I just wanted to let you know that I have watched your vids for a few months now and decided to be ALL IN 3 weeks ago. 3 weeks on a no added oil plant based diet as a Tyep 1 diabetic. I am super excited about the changes I have had already. Week 1 was tough as my body was basically detoxing and adjusting to high carbs so my blood sugar was quite high. After the first week I began to lower my insulin as my blood sugar levels dropped tremendously. I have decreased my insulin by over half so far and am not having to portion control very much. My husband and kids are not on board but they ARE eating some of the meals I make for myself. I will have an A1c check here in a week and am very anxious to see if it is lower yet! I will keep you updated! I would love to thank Crystal as well because she was really what got me interested in your videos! She is so funny and I love her personality! Thanks!!
Or, buy a plumbing pipe elbow for a few cents and place it over the released vent for a quick steam release. You can aim the steam away from you and your cupboards.
Derek, could please post a basic starter kit video on what you need in the kitchen to begin to cook your awesome meals you prepare. Thank you for all u do.
Whenever I choose to release the pressure from my instant pot I cover the valve with a folded hand towel. It protects you from the burst of steam :) Of course, if you prefer a "facial" you can proceed with caution ;)
I witnessed my dad nearly slice his finger off on a tin lid that was loose in the trash, so ever since then I only go around most of the lid with the can opener leaving some attached. Then you can open the top to drain the contents and push the still attached lid back inside the empty can. Hopefully this keeps yours and the garbage workers safe and all fingers still attached.
I'm going vegan to improve my health after stroke, my cholesterol level is high so cutting out animal products, love the video, going out to get that pressure cooker❤😃😏
Thank you so much Derek! I made this right away in my little old fashioned pressure cooker (had to dust it off) and loved it. I really appreciate your nutrition tips included with your recipes. You bring us the basic essentials in a highly palatable way.
I love getting ideas from vegetarian/ vegan meals for meat protein additions because your recipes are always so flavorful with a fun, wide variety of ingredients.
Yes! I recently subscribed after seeing your dressing and sauces, man you got it going on! Simple, healthy, interesting, delicious food!❤️ Thanks to both you and your girlfriend for sharing.
I absolutely love your style of cooking! The throw-it-all-in, no exact recipe approach with lots of spices is how I roll. I just got an IP and I too would love to see more IP vids!
You have inspired my boyfriend and I to transition to a plant based whole food diet! (coming from butcher box subscribers, this was quite the leap!) We are two weeks in and are feeling GREAT! THANKS DEREK! Love your channel, we have made so many of your recipes already! Can't wait for new videos!!
I am so glad that I discovered your videos! I am enjoying them and feeling so inspired to improve my eating habits. I've been vegetarian for 30 years - the last 5 or so years of that vegan. While it is great that we have so many more choices now than when I started, I've also become more lazy about cooking and now it's too easy to choose more processed vegan foods like canned soups, veggie burgers and such. Still healthy, but I really feel like I need to get back into more whole food. Thanks for sharing your knowledge, ideas and great sense of humor!
I love watching you! You're so pleasant to learn things from, a real natural and with no long drawn out chatter that doesn't mean anything, like some unprepared UA-camrs do. It's easy to see you've prepared. Excellence always gets noticed! And you've already helped me with feeling great and losing weight. You're definitely one of my favorites! Sending you a big THANK YOU!
You're so inspirational. You're so young, but so knowledgeable. I'm in my late 60's and new to the vegan WFPB way of eating. It's a hard road to travel when your spouse is too set in their ways to adapt/adopt to that type of lifestyle. I would so love to be able to eat the way you eat. You make adapting to this lifestyle look so easy. I've tried some of your meals (for myself, of course), and they've turned out really well. Keep motivating us. I guess we're never too old to start new habits. Just gotta figure out how to navigate around my stubborn spouse. It's disappointing that he wants to continue eating his way, even though he's aware of his health issues. Well, you can lead a horse to water, but can't make them drink! Thanks so much for your content.
@@cefarther3945 **I stated the area of my age because I'm so damn mad I spent too many of my years not eating WFPB. I ate what I was told and trusted it. I'm impressed that younger people are throwing that B.S. aside. But your point was made and taken.
Thank you so much for the content! I am just starting out on this journey and you're providing motivation and making it easier to transition. My family has a history of heart disease. This is something that hasn't been attempted. So here I go! I am finding it easy right now. My girls are also starting to show interest which is awesome! Your information truly helps. Again, thank you thank you!!
Derek Simnett, this is great, and I absolutely love your videos. I recommend you to others. Thank you! Wanted to mention one thing you may or may not be aware of, and that is you might consider buying tomato paste and any tomato products in glass, as they are known to leach the metal due to their acidity. There is a great organic one from Italy. Thank you again, you are informative and inspiring.
I like the touch of red sweet potatoes. When cooking lentils, try herbs de providence, adds a wonderful touch of flavor. Thanks for the wonderful videos. Our family has been enjoying the new lifestyle of eating healthy.
I didn't have tomato paste on hand so I used curry paste instead and it was SO good. Didn't need to add much additional spice since the curry paste already had a lot of spice in it. I really appreciate all your recipes! And would love more instant pot ideas. Your channel has really guided me on my vegan journey. Thank you so much for everything!
Great recipe perfect canvas for flavor. I modified it by blending 2 dates and 4 cloves of garlic with the veggie stock water combo and added lime juice, cinnamon, plum vinegar and smoked paprika. Came out great! Thank you!!
I made this in an 8 qt instant pot. It doesnt have a bean/chili button ): i cooked it on manual high pressure for 10 mins, and it was a little overdone but still delicious! Thanks for such a killer recipe
Thankyou! Have N instant pot in the cupboard for 12 months and lacked confidence to give it a go. Its put on the bench now and i am gonna make this recipe. Thankyou! Also love your real delivery on video and where most comedy leaves me cold I laughed my ass off through your video - well done 👏😀
Omg I could watch you all day! Definitely been considering getting an Instant Pot. Recently got back into vegan eating after many years away. So excited!
What a great colourful dish. The Instant Pot is a winner for sure and so easy. Derek, you are such a genuine and funny man and a great advertisement for plant based living.
Throw a dish towel over the vent and turn it. No burns (until you put your arm on it while eating) and it doesn't ruin your upper cabinets with the steam . Love the sciency food stuff! TY!
Wow, I’ve had an instant pot for a couple years now! It’s great. I want to try this out. Also, in a vegan Instant Pot cookbook I have, it said you can even double the normal amount of spices that you would use in order to be nice and tasty because of something that happens during the cooking. Also, I realized I NEED a cutting board as large as that one. Mission accepted! Noted. 😊
Don't even get me started. I have 3 Fissler pressure cookers. I use them once or twice everyday. Cook millet or rice for breakfast. Make one pot wonders, cook all my beans, beets, potatoes. Even chestnuts, seitan, ... You can even steam in them, using a special rmash on the bottom. Anyway, great video, you are funny. And love how Crystal laughs in the backround.
Oh man this is so good! I added some chopped onions in my lentils too, was super easy to make. Ate the cooked lentil mix on top of a giant bed of mixed greens with some added chopped veggies, ginger siracha sauerkraut, and some oil free fig balsamic and it's my new favorite lunch! Thanks so much for sharing!
Ya know what I will try this! I just got an instant pot from my husband for my birthday and it’s my favorite thing ever. Had made life soooooooo much easier.
Have you got a video debunking diferent fats? ie whats the difference between unsaturated, saturated monounsaturated... etc? think would be really useful!
Idea for a new series: “Food for vegan starters”: a series about vegan food alternatives which are not necessarily very healthy but help to migrate from traditional to vegan cooking: vegan cheeses, meat replacements, butter and egg alternatives, etc. Per item you could compare the nutritional value in comparison to the original and you can explain why you prefer true whole, plant based alternatives. If you use them, you can show how you can compensate for them with extra whole food. You can suggest the brands which taste well. Good luck!
Try and stay away from the processed frankenfoods being passed off as vegan. They really don't offer any nutitional value and they may still potentially be dangerous to your health in the long run.
Laura C Would vegan meat and dairy products be helpful to transition from a traditional diet to a whole food, plant base diet? Would these transition foods be a solution if you have non vegan guests for dinner? Or do these vegan copies contain so much less nutrition than their originals that they are actually dangerous? Maybe a question for #AMM.
I just discovered you a few weeks back as i am a virgin vegan lol ,and love your channel as it has been so helpful to me since changing my bad eating habits which was meat eggs dairy and oils to a healthy lifestyle of veganism/plant based but also gluten free to a certain extent but as much as possible ,as i struggle with Fibromyalgia and had cancer previously in 2015 and also high blood pressure and am overweight...anyways i salute you all the way from Ontario Canada hehe! Keep doing what your doing as its helping me and many others im sure,it has been a great encouragement to my journey. Thank you!

