I bought a set of Chinese timing tools for a BMW engine. The pin to lock the crankshaft somehow went in easily, but after finishing the repair I struggled for a whole day on the driveway trying to remove it. I ended up having to remove the gearbox and smash the thing out from inside! It made what was already a difficult job (Vanos and valvetronic rebuild) into an absolute nightmare, I think it was down to the fact the the pin was a slightly larger diameter compared to the official BMW tool.
@jackiemay9471 No not at all. I was very careful not to put any rotational force against it. It wasn't bent, just super tight in the hole. I was only working on the cam gear, and there was no timing chain on it when tightening the camsprockets etc
@@MattyEngland so the only thing then i can think is the pin was cold going in to a warm engine pin warmed engine cooled and solid friction fit better than welding that was bad luck
Use Wurth Rost Off spray it freezes the component to -45c shrinking it by 5% & turning it blue to indicate the temperature so that would have stood a chance of coming out , just a tip for next time , also good for seized brake bleed nipples ,again another tip fir you 👍🤙
@@richie674 Yeah we tried freezer spray on the pin as well as heating the casing up, still no luck. Part of the issue was that access to it was super tight and hard to get any tools on it.
Great job! I have watched at least 6 hours of your videos today and that's because I am about to buy a 2013 508 with the 1.6 turbo engine. Lots of people are telling me to run away from the problematic engine. I want to make an objective and informed decision. 😅😅😅
Like anything... they all have their pros and cons... but ultimately, the main thing is maintenance... regular oil and filters change go a long way... 👍👍👍
The "timing" was set to "It's Friday afternoon so just get it(mostly) back together and if it doesn't work we'll send it elsewhere"! Yet again Luis, YOU have to sort it out properly after some other "workshop" has failed completely, so looking ahead to Episode 2! Michael
EP6C so cylinder one is closest to the transmission :-) opposite to what you think and yep torque to yield cam sprocket bolts single use, did you make sure the vanos gears were locked in position before checking the valve timing? 27mm spanner on each camshaft, make sure you can't turn camshaft (without locking tool in place), if you can then vanos not locked and probably faulty, great video!!
French ones are usually that way... cylinder one gearbox sude... But you never know, the day they do something different and it bites you in the but...😁 There is a part 2... Stay tuned... 👍👍👍
Once you had low compression on all 4 cylinders, I initially thought that the exhaust valves are open ~ timing was out. Great video, 35 mins in already. Edit ~ Please wear some gloves 😢.
When you said you got the bolts from MINI - is this a PSA engine in a MINI or a BMW engine in a PSA car ?? Great video thanks for posting it - looking forward to part 2 !!

vti worst engine ever ;) in my scenario p308 1.4vti 2012. i have 7 compresion on all cilinders , cloged catalytic converter was fault and burned 8 exhaust valves

DID YOU USE THE PIN TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS NUTS ECT and bent it its for alignment and not holding

@LMAutoRepairs Thanks for the response.
I have decided against it. Probably, I would go for a Honda or Toyota.

Indeed... unfortunately, they left a small gift for me... all in the next video...
👍👍👍
I believe these garages need to be named and shamed. So the average laymen doesnt get ripped oft
Great video luis looking forward to part two
Part two was out today...😉
👍👍👍
Well what can I say I have a 2016 ds3 to do and this is going to help me very much . Brilliant timing sorry about the punt .
😊
Nice!
👍👍👍
Can't wait for part 2. More fault finding and fixing
😊
👍👍👍
Great video as always thank you for sharing your experience
😊
👍👍👍
Nice job LM but am still waiting for the oscilloscope recapture thank you...

i have said before a lot of psa engines no 1 next to gearbox
"you think" - I cannot think of any french engine that has number 1 at the crank pulley end. If you don't know that, put down the spanners now.
@@timbo19751975 Was quite clear what he meant.
😊
Looks like the cylinder 1 position was the most important part of the video...

I usually start working with gloves... untill i get fed-up with them getting in the way...😅

It's almost like the garage timed it with the No 1 at TDC
😊
👍👍👍
And we know which number 1 is on a french engine ;))))))
@@timbo19751975 French engineers will probably bring out a 5 cylinder engine soon with number one in the middle 🤣🤣🤣

It's a PSA engine
My Pug RCZ PSA 2ltr diesel has the same motor as the Ford S-Max.
good morning Luis WHY DID NT THE CAR SET A CAM CRANK CORILATION CODE did i see tops of the pistons in the last frame OUCH

Could well be...
👍👍👍
I didn't see the video for the nissan x- trail
Head removed again? Ouch... Not good.
Not good indeed!
👍👍👍
THP engine with problems, who would say 🤣
😅
👍👍👍
Pretty sure it have been done without special tools and with pistons at TDC, that is the only way i can see it been so much out of timing.
Probably... 😊
👍👍👍
i think a new head is required
Well... stay tuned...😉
👍👍👍
id just give it back lol it seems more has been going on .

Wait for part 2...

😬
exhaust or intake valves are not watertight unfortunately it will be necessary to remove the cylinder head
wrong.
75psi reading %140psi the original or a loss of 50% of the compression to be kind, it's the valves, hoping that it's not the cylinders that are washed
Stay tuned...😉

Only 50k and so much problems.

Please shorter video. I dont see 1,5 hour
I can't help it...😋

@@LMAutoRepairs Your video is fine, lots of information. People can skip forward if they want to.
