2 things impress me most about these, being Ibanez guitars designed for Metal.
1) Passive pickups
2) Not black
Yeah some of the best metal pickups are passive. My schecter has emgs but my Gibson has high output passives in it
+Zed Chuva So far the best sounding pickups i've ever heard for articulate and djenty metal riffs have been dimarzio crunch lab. Blows away every single active pickup i have ever heard. active pickups are usually a bit muddy (which also sounds good on certain music styles).
+Zed Chuva 3) fixed bridge
+SuomiPerkele Really? that comes as a surprise to me. Maybe it had more to do with the guitar then.. dont know.
+SuomiPerkele thanks for info, i'm gonne stay with my passive pick ups
peace
Green guitars with maple fretboards are so gorgeous.
+Finn V. Arthur I couldn't tell why I liked the 7 string so much but that's exactly it.
I'm blown away by the price range. The finish gives it this "I cost a lot of fucking money" look.
'People say a lot of things!'
-Rob Chapman, 2016
'People say a lot of things to help them sell stuff to people!'
FTFY
+Pradeep Patel (btw buy the new dorje album)
***** I can WRITE words in all CAPS too
***** Lol you aren't going to BAIT me into an argument on youtube. What A waste OF time. You go savor your victory, big boy. ;)
+James Shephard "...I ain't got no time for skinny ass bitches."
-Rob Chapman 2016
captain Lee's metal cred just went up by about 92% because of the hood
The Bevels...what have you started Jeff Kiesel?
+Austin Washington I think they did a litttttle too much on these, but at least they still look pretty fucking awesome...
unless you don't like bevels...which is totally okay
+1097jad Nah I love bevels, they are comfy and can add cool aesthetic (at least in my opinion)
Austin Washington Definitely, very few guitars look bad with it, and i'm actually glad ibanez followed it, although kiesel does it better imo
+1097jad Oh yeah Kiesel definitely does a better job
Austin Washington But that's to be expected from Kiesel/Carvin stuff
I may be a slight fanboy towards them...they're just too gorgeous
when in doubt sustain!
+dan mcamis we love jared
+dan mcamis Sounds more like a lesson Skipper
Lol at the Captain trying hard to remember non-pentatonic notes to hit, good job Captain!
You guys are very good to your competitors. Respect.
+Royston Dorsa There are no competitors dude, we are all brothers ;-)
+Rob Chapman Love your attitude.
+Rob Chapman well go ask ibanez what they have to say ;)
+That smelly guy on the train most likely 'who?'
+Rob Chapman Hi Rob. Was wondering about the body and neck tap you were teaching us. Do you have to mute the strings with your hand when you tap? And do you have to tap both together so that you can hear both pitches to see what the interval sounds like? Any specific intervals that marks the build as higher quality, or is it just as long as it sounds fairly harmonious? (not a tritone or minor second like you said)
I'm in love with that 6 string, what a beautiful piece of music generator.
been binge watching Rob Chapman and The Captain all day today. You guys helped me through some tough times in my life with your videos. glad I could meet you when you came to Atlanta!
I absolutely love the colours on those guitars!
Some heavy chugging from captain, impressive.
+CarnivorousRoach I like your avatar, sir.
Ibanez has the best bolt on neck pockets. Fits the hand like a glove.
nicethugbert I know, right?! I was about to buy a charvel san dimas, then I noticed the square shape at the hand of the neck and I thought "why the hell would I want to go back to that?"
rob your 7 string playing is coming along nicely compared to previous demo's, nice work!
Just got a classic vibe of of the andertons website. Great care taken in the packaging. Great service. Thanks.
Loved the tip at around 10:10 about the harmonic tap check ! Thank you for sharing !
He is full of shit
well that's kinda mean and not really constructive, but whatever :)
+Khovann he is trying to sell you his guitars. It's all snake oil buddy.
+TheCollisionofworlds and if he tells you some stupid tip that doesn't tell you anything, you will likely apply it to his guitars
These two at the about 5 min mark is the whole reason why I keep coming back to these guys they totally comes across that these guys are genuinely having fun with it not to mention they both can play and they know their stuff but you just know they would love to do nothing else I mean who wouldn't lol cheers from the U.S.! 😃
Incredibly talented! Very time I watch you guys I always get in the mood to play my guitar then shortly afterwards get pissed cuz I’m not playing as good as you guys lol keep up the great work !!
oh man i had my eyes on these babes, glad you're doing this review!
Love the way the knob is a good distance from the strings, always gets in my way in other ibanezs
Ibanez hit it out of the park again by giving us beautiful looking instruments for a budget. Will have to try one of these out one day soon.
You guys are getting better with 7 string playing. These are beautiful guitars.
Sounding good, Lee!!!
best video in a while rob
I need one of these, jeez so sweet that six-stringer looks
This was one of the best video intro's ever! fuck It sounded good!
