  • A video showing how I lay concrete wall copings. This wall had a curve with an upwards slope so was a bit of a challenge!

Should make a bendy spirit level to range them through 😂😂

I’d have paid good money for one of them 🤣. I use plastic fascia for curves but it doesn’t work when you have a slope too 😞

Hi, im building a new build in ireland. My blocl layer used 6x4 inch conc lintels for over any wimdows under 2M im length. How much of an overhang ahould there be ao for example a 1000mm window how lomg should the conc lintel be

Regs here in the UK are 150mm either side so for a 1000mm opening you’d have at least a 1300mm length lintel. How much overhang is he putting in?

@@SamDaviesBuilder so heres the story. He gave me a list for all me lintels to be 400mm plus over window size. So i have 200mm of overhang either side. But i decided before he put the lintels on that i want to step back the inside leaf reveals 50mm either side as im putting a 63mm insulation slab on all my external walls (inside leaf) and want to return the slab on my inside reveals. So now isntead of 200mm over hang either side i now have 150mm overhang on inside leaf of all openings. But the problem is i noticed some of the lintels are not centered right and on the inside leaf openings he put 180mm on one side and 120mm on other side. Couple of places hes 200mm on one side and 100mm on other side. Hes using 6x4 inch lintels which are very strong but i have concrete slab floor for the upstairs lying on the inside leaf so theres alot of weight on inside leaf and im abit worried could it cause problems because in some places hes 100mm one side and 200mm on other. What you think? I presume that happens alot that lintels arnt ecactly centered. Any of the big opening like 2M plus i have the conc lintel and then a steel lintel over it the ones im worried about just have conc lintels and the window openings are at front of house at 1000mm wide and because of atep back 1100mm wide on inside leaf. My conc slab floors are sitting on inside leaf of blocks from back to front

@@jericho9653 old regs used to be 100mm overhang for lintels then they changed to 150mm. The overhangs should always be even too. I can't see it causing a major problem but I can't give a definitive answer. Do you have a building inspector that oversees the work? They would usually pick up on stuff like this

I have an engineer. In ireland we have to have an engineer and he said 150mm either side will do. Over here they normally say 9 inch over hang either side so 225mm overhang. But 150mm is min here too. My engineer said 150mm would be fine but im only aftet spotting some of the lintels are not exactly centered. Saying that there 6x4 imch lintels and the windows im worried about at at front of house and are only 1100mm wide on inside leaf, 1000mm on outside leaf. I reckon even 100mm would be fine. Old houses used to have timber lintels in them and only overhanging maybe an inch. Most of them have 150mm on each side id say will be fine

@@jericho9653 yea I’d say you’d be fine but good you can spot these things as sounds like you have a keen eye with what’s going on in your build. All the best with the rest of your project! I built my own and it’s so much work but rewarding when it’s done!

Thats a hell of a cutter. Is it yours or did you hire it for this job?

Thanks! The upwards curve was a nightmare, especially in the cold too. That is my cutter, I bought it for porcelain patios but I also use it for bits like this too. Saves me breathing all the dust in, better cuts and better for my back!

The leather handle one I had broke (detached at the handle) so the place I bought it from replaced it for one with a different handle. Need to break it in again now!

The handles on the Bon trowels don’t seem to be pushed on far enough to the tang . I have a narrow London one with the soft grip handle and i had to bang the handle on a bit . Nice job putting the slurry on the back of the wall copings .

Thankyou, the primer is often overlooked on copings and they just pop off over time if you don’t primer them.