I'll fourth that! Love your recipes and this one was incredibly easy and super flavorful!
Can I use a crock pot? Or on top of stove. Instant pot too expensive. Thanks.

This is SO great! Good for you 👏👏👏 This comment is over a year old now. How are you doing?
That’s amazing! Congratulations on taking control of your health! 💜
Any updates to share?
Congrats!💙
I've been vegan for 5 years & still can't believe how much it improved my health while eating properly
omg that fast forward veg chopping was AWESOME
Put a towel over the pressure valve when you release it, no more burned hands and the moisture wont ruine your kitchen cupboards.
I'm putting it outdoor when I'm releasing 👍
Or use a long handled utensil
Or, buy a plumbing pipe elbow for a few cents and place it over the released vent for a quick steam release. You can aim the steam away from you and your cupboards.
Genius! 😀
We so need a Simnett Nutrition blooper reel!
Omg yes pleeeeeeeeze hahaha

Ingredients or equipment wise? And you are welcome :D
Ingredients, please
Man you and your girl seem to have a really fantastic cohesive relationship - that's goals right there :P
Crystal keeps him humble. We should all be so lucky to have such an influence! Peace, K
@M H What, being a supportive partner? Yes there are genuinely people not miserable 24-7 who enjoy their partners.
This tastes way better than it has a right to, given it’s simplicity. My new favorite. Amazing!
Whenever I choose to release the pressure from my instant pot I cover the valve with a folded hand towel. It protects you from the burst of steam :) Of course, if you prefer a "facial" you can proceed with caution ;)
Lol
The utensils that came with the instant pot have notches on the end of the handle to release the valve easily and safely.

Or buy a can opener that does not create sharp edges. Chef AJ promoted it because it prevents injury to 'nosy' cats and dogs!!!
No because I've seen animals get their faces stuck when the lid is attached.
I always put tin lid inside empty can then put in trash.
I'm going vegan to improve my health after stroke, my cholesterol level is high so cutting out animal products, love the video, going out to get that pressure cooker❤😃😏
This man food / cooking videos always on point!
Thank you! I wasn't sure how this one was going to turn out halfway through there. Haha.

Why is it always so therapeutic to watch the time lapse of Derek chopping the vegetables? Its seriously relaxing

Never fails, if someone is 60 or older, the comment has to state that, why I have no idea. Very irrelevant.
