This by far is the most informative video on this subject. Thank you for sharing your pitfalls and minor hiccups that you experienced. I believe you have helped so many people with this video along with your first one. I was planning on doing mine in my side yard, but now am rethinking that idea. Great video and tutorial on this DIY project may will try to undertake. New subscriber and glad I came across this series.
Thank you so much for the kind words and taking the time to comment and subscribe! I just opened up a shop in the New England area and have been doing more and more Raptor work so (this goes for everyone) do NOT hesitate to reach out for help! That being said, if you're around MA and want a project done but don't feel up to it, stop by and I can give some pointers or even take on the job for ya 👍
Thank you for the video. I painted my jeep without any prior experience. Did not came out looking like a professional job, but I learned soooooo much. Now I am not so intimidated by the thought of painting. Knowledge is more valuable than perfection. Keep it up 👍🏼
This is the most comprehensive raptor liner video series on UA-cam. Honestly bro, Upol needs to sponsor you so you can do how to videos. Doesn't need to be cars or vehicles. Raptor liner can be used on almost anything. Ex: laptop, wooden chair, a spoon, wheels , plastic garbage can .
I really appreciate the kind words and that you took the time to not only watch, but comment this as well. A ton of work and effort goes into making videos like this, but it's all worth it for comments like these. I definitely have more Raptor videos to come and will be uploading a video where I Raptor an entire BRAND NEW Jeep Gladiator JL this saturday and it will be premiering on February 20th! I'm excited to see what you think of that video as I show a lot of things I may have missed in this video as well as some new aspects of Raptor such as a drop coat. Thanks again, it makes it easier to go through the many hours of editing knowing there are viewers like you watching!
@@MyJeepStory Very cool , can't wait to see the new video with the JL . I subbed to your channel and will be watching the other videos over again ; because I'm planning on raptor lining my 2007 Honda VTX 1300c motorcycle frame. I dumped the bike and scuffed the frame really bad in multiple spots and decided to try something different other than powder coating. I live on the Illinois-wisconsin boarder so it's getting done in mid - April (better weather). That JL is gonna look sweet ! Hey , who knows man . You could have a lucrative side/full time business here. One small suggestion if I may. Since you said the retention viewing was 8 min. How about making several 7 min videos showing different tests . Examples but not limited to: Durability- hammering 2 coated pipes together, drop test , Road salt test - Toss a coated pice of metal and non coated in a bucket of salt water for 1,2,3 weeks and a revised video 3 months later and compare. Maybe get 3 pieces of sheet metal (1 square foot each ) and show different textures that can be achieved with what psi and distance . Could also do a "4 tips and tricks video to a better finish video" I personally like to use a bucket of water with a little aquarium heater set @ 100 degrees , and when I spray paint, plasti dip, or when I used raptor on my rocker panels; I like to shake the cans put in the bucket and warm them up for 5 min shake and warm another 5 then use. I get great results that way. Anyways , it your channel and you can use those if you want 🙂 . Take care man ,hope your channel does great . Takes time but it'll get it'll get there .
I have watched far too many videos of people blowing through this because they moonlight as a professional powder coaters and explain nothing. Thank you for your video on the entire process and this one where you show us your mistakes to help us through the process as more knowledgeable amateurs
Of course! I'm certainly no expert, but I have a good amount of experience and I still recall all of the troubles I had my first couple times spraying Raptor. I'm happy I got to help and I appreciate you taking the time to comment!
Before i started painting vehicles. Our local wreckers had would just let me take doors and hoods. So im glad i got practice on sanding and everything like that
Buying the kits with the stock guns would solve the clogging issue. Just throw the gun away when you move on to the next kits worth of product. You can control the texture at the compressor level dialing down or turning up. I’ve seen good results that way running 80 psi
Live and learn. Next paint job will be spot on! It's always personal gains to know what the problem was and how to fix it and of course to admit there is room for improvement. No other way to make progress.
