    Hey guys, thanks for watching! You can find all the guitars in the description. There seems to be a problem with quality, I’m assuming it’s on UA-cam’s end as the original upload was in 1080p. Hopefully it fixes itself soon!

      hi, Keyan, thanks for this really interesting video. What do you think about the Chapman guitar line? They have very nice looking Rob Scallon 6 + 8 string signatures (maybe not for metal?) but also the rest of their guitars lines & the Rabea Masaad signatures look amazing. [el'sda2].

    One thing I like about you reviewing guitars is that you care a lot about aesthetics, often (not always) people reviewing guitar on yt only care about specs and stuff. I think it's an important thing (at least for me) that I like the visual of the guitar so that every time I see it I just want to play it !

    I've had the RGA42FM - pickup changes are STUPIDLY easy on it with the wiring to the switch, it's actually a dream. And the way the guitar feels and plays, it easily competes into the midrange budget, kicking well above its price. An absolute steal of a guitar.

      Mine is RGA42EX. No regret. Usually play in drop A to G with .62 on low E. Just need some lil setup. Probably wanna switch to a locking tuner.

    • @maf579

      Seconded. The RGA42FM is actually my first guitar, and it’s been great. There were one or things that need upgrading (the stock nut isn’t great, and one of the frets needed filing) but everything else was immaculate, especially the fret ends. And it is possibly the most comfortable guitar you’ll ever play. It’s so light and the contours are niiiiiiiiiiiice

    I know you're not a big Schecter fan, and I'm in a similar boat - in particular, I cannot stand their gloss finishes, they're of poor quality and make the neck very sticky when applied to the neck. However, one of the best guitars I've played for the money is the Schecter C1 SLS Elite. I have 14 guitars, and besides my kiesel, it is the only one I have that's still stock. Compound ebony fretboard, ash body with 11 piece thru-neck, fishman pickups, hipshot bridge and locking tuners, an Ernie Ball compensated nut, and most importantly, a satin finish. For around 1200 USD, it's a steal!

    the schecter demon 7 is the perfect low-midrange 7 string - its 26.5” and can handle any strings you throw at it, after a decent set up that guitar plays better than any other 7 ive played. throw on some horizon prog tension ultra heavy 7’s and it’ll be in drop F# absolutely perfectly! great video man!

    I found a B-Stock KM7 III on reverb for 400 off and I have never been happier with an impulse purchase before in my entire life. The Keith Merrow 7 feels so incredibly good to play and the sound is great.
    For shits and giggles I put 70-13s on it to be in Drop F# and even though the low string is a bit thick, it still plays amazingly. I also have a Schecter Studio 4 bass and it plays also like a dream.
    While the finishes might be everyone’s cup of tea, Schecter instruments are incredible in every price range. Would highly recommend.

    Great video as always. I recently swapped my 8-string Ibanez Prestige for the 7-string Jackson Misha model with the Evertune, so happy I did. The difference in build quality between the two is wild given the similar pricing on them both.

    • @MemoROFL
      @MemoROFL 2 роки тому

      @@ShowboatJenkins Enjoying the 26.5 scale on the Jackson setup, haven't had to make any adjustments really. The Evertune makes it easier to run lighter string gauges on while keeping the guitar in GDGCFAD and the action low vs. how I had to have the Ibanez set up. The stock pickups on the Jackson also blow the dimarzios the Ibanez comes with out of the water.

I got the Charcoal, which is more of a burl painted top, and it is just so perfect looking. Everything is somehow super modern looking and classy. And for $750? Its a massive steal. Def should have been on this list. Haven't played the Misha Jackson guitars, but I think it could give it a run for its money.

    Just a heads-up for people who might be buying the cheaper ibanezes, particularly the RGMS7 / RGMS8 but I'd imagine it's the same for all the flat bridges, the gotoh stainless steel saddles fit, you'll have to measure to see which you need but they make a world of difference and it's way cheaper than upgrading the bridge (I'm not sure there is a direct replacement for the mono rail bridge either as the hipshot one has a different screw pattern)
    Also would definitely recommend instrumental pickups for these guitars as well!!

