First time i heard zao i was a committed christian. I was 19? 20? I fell off didnt believe in anything im 41 now i fought off all religion and feeling of death and thoughts if a god. I recently started talking with god again and boom this pops up. And they sound just as awesome now as then. Thank you.
He has a way of drawing us back towards Him, even after decades of us wandering around on our own, wrestling with how society has marred the notion of faith through warped religious ideals they concocted themselves. It took me a long time to also reach the point where I realised that it doesn't have to be (and isn't) that complicated. Merely talking to Him can have drastic effects on our lives. The rest follows that. I hope you are well and that you know that you are never alone. Take care! Also, Zao slays!
I was 16/17. Zao, Living sacrifice, Project 86, I think Chevelle?, P.O.D., Nailed promise, and I'm sure I'll edit and add more. It was a good time to find metal in this genre.
@@josephhines5004I mean you're kinda ignoring the fact that the guys in the band say they're no longer a Christian band but whatever helps you sleep at night I guess 🤷
forever you'll be looking into hell, and that is far scarier than this album. Much like all of my comments, I am sure this will get removed, but I will persist to express myself. I know that anything to do with christ and the bible is shunned on youtube and all social web sites.
You can hear how seasoned musicans they are. I hae following ZAO since 1998, I was 16 when I was first introduced to Hardcore, ZAO was the first thing I'd ever heard. It was startling, but quickly that faded and the heart of Daniel's messages spoke to me for years. Nice to see them again, I hope there's still heart in the messages for something Good. I haven't read the lyrics
I was there grant weaver. I was there 3000 years ago. In the music aisles of Mardel's, listening to Zao, Living Sacrifice, Extol, Embodyment, and the Solid State lineup.
Those are lyrics to one of their older songs lol 😅. But yea, I'm with you. Back in 99' I was into stuff like poison the well, Shai Hulud, throwdown, Earth crisis, eighteen visions, etc. Then a buddy enlightened me to the whole Christian hxc genre of music. Every band you said, Norma Jean, demon Hunter, blindside, etc. A whole new laundry list of amazing bands I'd never heard of. One of them being Zao. "Where blood and fire bring rest" to this day is still one of my favorite CDs. Thanks for the trip down memory lane my dude. 🤙
Amazing work y'all, i loved coming to see y'all and getting to meet the band, it really meant a lot to me since i was named after y'all. thank you for the amazing music, and for the awesome name!❤
I'm picking up on some Norma Jean, The Chariot, Underoath, Every Time I Die and CarBomb. Slathering in some ambient oddball slow parts and Gojira-esque bell hits and page changes and you've got me on board broski!
I saw Zao in like 2000 and a tiny little bar and pretty much got the shit kicked out of me. Lol To be fair, everyone got the shit kicked out of them because that crowd was absolutely bonkers. One of the best shows I’ve ever seen.
@@DowStUnD86 My daughter was about 8 months old at the time and I wasn't getting much sleep. We had just moved to a new city and were pretty isolated still due to Covid. I ended up watching this (with my daughter) at like 5am and it just inspired the shit out of me in a time when I was simply exhausted in every way.
Damn been listening to this band for 20 years just now finding out they are Christian’s 😂😂😂😂😂 only from your comments….. lame and gay but music is good
Man those drums are unreal
oh.. oh god, this took such a good turn! HOLY SHIT
(I am someone who has never heard of these guys until 4 minutes ago) lol
@@aCertainJadeOfGreen check out the spirit filled hardcore movement you will be pleasantly surprised
The vocals are just right.

Pretty sure Zao no longer claim to be Christian or to create Christian music.
@@aaronchapman3 nah brah look at their fruits they solid in the faith and strong for armegeddon 👌

Im atheist and i will forever look as this band as legends regardless of beliefs or politics these dudes fucking rule regardless! LEGENDS!
Good tunes is good tunes.

what a sick band. The fact dudes stuck with it after all these years and still putting out amazing stuff is not something to disregard.
None of these guys are original members, this is like the 5th era of Zao
This iteration is certainly the best, imo.
I was 7 when i first heard of Zao. It’s funny how i started listening to them this year again then this pops up on my feed.
First time hearing ZAO. So, of course, I read their wiki. Ship of Theseus. Well done boys.
In a time of quietness, I reflect on childhood memories...

Greetings from Serbia, half of my life with ZAO
Unashamed Overcome and Zao those bands changed my life for the better

I'm fairly certain ZAO been around longer than every single one of those bands. Like early 90's, too lazy to look.
Zao inspired those bands. So what you're really hearing is their influence
Gad Zuuuk’s I likes it⚡️refreshing as heck
The sound engineering is one point!!
Goddamn what a band
I think I found my new favorite band!!!
This is well done
Sooooooo gooooooood.
Holy shit. Incredible. You're all stellar.
I remember seeing these guys like 20 years ago at Vinos in Little Rock with Living Sacrifice.
Saw them at Chain Reaction in Anaheim CA around the same time.
lol were we at the same show? I swear was it like... 2001? 2002? The Burn It Down And Walk Away tour?
@@ChopsTV I think 2002, and I think Demon Hunter was also there or they were at Vino's like a month later and they melt together in my brain.
Same
Jeff going TF off behind that kit!

Everytime I saw zao live it was their last show
True! Every time I saw them the lineup changed a bit. Great live band.

Zao still at it from youth to long in the tooth🙌🏼

Everything about this is fuckin awesome
Zao just get better with age. This stuff is amazing, keep doing your thing!
One of the most influential bands in the scene!
Aim no Christian but I have to say that drummer is one bad ass
Reminds me of Jakob in the beginning.
4:35 is like the band is at war with the drummer lol
YES!
These are my favorite songs from Crimson Corridor!
🔥
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Riiipppppppsssssss
what shirt is the white guitarist (sorry, dont know any or their names) wearing? is that a band?
Nice way to begin the weekend oxo
ZAO is a Ship of Theseus band. I’ve been listening to them since Splintered Shards…. Is it the same band 🤔?
No, not even close
No.
We have to give props to Jesse Smith. While he left the band during the Parade of Chaos years; he is the bridge between origins and Funeral of God.
Love all of these performances, I just grabbed the Blu-ray
5:45 💀
Is this the same singer from horse the band?
Dan Wayandt. Too lazy to google it myself lol
I just noticed they aren't using in-ears. Makes it so much better, it's LIVE
🔥intro
i went to 20 zao shows
they only went to 1 of them
Christ is lord
❤️

I pretty much can't stand other music that is very similar to this....but for some reason, Zao just does it so beautifully.
A melodic death build up to a complete genre change to some kind of post hardcore? Interesting
Ron Swanson on the vokills.