That's exactly right! One of the most time consuming, but rewarding projects I've taken on and so much was learned in doing so. I think another coat and a final dust coat will fix everything!! Looks great and great info. Still considering this for my truck just worried about regretting it. This stuff is tough to remove.
Tell me about it! It's funny when I did this Raptor only recommended two coats MAX before waiting 24 hours for the next coat. Now the TDS says 2-3 coats and all I keep reading about is a dust or drop coat. I'm happy I learned and if you're interested in doing this for your truck, keep your eye out for my next video that should be out by the end of this week! I got my hands on a 2021 Gladiator that will be completely lined! It's not mine, but I'm working on it for a friend!
That's how we learn it's called experience.I just know that your ride is gonna be smokin when you tweak those glitches.Best regards I personally love the raptor look..
Doing my 90 4runner right now Ordered a primer kit from your last vid! Going to shoot it this weekend! Will just use the standard gun cut it with 2 oz Reducer and 2 oz tint ! If you get a run just take some Duct tape and press it on the run RESHOOT
Great video....one think i did not understand. Using a 4 liter kit, how to set the shot gun? Should i use without cleaning it in between shoting different bottles?
I watched it too, any rule with video is content is king, if you have great info that takes 26 minutes to present, not just fluff and filler, then it should be that long! Since you mentioned nozzle issues and such, I'd love a followup that shows the proper settings etc and maybe some spin off videos showing how you're supposed to clean the gun (the one that comes with the kit would be awesome). Also distance from the vehicle, I've seen other videos that say about 14 inches...but no one mentioned for subsequent coats changing the direction of application...so that was great.
It's tough to find the right balance of how long a video should be without trimming necessary bits, so I appreciate the kind words. I've actually never spent so long on a video until recently and I'm happy to say that I do have a follow-up video on the way where I Raptor a BRAND NEW Gladiator and I show a lot of the things that I was missing from what compressor I use to other details as well. I do indeed show the difference in distances shot and I do want to mention that you will have no issues with the standard Schutz gun that comes with the kit as long as you run a solvent through it after every two bottles of Raptor, that gun is actually more reliable in my opinion albeit the price difference. I'm really excited to premiere that video and it will release February 20th! I can't wait to hear what you think of that video as well!
@@MyJeepStory Sweet, I'll look forward to it...was just looking more closely at my crosstrek's hood and damn has tons of pings from hail (no really deep ones) just little pings that probably total my car's value so may as well raptor it up!!!
Very impressed by this video and the transparency and lessons learned. Rarely do you find something like this anywhere. Thanks. I'm about to Raptor a 2002 WJ. Local paint shop advised no prep was needed on the existing clear coat, which is in great shape, no rust in the desert, but I noticed you did significant prep, also noticed Spiral Design Works did quite a bit of prep. Any recommendations regarding prep based on your Raptor experiences?
Great job by the way 👌 I have 2 questions. 1) where did you get the inline air regulator: maybe a link? & 2) how did you solve the problem of the clogging nozzle; did you have to run a certain chemical thru the gun to help keep it clean so it would spray evenly with each bottle?
I appreciate it and I'm happy to help! You can get the inline air regulator in most hardware stores, but this one from Eastwood is a great example: www.eastwood.com/eastwood-elite-paint-gun-regulator.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwjJmIBhA4EiwAQdCbxuJ77_S94wFHfUpkWvpbO-0-jVpJiZWE8FGmTRdcod15AqFdlg9UwxoCb3cQAvD_BwE As for the clogging nozzle, after every two liters, I run a solvent through the gun until it shoots clear and after every coat, I take the gun apart and thoroughly clean it.
great follow-up ... some seemed self-inflicted ... planning to shoot mine this Saturday 7am 13 Apr 23 between rain days in Florida ... there is no hope for me if humidity is a factor other than surface due or water. OK outta the sun when paint, check panel gaps, Im not doing a video & plan to do mesa gray color in 12 hours start to finish save the bottom 1/4 black another day. Thanks
And thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. It makes my day knowing viewers watch and get to take away from these videos after I spent so much time and effort making them. Please let me know if you have any questions and I would be happy to help 🙌
The only parts of the Vehicle that I would Spray would be the interior removing the carpet and headliner and Inside of the Doors for Sound Proofing and possibly the chassis to reduce vibrations .