    I definitely would have suggested the Schecter Banshee Mach-7 Evertune over the KM-7 MK III. For $100 less than the KM-7 you get an Evertune, Lundgren M7 pickups, the same sort of ultra thin C neck, a nicely shaped reversed in-line tuners headstock, an Ernie Ball compensated nut, stainless steel frets, satin finish, the same truss rod adjustment location, locking tuners, etc. Only potential negative would be if you find the Roman numeral inlays to be a bit cheesy

      I've got a more mid-range hardtail 7 string atm, a Cort KX507. It has the Fishman Fluence Moderns which are great, and unlike many of the bigger brands (ESP/LTD and Ibanez) it actually has the coil split option as well the the active/passive voice change. But there will be a point when I want to upgrade to a higher end hardtail 7 string...after a couple years of improving my playing first maybe! I love how thin the neck is on my Schecter Reaper-6, and the resonance from the swamp ash body. It was my first ever decent guitar and is still my favourite. So thinking that I'll love the KM-7 III Artist, seems as if it would combine the feel I like of the Reaper-6 with the versatility of the Fishman pickups. And from what I've read, the Keith Merrow Fishmans have a coil split as the 3rd voice - apparently better than just the normal coil split of a regular Fluence Modern, by being actually voiced for a more authentic single coil sound. Just such a big jump up in price so will have to be sure that it'll be worth it for me when I'm ready to spend that kinda money.
      The Banshee Mach-7 looks really interesting too. Any demos I've heard with Lundgren pickups sound great, in particular the Black Heavens (which I'd never heard of before) in the Solo Custom II model. I'm not such a fan of the LP look but the Solo Custom II seem to sound massive. No idea how I'd get on with an Evertune though. Can you actually change your tuning easily or it is a big hassle like a Floyd Rose? That's why I'm sending back the first 7 string I bought, a Jackson Chris Broderick signature as I just can't get on with the Floyd. Maybe a more traditional tremolo like the Gotoh might feel better so I also like like look of the Ibanez Prestige AZ24047 if I still want to have a 7 with a trem, but again the price is in a different range compared to what I've spend on single guitars so far.

    Excuse me the schecter C7-Pro would like to speak with you regarding your mid-range 7 string selection
    - 3 way switch with a coil split push-pull volume knob
    - Mahogany body
    - Wenge fretboard
    - 26.5" scale length; 24 jumbo frets
    - Reverse headstock
    - Hipshot bridge
    - Graph Tech XL Black Tusq nut
    - Ultra-thin "C" neck shape
    At $200 cheaper than the juggernaut or iron label Ibanez, it's a hell of a guitar, and I couldn't be happier tbh.

    I purchased the Ibanez Standard RGA42FM some weeks back, and it may very well be one of the best guitars i've bought.
    Have had the Ibanez RG421 mol for many years, but the the RGA42FM is a little something something haha
    The RGA421FM is in drop A and the RG421 in drop B... however, the pickups suck. My style varies from the typical modern metal to old school, like Slipknot, Suicide Silence, Architects, Bleed From Within and etc...
    Seriously wanting the jackson soloist sla6 dx baritone so i can play below drop A
    Any good suggestions to new pickups i can install that are either passive or active that are cheap, but good?
    Also, what is your opinion on the jackson soloist sla6 dx baritone? Seems like a solid budget guitar?

    schecter km7 mkiii is a beast, the best sounding and feeling guitar I ever played. I got an used ibanez prestige rgd2127z recently, great guitar but in terms of feeling and sounding I still prefer km3. The neck on km3 feels even thinner than the Ibanez (probably because it's a C sharp neck?) and the feeling of vibration of the string is unmatched. The only thing to be notice is that the km3 is a very bright sounding guitar (even acoustivally you'll notice the difference with other guitar), when I was trying to play some lead on the unwounded string in bridge position there are a lot of sharp and harsh sound going on.

