That’s awesome you found them! I have been listening to them since 1999 when I was 13. You should listen to their album “parade of chaos.” Such a good album.
It'll all be very confusing at first.. there's been SOO many member changes. That I can't even keep up with. But, all of their albums(and there are many) are fucking amazing.

Dan, 20+ years later is still somehow able to throughly produce his signature vocals. Incredible. Really grateful to have had Zao being injected into my ears all these years.
Like many here, I’ve been a fan since the 90s. Zao has been and still is my favourite band. To hear this is just awesome. I remember a pivotal time in my life where my friend and I went to the store to buy music. I chose Zao and he chose The Supertones. I’ve always been grateful for the decision I made that day.
Zao has been one of my most favorite bands for a very long time. I feel like they are in their prime right now. This is unbelievably good. Hearing the Liberate era stuff is so chilling too.
My comments mirror most here. Been listening since ‘98. Got in real deep in the 00s. I’m so happy to see Zao is still crushing and sounding this good. Love and respect.
Zao, from the bottom of my heart, I thank you so much for putting out hardcore of the highest quality for as long as you have. You guys simply do not age
I discovered ZAO in ’98 with their album Where Blood and Fire Bring Rest. It was life-changing. They are probably the only band from my youth that I still revisit 26 years later at 37 years old.
I came in with Funeral of God but Blood and Fire, Liberate, and Funeral are 3 of my all time favorites. I keep coming back too. They spoke to me like other bands didn't. And they still do.
40yo here too. Still remember standing in front of my best friends and bandmates house as he handed me a cd while smoking a cigarette. Was ‘Liberate’ and as a huge fan of the movie Event Horizon I was stoked. We put it on the stereo of his Ford Festiva and listened on the street… and my life changed. This video is giving me the exact feelings. And 20+ year old flashbacks. All the shows. All the sounds. All the memories. Incredible!
@@polasboekEven from the interviews that Wikipedia cites for them supposedly not being Christian anymore, I don't think any of them actually abandoned their faith. They were taken out of context. However, they are not a Christian band as in evangelistic.
I dont know if you guys read these comments. I was a dead member of the body for many years. I turned to repentance as those of the living of his body. Im preparing to enter the seminary And the words " come out of your stare, touch the ground with your prayers" have been very present over the years . Brett Detar/Jesse Smith era of Zao was the best. (1997-2001ish) Some of the best music ever, and I feel bad for kids that weren't alive to experience it live. There has never been anything like it, and people don't realize how influential and transformative that stuff was.
I had a few friends heading to a Zao show in 2000-2001 that didn't work out, still regret that to this day. Saw them in some shitty club in Kalamazoo, MI, Dan was sitting at the bar by himself, I bought next round and then he got next round after that. Absolutely top notch and my absolute favorite band through all these years. Saw them in Portland, OR last year and they continue to amaze. Every album blows me away just like the previous album! Will love these guys and their music until I am no more. Hoping they last forever, so underrated that its criminal
Saw them back in 2017 and had a similar story with Dan. He was walking into the venue, venue had a bar out back and inside, and his drink was almost empty so I offered to buy him a new one and we chilled and talked for a solid 10 mins or so. Such a humble great guy
At 12:25, Zombie Russ appears \m/ What a top notch performance! Zao will go down as one of the most important bands in heavy music in the past 30 years, alongside Converge, Dillinger Escape Plan, Hatebreed, and At The Gates.
I completely agree. To those in the know, Zao has consistently put out outstanding metal and hardcore of a unique quality. They've done it so well for so long that it blows me away that they haven't garnered more attention and recognition. They're top notch and have been for decades now.
What a goddamn set list, spanning 25 years and every single pick is a song that any other band would kill to have crafted. Zao are the best, thanks so much.

Been listening to Zao since the 90s. Dan Weyandt's vocals are one of my favorite of all time.
agreed. He's my quintessential metal vocalist.
Best voice in all of extreme metal, regardless of subgenre.
I modeled my high screams after him. Easily one of the best 25 years of bumping them and still going strong
This is the standard for all metal core.
The normal signing sucks ass but his death vocals remind me of Carcass that's a good thing I just wish he would never do clean vocals again

Despite 800 years and 6.25 million member changes Zao is still keeping it weird. Good job fellas. This is a banger!
all current members have been the longest running members in the bands history. Just shy of 20 years without a lineup change! 😀
The quality Zao always deserved. Amazing

how does their vocalist do it? ive listened to metalcore all my life and vocals like these are just another breed of monster.

Dan is the GOAT for a reason. When he joined the band they really solidified their already unique sound.