@@ob1488 lucky you, I’ve been searching for a newer CRD to start over with. I think you can only get an 08 with the diesel stateside, but they’re so hard to come by. Keep me posted on how it goes for you!
Thank you for watching! I get this question a lot, but in all honesty, I've never had an issue with dirt in the bedliner. I think that this stigma comes from cheaper bedliners that rely on rubber chunks for texture as they don't end up with a smooth texture whatsoever. Raptor is rough, but it's a urethane coating and gets its texture from the spray methods. Cleaning it is even easier and you can take a pressure washer to the paint and clear it of debris super easily! I have no regrets at all in doing this to my Jeep and I recently have laid the paint hard on some trees while off-roading and there's absolutely no chips or anything in the paint. Not only is it unique, but it's very functional. A lot of car guys won't appreciate it due to all of the poorly done jobs done with the single-part rubber bedliners, but Raptor is a great product and isn't to be taken lightly! If you're wondering just how much confidence I have in Raptor, check out my latest videos. I even Raptor Line a brand new Jeep Gladiator JT! ua-cam.com/video/jkSbwAeVNzU/v-deo.html

I'm about to do a final drop coat of raptor liner on my whip. How far would you recommend holding the vari nozzle gun away for the drop? Also I'm thinking about doing 2 turns out on the gun. Thanks for the videos 🙏
Thank you for sharing. Learned a lot from your mistakes. Seems like you're previous owner is that fault for the body panels being too close. Probably a poor fix to an old accident. How's it holding up to the sun.. any fading?
I was genuinely shocked to see that there was bondo applied to the passenger rear quarter panel, but thinking back I did pick this Jeep up from the previous owner at a small shop in PA eight years ago. That being said, the Jeep has been great to me as a first vehicle and as my passion, so no complaints aside 😁 The Raptor is holding up perfectly with absolutely no fading, you can keep up with the Jeep on Instagram to see what it looks like to this day @Casey.ORT8 Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Sure! U-POL makes a white version of Raptor that requires no tint. The part number for this is UP4807 in the gallon version that contains four liters and the hardener along with it. I found it on Amazon here: www.amazon.com/U-Pol-Products-RAPTOR-WHITE-UPL-UP4807/dp/B076CNF2S8
I got a 30 gallon Industrial Air unit that can be found here: www.homedepot.com/p/Industrial-Air-30-Gal-Portable-Electric-Air-Compressor-ILA1883054/202053059?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&mtc=Shopping-B-F_D25H-B-D25H-25_28_COMPRESSORS-NA-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Compressors_Smart&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_D25H-B-D25H-25_28_COMPRESSORS-NA-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Compressors_Smart-71700000081377591-58700006924599093-92700064312898284&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxdSHBhCdARIsAG6zhlWArHzuCzMJ32YNwgsGT0hakmhC0cmCdGDssF5-iS2n-5whvQOwdCgaAhr9EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
Bro upols instructions literally say put multiple LIGHT coats on not thick coats. 😂 now the other questions i asked in the other video are making sense.
It's great when it works properly! Otherwise you have to clean it after every two bottles. HVLP is a great option for coverage or for a first coat, but the coats just come out so thin and for my application, wouldn't be as durable as I'd prefer for trails. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
After doing research, this is just an inherent part of this type of gun that has a lot of material flow. Residual material starts to very slowly cure and it’s recommended to shoot acetone through the gun after every two bottles of Raptor!
