Rockstar should add to the game a bounty on anyone seen shooting the buffalo. It would make the hunt more interesting i think, and if the player gets shot and killed by the deputies, he loses the pelt. Perhaps the pelts could only be sold in dodgy places like thieves landing or Van horn. Just an idea to make it more historically accurate. But then again maybe not, great vid bro, very interesting 🤠👍👍
Maybe also have it in the game where you have to judge the fence for the illegal pelts, just like say Ivory today which can fetch a small fortune on the black market; many dealers get busted in stings and some get robbed. That could be for illegal pelts and animal products, but there would also be laws to set quotas, seasons etc for animals that are legal to hunt. However if you put the round back by the ear with say a .45-70, Spencer .56-56 or .56-50 or a .50cal Sharps pretty sure the outcome would be different. Shooting a bison through the heart and lungs would shred the tissue of the organs.
Historically speaking sharps were uncommon and most buffalo hunters used the Remington rolling block chambered in 45/70, repeating rifles with a higher caliber or leftover rifles from the civil war, the reason for this is that sharps rifles were expensive and didn't come along until sometime in the 1870s which was around the time that bison in the southern states were rare and in northern states were getting increasingly harder to find

Contrary to the song “Home on the Range,” buffalo do not roam in the American West. Instead, they are indigenous to South Asia (water buffalo) and Africa (Cape buffalo), while [bison](www.britannica.com/story/whats-the-difference-between-buffalo-and-bison) are found in North America and parts of Europe.
I hunt them the most easiest way to hunt them like they did in Dances With Wolves you simply get on your horse run at them and shoot them with your arrows until they're dead it sounds barbaric but it's easy and fun that's the easy part actually locating where they are that's hard
It might be a cool idea if there was too many people hunting buffalo in a area the buffaloes might not spawn there for a few days to make it feel like you were actually thinning the population
Red dead is fairly unrealistic in general in terms of hunting, as you would typically aim at the heart of lungs for most animals, but it seems that in red dead, a head shot is always the most effective way to kill an animal. As a hunter in real life, (not experienced yet, I got my license last fall), I can say that a headshot would not be the desired method to kill an animal, especially if you want it taxidermied.
Had to pull it b/c algorithm thought I was slaughtering buffalo or something. Went back in and adjusted some things, finally was able to put it back out there.

I'm incredibly surprised it killed both of them in one shot, and preserved their 2 star pelt quality
i'm glad buffalo are in the game but it would be a nice feature to get low honor for hunting them. Now you mention it was illegal to hunt them during that time makes it even cooler
Oh this one didn't occur to me for so late on in the west.
What are some good books to get to learn about 1840-1900 in the west and the fur trade
I'll be doing a video on book recs shortly. Stay tuned.
Great vid
Contrary to the song “Home on the Range,” buffalo do not roam in the American West. Instead, they are indigenous to South Asia (water buffalo) and Africa (Cape buffalo), while [bison](www.britannica.com/story/whats-the-difference-between-buffalo-and-bison) are found in North America and parts of Europe.
I hunt them the most easiest way to hunt them like they did in Dances With Wolves you simply get on your horse run at them and shoot them with your arrows until they're dead it sounds barbaric but it's easy and fun that's the easy part actually locating where they are that's hard
im pretty sure u answered this but what platform do u play on??
Xbox.
It might be a cool idea if there was too many people hunting buffalo in a area the buffaloes might not spawn there for a few days to make it feel like you were actually thinning the population
I did not know that buffalo hunting was the bad back then
This was weird...and AWESOME 👍👍👍
Red dead is fairly unrealistic in general in terms of hunting, as you would typically aim at the heart of lungs for most animals, but it seems that in red dead, a head shot is always the most effective way to kill an animal. As a hunter in real life, (not experienced yet, I got my license last fall), I can say that a headshot would not be the desired method to kill an animal, especially if you want it taxidermied.
New vid???? Yes!!
If I had a time machine I'd defiantly go back when you could shoot buffalo from trains. Would a fucking blast.
I think that the game should have them wander the map and make it so you have to go find them. Rather than the 30 or whatever just sitting in one spot
People still hunt on private land for buffalo. I have a buffalo robe.
How come you re uploaded this?
Had to pull it b/c algorithm thought I was slaughtering buffalo or something. Went back in and adjusted some things, finally was able to put it back out there.
Man vs. History You ever gonna stream. Switch of subject but I do remember you say yes a lil while back.

You're pretty useful and your knowledge is good but sadly rockstar is a money hungry company that gave up on rd2 just to go comfort their money maker gta
I really hope you do more of these about other animals

Yess finally
When are you going to do a nother Q and A
I'll do one tomorrow if folks want more! You want me to open up another community forum for posting questions?
@@ManvsHistory ya that would be nice
I saw a white buffalo on my way to pick up a goat.
Red dead online is set on 188s right?
1898
Doesn’t the game take place in 1899 not 1898?
RDO is in 1898. Game is 1899.
how did you get so much money?
Grinding
I know this idea has nothing to do with history but can you make a video showing off your outfits in red dead online?