Purchased the RGDIX6 (Rosewood top) last month....brilliant guitar....brilliant resonance...purchased the RGIF7 few months back as well...the fanned fret 7 string....Ibanez has been producing some killer guitars recently.....
holy shit that jam at the beginning had me pumped as hell lol
I keep seeing the same blue one at my local Sam Ash, absolutely beautiful guitars.
Thank god it feels good to hear chugs on this channel again. #tbt
It should also be said that these come strung a whole tone below standard (ie D to D for the 6 string, D to A for the 7) but the longer scale length means that the string tension is the same as a 25.5 inch scale strung to standard tuning. So if you're tuning these to standard the strings will feel like 0.010s tension-wise.
MY first guitar was a used, emerald green RG70. I enjoyed it (as little as I played, and never really learned), and thought it was beautiful, but these are just gorgeous with that naked wood.
That last playout where Lee was fretting notes while Rob was playing... adds new meaning to the phrase "You guys sound great together"
very beautiful guitar with loud and clear sound))
The warmth of the neck really hits you.
I've been looking forward to this! Need to get me the Surreal Blue Burst RGD7
Same, it's the first 7-string I've seen in a while that I've really liked.
Those guitars sound fantastic. Very tempting at that price.
And I'm over here knocking on my guitars when my mum comes in and she looks at me like I just gone mad
Love the maple board. My favorite Ibanez guitars always have maple a maple fret board. Not a HUGE fan of the contrast of natural / finished but I think the guitars are going in the right direction. Like Zed said: they're not black! So that's a start. High Output Passive pups is also a huge plus. Great video guys.
Man i love the look of Ibanez guitars.
Well i learned something new about a guitars sound. Didn't knew about the resonating sound canceling out. Will watch out for this when i buy my next guitar.... which is next week
Those guitars look amazing!
wow..very nice designs..well done Ibanez!
FUCK THOSE ARE SOME GOOD LOOKING GUITARS
Yes clean tone!
Please review the Guthrie Govan signature charvel!!
Thanks for this Roberto McChappers. Sating my Shredifier hunger pangs.
Love the colour of that 7 string would look even better on some of the chapman guitars. Also really like the bevelling makes that sweet top pop even more.
The late great Gary Moore said that playing an electric unplugged was a great indicator of how well the guitar would sound by how well it resonates and sustains
I'd guess that layered ash body is a clever marketing spin on cutting production cost by allowing them to CNC the bevels on either side before gluing the two halves together.
Had a chance to play these and besides some of the quality and feel of the premium stuff, I'd say these are the best guitars Ibanez makes.
Will be in your store on Monday 15th after an audition to try out this and the RGAIX7FM. 100% buying one probably on the 21st Feb. Amazing value guitars which I personally think wrecks the Premium series guitars.
The volume thing Lee is talking about is due to the type of volume pot that is used. I always switch my Ibanez volume pots for the other style pot. One is linear and one is not... Or at least i think..sweet review guys!!
Gonna buy them both!
these are the best looking ibanezs I've seen
ok i was rly diggin the sound of the captains guitar in the intro
I'm probably getting one of the 7-Strings soon. The "Surreal Blue Burst" (great name btw) and the Maple-Fretboard just look sick. And it got all the specs I need.
Would the harmonious tapping pitch balance test work on a neck thru guitar like my Jackson SL1? These ibanezes are bolt on guitars, with separate necks and bodies.
Awesome looking guitars.
The tapping on the body and neck is a big Paul Reed Smith thing. If you watch a PRS video and Paul will occasionally pick up a guitar and do exactly what Rob did. And he always listens for the notes and if it resonates. But Lee's philosophy is just as valid. Plug the damn thing in with all your effects, and do you you like the tone or not. Easy.
+Charlie Foxtrot The 3rd I also once heard Steve Vai talking about the body/neck note thing. Apparently on his main guitar the note from the body and the note from the neck are the same
Jonathan Nelson Yes. And when they are the same, you get that awesome, ridiculously long sustain and it just sounds more musical than a guitar where the notes are fighting each other. But, there are some who desire that cancellation. Jazz players want NO sustain and they want their guitar to stop ringing the instant they stop playing. So, it is really a matter of what you're playing that determines what is good and what is not. That is why guitar choice is such a personnel thing. There is not one hard and fast rule when it comes to what works for you. Me? let it ring baby!
I'd love to get my hands on one of the 7 string versions, particularly the exact one demoed in this video! Wondering if this exact model with the same specs will be available in the US?
being longer scale , en tuned from d to d, how does this guitar function in standard tuning? will the strings be to tight or.. what HELP ME CHAPPERS
The captain is rocking the anxty djent look hard!
Any plans to do a video on Gordon Smith Guitars and their new range? UK built, handcrafted, etc, etc.
still not first lol. nice vid :) i love the tops on these fellas. also enjoying the captins new Djent look. ill have to try it if i review and extended range guitars :)
That feel when the guitar you're playing matches your SikTh hoodie.