I did slightly do this, but I did it after every coat which is equivalent to 6 six or so bottles meaning I went around 10-15 minutes without spraying a solvent through to clear the pathway. Then at the end of each coat, I didn’t think to disassemble the gun for a deep clean resulting in thinner coats due to restricted material flow the next time around. It’s a shame, but you live and you learn!
@@MyJeepStory Oh I see! Thanks for explaining! Excited to benefit from your experience and do it the right way. I'm bedlining a 10th gen f150. I might use the Wagner turbine sprayer instead of compressor and upol gun tho.
Incredibly in depth videos and kudos for the follow up teaching people the problems. I have raptored several times and used several "other" products before I found Raptor. Two thing I have found, 1the cheaper gun actually has worked better for me, not as many variables, and the clearances on parts, ran into problems with lights lining up after so just be light around these areas. Great videos! The hair though! But I'm 53 so who cares. Keep up the adventures!

Thank you for sharing!
Any recommendations regarding prep based on your Raptor experiences?
did you complete your WJ paint? issues?
Nice followup....subscribed
Thank you so much!
I will say your wj looks as good as any one out there
No solid axle up front and a generation newer makes this a WK, but thank you for watching and commenting!
You can get the inline air regulator in most hardware stores, but this one from Eastwood is a great example: www.eastwood.com/eastwood-elite-paint-gun-regulator.html?gclid=CjwKCAjwjJmIBhA4EiwAQdCbxuJ77_S94wFHfUpkWvpbO-0-jVpJiZWE8FGmTRdcod15AqFdlg9UwxoCb3cQAvD_BwE
As for the clogging nozzle, after every two liters, I run a solvent through the gun until it shoots clear and after every coat, I take the gun apart and thoroughly clean it.
great follow-up ... some seemed self-inflicted ... planning to shoot mine this Saturday 7am 13 Apr 23 between rain days in Florida ... there is no hope for me if humidity is a factor other than surface due or water. OK outta the sun when paint, check panel gaps, Im not doing a video & plan to do mesa gray color in 12 hours start to finish save the bottom 1/4 black another day. Thanks
Great videos and really informative, thank you!
And thank you for watching and taking the time to comment. It makes my day knowing viewers watch and get to take away from these videos after I spent so much time and effort making them. Please let me know if you have any questions and I would be happy to help 🙌
Thanx heaps !!! Very helpful video.
Great instructional videos! How about the door jambs, will it stay in stock colors?
The only parts of the Vehicle that I would Spray would be the interior removing the carpet and headliner and Inside of the Doors for Sound Proofing and possibly the chassis to reduce vibrations .
All of which are great ideas! Let me know how it turns out if you ever decide to follow through with that.
Thank you for the information. 🙂👍
Thanks for doing this video
great info!
Thank you!
Just found your channel. Love the jeep. Is there an actual build video? Greetings from the UK.
No way, what part of the UK? My girlfriend studied abroad in Glasgow and I visited just before the pandemic hit. No build video up as of yet, but expect it soon!
@@MyJeepStory Kent. South East. Just got an 09 crd overland and am looking to take it beyond just oem plus. Look forward to seeing the video I'll see what ideas I can steal. Went to Glasgow once. Good pubs.
@@ob1488 lucky you, I’ve been searching for a newer CRD to start over with. I think you can only get an 08 with the diesel stateside, but they’re so hard to come by. Keep me posted on how it goes for you!
Great Video. Well said. Great Take Aways Thx Dude.
No problem! I’m happy you watched and can’t thank you enough for the feedback. Feel free to message me if you need help with anything!

Thx for info!
Awesome video! Question, does dirt tend to cling and build up in the textured finish? 90% sure I will be doing the process, any regrets?