    Did you ever have any issues with the Mark Holcomb 7 string PRS? I recently got one and had it set up in drop G# and the fret buzz on the low string is horrendous, took it back for resetup twice and couldn't get rid of it with any amount of string height, neck relief, fret leveling. Raising the string high makes it gross to play and intonates the string sharp even with the saddle practically flush with the bridge. I'm having to try and claim warranty with prs. So disappointing for my first 7 string and I found some posts on the prs forum with people having the exact same issue. every other string is great but I might as well have bought a 6 string at this point

    Awesome video! Thank you! It looks like you’ve run into the same issues that I’ve had in my hunt for an affordable metal guitar - the short scale length. I have a 28” baritone guitar, and it’s tough to get the low string to intonate all the way up the neck when tuned below G. No way I’m buying a 7 or 8 string with a 27” (or shorter) scale length. Would love to have a 29” - 30”, at least on the low side, but I cannot find one other than ordering a custom guitar.

    So I have versions of the first 2 budget six-strings. My Ibanez is the RGAR42MFMT and my ESP is the LDT EC-256. The RGA has a reverse headstock, maple fretboard, and locking FR-licensed bridge. The Eclipse is not as similar to the M-201 HT, but it does have the same bridge pickup. Which sounds SICK. I bought it intending to swap them out, but now I'm not going to; they sound great. The Ibanez Quantum pickups, though, sound awful and I've swapped them out for a DiMarzio Joe Duplantier set & a 3-way switch. I've also had lots of QC issues with the Ibanez: stripped hardware holes in the neck, fret ends so sharp they cut me, and a crack in the neck. I bought both around the same time, late 2019/early 2020, both made in Indonesia. But the LTD was flawless with new strings & a setup, where the Ibanez is poor quality overall. YMMV. I also have an even cheaper version of the Jackson JS32-7, a JS22-7, gloss black w/soapbars. I like it quite a bit.

    I like Jackson USA Soloist a lot for metal. Love the neck on Jackson USA guitars. ESP custom shop would be my other choice. For 7 string guitars, I really like my EBMM Majesty BFR 7 string as it has cool options like piezo and many tone choices. Plus easy neck to play. Chris Broderick Jackson USA and Misha Jackson USA are superb and ESP Custom shop guitars the best.

    6 months ago I bought my first 7 string. I really wanted to buy the PRS mark holcomb but shit happened and my budget was really tight so I ended up getting the Cort KX507 Multi Scale 7 string in Star Dust Green finish. At under 800$ It is the cheapest 7 string with Fishman Fluence Modern that i could find. So i felt like it was a no brainer. The sound is good, The neck is also thin and smooooth, it looks mean, and holds the tuning surprisingly well (it's got locking tuners). The build quality however isn't as great as the Jackson and PRS guitars in that price range, but it's not something that affects the tone or the playability tbh. It's minor things like you'll see markings on the edge of the fret, and the nut. Actually i had to sand the nut to fit the 62 gauge 7th string properly. There are some very tiny holes on the body but I'm guessing that is just how the finish is. I would still recommend checking it out for people on tight budget.

    I feel like this video was not made in 2022 and what I mean by that is that there are plenty of multiscale 6-7-8 strings now instead of a baritone scale length, which would suit more people. Would be interesting to see an update version of this vid with some Legator/Ormsby editions. For some reason most people are sleeping on the Ibanez RGD71 which is a multiscale with Fishmans for a good price.

    Hey man, nice video! I like that you mentioned that 26.5 should be a minimum for 7 strings and i really want to know what do you think about this scale length with extra low tunings (for example octave E). Thanks if you answer to this, have a great day!

    • @Diego-pl1il
      @Diego-pl1il 2 роки тому +2

      I’m not Keyan, but as a professional live guitar tech I think I have a little bit of experience. Using a 26.5” scale length for drop E for example, you can get away with you’d just need a fairly thick set of strings (personally .080 for the low E would be a minimum for me at that scale length).
      Ideally you’d want to shoot for 27” or longer for stuff underneath drop F#, but it’s a lot of preference so take it with a grain of salt.

    • @materedai4158
      @materedai4158 2 роки тому

      @@Diego-pl1il i use 26.5 for A standard with .70 but i think that's the limit of that guitar, maybe better pickups would solve the "problem". 2 weeks ago i tried a mid price 8 string Schecter with 26.5, it was in standard 8 string tuning and it was amazing to me but i don't know if a cheaper one with 27" scale or that Schecter would be a better option (or the Schecter with the same length but with 7 strings). Btw thank you for your answer!
