  • Everyone is going to expect djent-d-djent-d-d-d-d-djent-d-djent out of this video, but I felt like going for more of a Killswitch Engage/ Classic Parkway Drive vibe with this.
    I personally purchased the RGD so I could comfortably tune down to Drop A and still retain note clarity and not have to use ridiculous string gauges. The A E S T H E T I C S of this guitar are fantastic. All of the colours and contours work together so well. The weight is light enough to be comfortable and heavy enough to feel like a quality instrument. Ever since Hipshot started making retrofit bridge replacements for many Ibanez guitars, I've toyed with the idea of having one fitted to this and, in the next year or so, I'll look at doing that.
    The Bare Knuckles are awesome as well. There isn't much to say about them that hasn't already been said. I had the choice of going ever Juggs or Aftermaths and, for this guitar, I chose the Juggs presuming I'd get anmega Br00tz djent tone, but I was wrong. They are a very warm set, still with lots of attack and clarity, but nowhere near the level of aggression as something such as an EMG 81 or BKP Aftermath. I'm currently in the process of recording an awesome band (A Titan, A Deity) using this very guitar. Once their EP is done, I may shift the Juggernauts and move on to Aftermaths as after playing the new RGAIX6U (A video is coming soon, don't worry), I feel the Aftermaths suit me and my style better. Failing that, maybe the Dimarzio Titan set would slay in this guitar. Who knows?
    Anyway, on to the boring stuff.

    I have one of these. I had a similar idea, I initially stuck Dimarzio Titans in there but I think they actually sounded worse than the Fusion Edge pickups that came stock. So I returned them, waited a bit, then went with the Seymour Duncan Alpha Omega pickups, and now I'm happy.

      Crummock iPhail The Duncans must sound huge in this guitar. Im really happy with the Juggernauts, even happier now I'm using them in Drop C.
      The Titans were made for guitars with totally different designs and specs to this guitar, so it doesn't surprise me that you may not have liked them. I had them in a basswood RG and they sounded okay. Having the JBM20 and JBM27 really opened up my eyes to the Titans, however.
      Check out the review I just did of my newest guitar: Ibanez Premium RG7PCMLTD. That guitar is great, but I can hear Juggernauts calling me from Cornwall screaming "Try me, try me!"

    Sounds amazing man! What strings are you using on this guitar in drop a?

    • @alexlucasmusic
      @alexlucasmusic  7 років тому +1

      seethrusilence Thanks for the kind words! Due to the guitar being an inch longer than most other Ibanez guitars, I can afford to either go a little lighter on my gauges, or use the same gauges but attain more tension in the strings. It's a lot easier to tune and intonate as a result.
      Anyway, I'm using D'Addario 12-60, but I take out the 60 and replace it with a Dunlop 64. I also replace the plain 20 for a wound 20.
      Anyways, I may do another video on this guitar once I replace the Juggernauts with something a bit tighter and with more prominent highs, as opposed to the low-mid focus of the Juggernauts.

    Are you tuned to AGCFAD? The stock strings are 10-46 tuned to D standard and the lowest string seems to be flopping, although less since it's a longer scale.

      Benji P.C. Hey, man. I'm using 12-64 strings with a wound .20 tuned to Drop A (AEADF#B). The longer scale definitely helps with tension and definition, I would probably have to go up to a .70 to get the tension I like on a 25.5".

      Hey Alex, I have an older Ibanez guitar with 25,5'' scale tuned to drop A with 0.13 - 0.56 and holds tuning pretty nicely. Though I want a little more tension on A string with this same gauge, do you think an extra inch on scale length would make a difference? If yes, I'm gonna buy the shit out of this guitar. Sorry for bothering you with such a silly question, but I have bad experience with 26,5'' guitar intonating much worse with 0.60 gauge on the same tuning. And I don't want a baritone with 28'', thats just too long.
      By the way, great playing! Seems like we like the same style of riffs, Killswitch Engage is definetly one of my influences (along with Trivium).

      Christián Ďuriš Hey, Christian. Thanks for getting in touch. A longer scale will always be easier to intonate than a shorter, but you sometimes need to play with the action and neck to get it spot on. Regarding string gauges, a .60 is too thin for my tastes to be tuned to anything lower than C or maybe B. However, a lot of 26.5" 7 strings come tuned to B from the factory with the .59 and Ibanez even set up to A on the RGD 7 strings.
      My recommendation is to move up to either 26.5" or 27" on the same string gauges. Alternatively, just switch that .60 out for a .64.
      Also, I love Killswitch. Reject Yourself was the primary influence for this track. Trivium are probably my second favourite band and easily the band I've most often seen live.

      So I think I'm gonna get this beauty in surreal black color (still not sure, every color it comes with is beautiful). Thanks for answering and have a nice day!

    Hello there. Could you please tell me what the alignment is like for the new pickups? Do the pole pieces line up with the string spacing? Thanks.

    What was your tone patch on this? You have the sickest tone I’ve seen on one of these demos.

      I was using a Axe FX 2 with Ownhammer Mesa 4x12 impulses on this one. Amp model would be the EVH 5150. I’d love to try this guitar with some of the Neural DSP stuff 🤘

      As soon as you see a burl top and Bare Knuckle pickups, you expect Drop E and 80% open notes.

      That's right, and I hope it doesn't put anyone off. It's a quality instrument, even before the £250 pickup upgrade.

      alexlucasmusic how is the weight?

    • @alexlucasmusic
      @alexlucasmusic  6 років тому +1

      Jackon J I don’t know any empirical data on that, but I can go on feel. It’s a pretty light to medium weight, nothing that would cause discomfort or back ache after long rehearsal sessions; unlike an all mahogany beast like a Les Paul or Schecter ATX series
