a good one.
Your Multi-Function Installation tool is quite versatile indeed. The Headliner Gnome probably might want to watch his back, one never knows when Mr. Spotty might get annoyed and spring his trap. No more Gnome!!!!
The infamous EVAP can... FYI (as ex parts counter seller) those evap can there two of them, correct expensive one 63$ or the wrong one under 25$ but has same internal electrical pump that can be swapped into the old canister fix your problem along with the black foam thing. Thats what I do when my 2008 chevy gets that dam evap code, can't get gas in my tank when it fails.
One thing GM did well on these years of trucks was making it easy to change the headlight bulbs by pulling those two pins out.Of course they had to change it.
This is the content I was looking for! Both my trucks are mechanically and physically sound so there ain’t much to work on. I like seeing other people do maintenance on vehicles.
Its crazy when you do such an awesome job and it's still people out there hating. I told one person on my channel if you don't like it's easy don't watch..lol
i picked u a 2005 with a 5.3 ls really nice truck good clean body good paint nice interior engine ran with no engine lights just the trans was going bad only thing wrong with it everything else was mint i got free so i let my friend have it for free made his day . but i was going to pull the engine and rear end then part it out and scrap it . i don't deal with newer rigs to much right now i am building a 68 chevy 2 wheel drive and a 70 high boy
That's a fantastic work truck. If he/she were so inclined, the next owner could probably source a used matching front seat for relatively cheap. Might take a little digging around, but I bet there's one out there. That was an extremely common truck, and they didn't make those base models in too many color combinations.
I have one of these in Silver Birch, one of the best vehicles I've ever owned. Only thing I've had repeat problems with , is the blower motor resister, 3 now
Something else this truck has you don't see much and we don't see much here in Canada on these particular years, cab corners. A 4.3 Truck, definitely not the worst engine, we had one in a 2000 Silverado with 500,000+ Km, when our 30-foot Winnebago broke down it pulled it over 4-Mes in the middle of summer without a problem.
I love a basic work truck. I had a '93 same layout as this, put 50,000 miles a year on it, other than basic maintenance parts it only needed an AC compressor and a fuel pump (Go figure) by the time it got to 300,000 miles. I probably can't afford it when it goes up for sale but I'd love to have it.
These are great trucks. Rubber floor mats and window cranks. My kids know how to use them! I've got 250000 on my 2004 Chevy W/T. I'm not giving it up until it's pried from my cold dead hands. The GMC versions are actually upscale, they get a console instead of a fixed jump seat like the Chevys.
Yeah you weren't kidding. That truck was pretty cruddy inside. (especially when it involves a shovel) And yes I've bought a few that's been monkeyed with so they don't start. ( usually the starter relay) Even a few the cats got stolen off of.
Sweet!! More trucks! Looking forward to more of these. I have to catch up with the last build, work crazy. But.... now I have time due to fracturing my back in 2 spots.... stupid black ice. (Didn't see it getting out of truck, found it on the way down though)
you know I wish I could of worked for someone like you i would still be doing this kind of work . seems like everyone i ever worked for was all about the money and cut every corner that can be cut and i just got fed up with it . I was raised if your going to do something do it wright or don't touch it . your content is so refreshing to watch no mater what your working on
It's always a great feeling to score something that just needs a little TLC to make it right. My current truck was just that... 16 years old/18k miles. Badda-boom/bing/bang/(sand/spray formerly owned by eyesight-failing old man), people mistake it for a new truck now, and with a few upgrades along the way, even better. Very satisfying... and FWIW it has power windows too... the faster you crank the more power they have. Love it. Thanks as always, from a Scott in Japan.

I watched this because I have an 03 just like it and going to drive it till it drops, thought I might learn something, and not only learned some stuff I might actually need to know later but enjoyed your sterling comments, guess I will suscribe because I’m retired and enjoy watching stuff instead of sweating my nuts off in the un-air conditioned machine shop. keep em coming
When I was working as a mechanic, I😅 learned why mechanics aren’t usually gear heads. The last thing you want to do on is work on cars on weekends . I changed occupations and because a gearhead. 😎
Ahhh...the venerable GMT800 chassis trucks. Some of the best GM ever made.
Love the "FIX"! Lucky new owner! Well done Scott! Be well! Rich
I thought the shovel was one of your jokes until I saw the amount of dirt you shoveled out. Great job!!!
No complaints, just enjoyed the hard work to bring the truck back to life.🇨🇦
I believe I have that very same "frame rack on a stick" great video, I've been working my way through your older vids watching all the Chevy/gmc content. Lots of useful info.
