A lot of folks here really not digging The Fear is What Keeps Us Here. Idk, maybe it is because I grow up in the punk scene where that recording style has a distinct charm, but I love the album to death. If you were there and waiting for a follow up to the pristinely produced Funeral of God, I can get how it might have been disappointing but I think in the long run, this album will hold up as unique and powerful, a pillar of Zao's discography. Though a lot of Zao fans will find me weird because I prefer Parade of Chaos to (Self-Titled). But again, that might be the punk rocker in me talking.
It's definitely you. One of the greatest, most mature album they did. I love the new one because it feels like all the good ideas from The Fear and Liberate in one album.
It's funny to hear Zao talk about Albini being "The Man" when they don't realize the impact they themselves have had on their fans. Zao has been around since what? I heard them in 95 or 96 I think. A long time is all I'm saying. To me, Albini is cool. But Zao? They're the man to me.
@Æ N I Ǝ M A and yet, Fear is What Keeps Us Here is EASILY the shittiest record these poor "aggro worship" old salts have had to put out since their tween years, dude. It's not anything ilke Liberate, or havnig the solidarity and unique innovation in sound/overdrives/etc that Where Blood And Fire (plus the self titled)... ...sorry, but ZAO is what I'm watching this for. In fact, I was surprised the man behind Nirvana and members of Zep did something that I've heard better come out of demo casettes I was a part of. No joke, the recording quality sounds good in this video, then listen to it in your car or phone..It's muddled and lo fi the enter time. Albini sounds like a weenie, lol...he can be a legend FOREVER, but my 30+ years of utmost respect and admiration gets diminished when he corrects Zao or other bands I've seen him work with on the "sound they should be going for"...in turn, screwing w/which comes first, chicken or egg (during important PERMANENT moments in lots of bands lives when they learn their sonic identity)
If they were Jews, would you say “I’m not down with Yahweh, but…”? How bout if they were Muslim? Ask yourself why you’re allowed to criticize Christianity but not other religions.
@@billjim334 I don't like the Jewish or Muslim religions either, and I criticize them too, though I have no issue with the ethnicities that are largely associated with those religions. Also, I'm assuming you're saying that Christians are persecuted in the US? If that's true, then why do literally all US presidents have to at least pretend to be Christian to hold office, and why does our entire society revolve around the iconography of an explicitly Christian holiday during this time of year?
@@steve9094 yea i got no clue what the other guys are on. But know He loves you and wants to give you His peace and care. but He gave us free will so He wont force himself on us. Seek God and you will feel the love and peace.. God bless!
I wish someone would master this album in a 'clean' version. I get it they wanted to go with a 'live' sound or raw garage band tone but it sounds very over-blasted.
The production on this album is garbage. I love this band. The material they wrote for this album wasn't presented correctly. This should be remixed at some point by someone who has ears.
RIP STEVE - THE GOAT
Fascinating to hear Dan’s vocal takes that isolated. You always wonder what it sounds like when a vocalist works on their screams at home alone.

I miss the Blood and Fire days. That was my favorite album!

This album feels more like a polished version of Parade but this one still stands as one of my favorite along side Liberate.
It's my favorite Zao album..
I love this album dearly

RIP Steve 🖤
Love hearing Steve Albini talk about Metallica's "St. Anger" album at 20:50. "Nowhere in that documentary do they mention the f@%! up snare drum."
😂😂😂
holy shit thank you so much. i lost my physical copy of the fear (limited edition) in a flood & i was hella fuckin sad.

I'm not down with Jesus, but Zao are pretty good. I'd love to see Albini do records for more hardcore bands.
Can I ask why you feel that way? About the former.
By this point in their career, there were no christians left in the band as far as I understood it.

Silverchair is dope. Agreed.
Anyone knows what is that thing that Steve puts on the floor tom at 24:35 ?
a cut up old drum head to help deaden the drum a little bit
😮
Fun stuff! What an anticlimactic ending though.
The Steelers game ending is hilarious

Sound is perfect how it is
These songs are killers. The production choice kinda makes in unlistenable to me. I would love to hear a polished, but still emotional remake
Production-wise this is probably the worst album that ZAO came out with.
Boring drums on this album.
The performance is pretty crazy imo and the sound of the drums is real raw and punchy
The whole entire production on this album is horrible

It sounds like how they sound live, I think it's perfect.