3:32 captains face is like: wtf im doing.
Off the beat path question. I've viewed most of your videos including reviews of amps and tutorials on playing modes!! Love the videos!! I'm need an amp that would be good for smaller venues that runs a warm clean sound with good overdrive. Also able to keep up with a drummer... but he's a tasty drummer and not an out of control curchunker. :) Any recommendations?
The volume knob swell issue was probably due to the amount of compression that distortion adds.
+Hawx No, the on/off-function is a common problem with low quality pots from the far-east.
+Erik Nyberg Yeah, happens on my Schecter, doesn't really "roll off" after a certain point, just turns off.
+flagmuffin1221 I know it's an issue on some guitars but it wasn't like that on the clean sound which would lead me to believe that the compression from pedals made it that way.
+Hawx yknow its always got on my nerves how my guitars all seem to do that, and as said in the video and by hawx here, this is caused by the pedals imo aswell - because on clean it acts as it should. i think its caused by the pedals, and depending on how theyre tweaked in combination with the amp possibly as well. justmy two cents
There are two types of pots, linear and audio taper. Linear is where you get the volume swells where audio tape has nothing for about 80% of the pot and then full on at the end.
Great vid as usual, Lee WTF you had such a great tone at 20:00 !!! so brutal, was that the Ibanez or the Victory amp ?
Bought the 6 string and its my favorite.
That beginning gave me an eargasm
Bea needs to be in every metal gear demo!!!!!! :)
What is the track which played in intro in this video? Banjo and electric guitar riff sounds awesome! I want to hear full version)
At 13:00 the thing with the volume pot I think it is a linear pot rather than a logarithmic one. The linear ads resistance faster and yes it can behave like a on-off thing with high gain, which may be what most metal players want.
I own an Ibanez RT650, wish they'd bring that series back.
What riff was Lee playing at 11:44? I feel like I have heard it before but can't place a finger on it.
For a while I didn't really like Ibanez, but boy oh boy. Those guitars sound nice
Lee, are Anderton's getting any of the Ibanez RGDIX6LMPB? these were recently announced at the end of August.
I wish that they'd start doing the nice tops and stuff like this on their Prestige guitars...
Picked up the rgdix7mpb, one of my favorite guitars I own now, was $1700 Canadian after taxes still worth it to me
I'm aware these guitars come down-tuned, but can you tune them up to standard E tuning if you wanted? (Kind of a noob when it comes to guitar maintainance)
Hey man! What would the odds be of Chapman guitars introducing a Rhoads style V? Looking to pick up a Jackson in the future and would love to see a Chapman in my studio
Good god those are gorgeous....
These are in my opinion the most badass guitars on the market. I still love Pauls but these are stunning. Fuck I need one of these!
I’ve never been an Ibanez fan, but goddamn I want one of these.
Damn that seven string looks so nice.
Silverback sounded amazing as always, but the Captain's tone just wasn't working with these guitars. I know you like the V40 Captain, but you should have a good high gain pedal on the Pedal Cock to use during these vids. Maybe something from Wampler like a SLOstortion to match some of the tones Rob gets.
Lee is so out of his comfort zone while soloing to this :D
what were you playing at 17:15 i've heard reabea play it in other videos is it a song i can find?
I played the six string and it was absolutely amazing and I decided to buy the seven string but after seeing this video it sounds like there was some buzz on the seventh string and it didn't sound as tight and crisp. Does anyone have the seven string model and if so please tell me how it sounds.
Bea is such a beast. Picks it up, instariff.
Would love to hear your opinions on the new RGAIX6FM :)
+iibrett Bless you! ;)
Wasn't aware that I sneezed ;)
+iibrett I hope this gets it's own video review
+iibrett Today I was in Cologne, because at the Music Store they had Ibanez Wide Variety Tour with the new stuff for 2016. I played on the RGDIX7MPB aswell as the RGAIX7FM and both were great and looked stunning. But the "Birdseye Maple Fretboard" on the RGD really sold the guitar for me. Looks incredible. Didn't buy it yet but I most certainly will next month.
Ah nice, what did you think of the rgaix, feel/sound etc
I always tune the middle string a major third from the rest to give it a piano/organ type tuning, other wise it is just a six string with a an extra string. My common tuning is D, low D , G, C, E, A, D and sometimes ,A - E - A - d - g - b - e'
Holy fretboard Chapman.... did you just suggest a clean tone for comparison.... before the Captain even thought of it. This must be the second Tuesday this week :-)
I haven't checked yet, and also for the sake of people who want to know, does Andertons ship to the US?
Just a little info for you guys : Droptuned 7string a step down would make the Low B to a G, A would be standard ;) So you played in drop G there, beastly! :)
Jesus that impro sounds so awesome...make a song out of that
If ibanez has one thing that always works with them... that´s the look.
incredible looking guitars and for that price thats really really unique.
