      @@slbleadworksunfortunately they are necessary as water will run off the lead and down the side of the wall. Coping stones have a 50mm overhand each side and a drip channel to prevent this

    Excellent Video of your work ....Warning Warning OSB ..OSB ..OSB....Remember putting up Timber Frames we laid chipboard floor so we could work on that floor the roof was not on and it pissed down with rain for 6 weeks we had to bore holes in the floor to let the water through as there was in pools of water all over on the floor. this was 30 year ago or so it was V1313 waterproof chipboard . Did not believe the floor was okay after 6 weeks of rain so we cut patches of the floor sent them away for testing and low and behold the floor passed the inspection. Now OSB Hymm from what I can gather it does not do well in the wet so it seems strange to put all that lead work stone capping on to what seems a possible problem in the future although the OSB is protected ..Unless someone tells me different of course. Has OSB been tested recommended by Architect /Design for this type of application does seem strange to me I could be wrong of course.....Interesting well done Stuart excellent lead work.

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  Рік тому +1

      Thank you. It’s not ideal to use osb in lead work applications. But yes I suppose you could argue that it’s totally protected.
      There is a grade A building paper underneath and of course then the lead capping creating a watertight seal. The builder didn’t use this on the dormers etc. just on the capping and gutters

    thanks for such a nice video. a silly question, what is that paper doing under lead?

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  5 місяців тому +1

      It protects the under side of the lead from alkalis in concrete stone and screed.
      And also reduces corrosive attack when laying onto plywood and oak.

    What do you think of OSB as a substrate for leadwork? OSB is ok and it was onsite and to hand here as a required substrate for the liquid roof membrane but I hate seeing it used under lead as your leadwork will surely out live the OSB by many many decades.

    • @slbleadworks
      @slbleadworks  Рік тому +2

      Thank you.
      I’m not a fan of OSB for leadwork and this shouldn’t be used. But like you say it was here to hand so it’s what the builder gave me to work with unfortunately.

    • @jmarco4331
      @jmarco4331 Рік тому

      I agree. The builder should be using treated lumber on anything the comes in contact with concrete or masonry.

    • @Simon__Davies
      @Simon__Davies 8 місяців тому

      To be fair though i am constantly suprised how long osb lasts. I had a hole in my trailer and needed to pick up some gravel so i threw a sheet of osb over the hole to get this job done and that sheet was i the trailer for 5 years or more outside getting rained and snowed on. When i finally got round to reboarding the trailer i thought the osb would just break up easy and id burn it. I had to cut it with a circular saw to burn it. That board was still in great shape 😅