You know why I love your videos, because you make everything looks so easy
Love these builds. I'm cheap and broke so this is the kind of stuff I drive. I always pick up at least a good tip or two. Thanks!
Oooohhhhh.. this is gonna be a good ole Scott special. Wow... we have a full length feature too. Stay safe and be well. Have a great weekend if your not too snowed in.
The scream while you backdown the ramps has become great entertainment!
Looks good you did a great job cleaning it up and getting it running good it appears that all these trucks need new power window regulators
Mount the tire on a pallet, strap the engine to the pallet, and you can ship the engine. I received one like this back around 2006.
@@fraidykat great way to get rid of used tires too
I have the same 06 Sierra 5.3 engine and let me tell you those clothe Seats are one of the most comfortable seats I’ve owned on a vehicle…I love my truck
Dielectric grease in the plug wires!
I've been doing this since the late 80's.
I worked on cars 30 yrs before having to retire i always used air ratchet to remove and replace plugs and never broke any and upset alot of people lol
It would not have upset me! 😂 I don’t understand what the big deal was!
My teenage son is looking for an early 2000's GM truck here in the mid-atlantic and yes it is hard to find one with Rockers intact! Most we find are losing rockers and missing wheel wells in the fenders. But we keep searching for a good one.
I love how this guy strives to piss off the haters! 😁
Everyone needs a hobby! 😂
Your Multi-Function Installation tool is quite versatile indeed. The Headliner Gnome probably might want to watch his back, one never knows when Mr. Spotty might get annoyed and spring his trap. No more Gnome!!!!
Hello Scott , GMC is always worth saving !
This one was, just a little dirt.
@vehcor I hope you have a great weekend!
Thanks, you too!
Hay Scott, not blowing smoke, however, your knowledge and understanding of GM engineering is impressive.
I found your site by accident, and glad I did. Very professional and look forward to seeing more videos.
That bumper installation tool is very versatile, I need to get one!
I ordered a 1999 Silverado that had crank windows. Had four wheel disc brakes. When I bought my 2006 GMC Sierra 1500 it had drum brakes on the rear.
Well damn...I guess I know what I'm doing for the next hour. Bring it on!
The vote was close but one long video won.
Great job. Amazing what a little TLC and maintenance will do. Love these smaller jobs too. Keep up the good work.
One thing GM did well on these years of trucks was making it easy to change the headlight bulbs by pulling those two pins out.Of course they had to change it.
ALWAYS a good market for a truck...smart flip every time....
This is the content I was looking for! Both my trucks are mechanically and physically sound so there ain’t much to work on.
I like seeing other people do maintenance on vehicles.
Its crazy when you do such an awesome job and it's still people out there hating. I told one person on my channel if you don't like it's easy don't watch..lol
i picked u a 2005 with a 5.3 ls really nice truck good clean body good paint nice interior engine ran with no engine lights just the trans was going bad only thing wrong with it everything else was mint i got free so i let my friend have it for free made his day . but i was going to pull the engine and rear end then part it out and scrap it . i don't deal with newer rigs to much right now i am building a 68 chevy 2 wheel drive and a 70 high boy
that was funny about the vent filter. there are people who really have strong opinions about those relocation kits.
That's a fantastic work truck. If he/she were so inclined, the next owner could probably source a used matching front seat for relatively cheap. Might take a little digging around, but I bet there's one out there. That was an extremely common truck, and they didn't make those base models in too many color combinations.
What an incredible transformation and as you say shame about the seat burns 👍🏻🏴
I love my work truck. I could do with a few less technology updates also. The only updates I need are no carburetor and no vinyl seats. LOL
Loved my 2007 classic . Wish I could find another clean one
Ouch! Hope you are back on your feet soon!
you know I wish I could of worked for someone like you i would still be doing this kind of work . seems like everyone i ever worked for was all about the money and cut every corner that can be cut and i just got fed up with it .
This is 1 of the best channels on youtube
I have always used dielectric grease. It keeps the boots from sticking to the plug.
Once again Scott, you turned a Sow's ear into a silk purse. Well maybe a nylon purse. Great work as always!
Just a suggestion. Good idea to fill the oil filter with oil before reinstalling. Good ol truck with a lot of life left.
Nice little video. These are the beginner jobs. All mechanical and elbow grease. Me and a buddy picked up a civic this way. A few used and new parts and a good cleaning. Still need to hit it with the frame rack on a stick, but that’s a job for springtime.
You just inspired me to do a tune up on my 99 t400. Misfire has been driving me nuts!