@@MyJeepStory I'm Raptor lining my Toyota RAV4 and this will be the first time ever I'm painting a vehicle and I'm worried I'm going to mess it up so I've sanded everything down I've already taped off the windows and everything else that needs to be covered and I've already primed it but I was told I had to put adhesive spray over the prime of first before I spray the Raptor liner I'm from East New York Brooklyn currently I'm in Syracuse New York and too bad you weren't in this area close by because I would have paid you to Raptor line it LOL I've already done all the other work so it's ready to be sprayed
@@gilcruz7869 hey bro, how'd it turn out? I'm from queens by the way, 10 minutes from ENY
@@charlesnorthwest459 actually turned out pretty good brother
I'm about to do a final drop coat of raptor liner on my whip. How far would you recommend holding the vari nozzle gun away for the drop? Also I'm thinking about doing 2 turns out on the gun. Thanks for the videos 🙏
Thx mate very good adviceces thx a lot
How did you get rid of the tiger striping? Did you just do another coat?
Thank you for sharing. Learned a lot from your mistakes. Seems like you're previous owner is that fault for the body panels being too close. Probably a poor fix to an old accident. How's it holding up to the sun.. any fading?
I was genuinely shocked to see that there was bondo applied to the passenger rear quarter panel, but thinking back I did pick this Jeep up from the previous owner at a small shop in PA eight years ago. That being said, the Jeep has been great to me as a first vehicle and as my passion, so no complaints aside 😁 The Raptor is holding up perfectly with absolutely no fading, you can keep up with the Jeep on Instagram to see what it looks like to this day @Casey.ORT8
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment!
Would it have been better to shoot the RL with the provided gun rather than your paint gun?
Tnx!!👍🏻😷
And thank YOU!
how often should you be needing to clean the gun of cloggs?
Where did you get your bumpers???? I have a 2005 and want to get bumpers for her
Im not a jeep fan, but damn urs looks pretty nice .. a tuff look... Impressive
Can you point me in the right direction to get some white raptor liner??
Sure! U-POL makes a white version of Raptor that requires no tint. The part number for this is UP4807 in the gallon version that contains four liters and the hardener along with it. I found it on Amazon here: www.amazon.com/U-Pol-Products-RAPTOR-WHITE-UPL-UP4807/dp/B076CNF2S8
@@MyJeepStory thank you so much
Of course! Just let me know if you have any other questions.

too many 🙄 I just hit 130K miles on it. And thank you for taking the time to watch and comment in as well, it means a lot to me!
We all made mistakes it happens everyone it look great on jeep I agree with you it is better wash car before noon so doesn't get hard clean off lol
What compressor did you get for this job?
I got a 30 gallon Industrial Air unit that can be found here: www.homedepot.com/p/Industrial-Air-30-Gal-Portable-Electric-Air-Compressor-ILA1883054/202053059?source=shoppingads&locale=en-US&mtc=Shopping-B-F_D25H-B-D25H-25_28_COMPRESSORS-NA-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Compressors_Smart&cm_mmc=Shopping-B-F_D25H-B-D25H-25_28_COMPRESSORS-NA-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-Compressors_Smart-71700000081377591-58700006924599093-92700064312898284&gclid=Cj0KCQjwxdSHBhCdARIsAG6zhlWArHzuCzMJ32YNwgsGT0hakmhC0cmCdGDssF5-iS2n-5whvQOwdCgaAhr9EALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds
how many bottles did you need?
Bro upols instructions literally say put multiple LIGHT coats on not thick coats. 😂 now the other questions i asked in the other video are making sense.
Looks the varinozzle gun kind of sucks and hvlp is the way to go
It's great when it works properly! Otherwise you have to clean it after every two bottles. HVLP is a great option for coverage or for a first coat, but the coats just come out so thin and for my application, wouldn't be as durable as I'd prefer for trails. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
I just rented a booth it was worth the 150 bones.
TBH I didn't know that this was an option 😢
I wasn't clear on why your gun was clogging up?
After doing research, this is just an inherent part of this type of gun that has a lot of material flow. Residual material starts to very slowly cure and it’s recommended to shoot acetone through the gun after every two bottles of Raptor!
@@MyJeepStory oh I thought you did that! Why I was confused
