That citizen is really lucky to have not only two space marines to be trying to comfort him, but two space marines from two different chapters, this is a one in a million event.
Odds are if there's more than one chapter fighting in a location, the situation is severely fucked. Which means that dude is even more lucky to be alive to still survive the ongoing event on the planet. At least for a little while longer.

This is actually really beautiful from the iron hand, as it makes sense. If you lose someone you can recover but it won't be the same. There are treatments to make the scar less visible but as he said, it will always be there.
Most likely the Iron Hand is responsible because the guys house was directly in a route that would've seen a marginal increase in fuel efficiency for travel time.
“I don’t care what scars do”
-lord shen
The Iron Hand actually makes really good points. It’s not necessarily as soothing in the short term (which arguably is also important), but the wisdom will serve better over the long term.
I was kind of expecting the Iron Hand to go into a philosophical monolog of how the citizen's psychological scars may never heal and how the flesh must be made strong and resilient so that he could seek out revenge against those who had murdered his family.

Not true. The rudest Salamander would keep it much more brief "Sorry for your loss citizen, I am needed elsewhere however" and left.
