I'm a Fiat tech, even here in Italy we have lots of independent mechanics or even owners trying to replace the timing kit without using proper tools, then having the p0016 😂 Two tips I can give you are: 1- when you have the flasing MIL, you can do the crankshaft learning just doing the three revs method, without using the scan tool. 2- it's mandatory to reset the crankshaft self-learning values with the scan tool when you replace the timing belt, remove the phonic wheel or whenever you touch everything involving the timing. Failing to do this, will trigger multiple cylinders misfire when holding the engine at high rpm's (for example on highway). Happened to my personal car after replacing the timing belt and I was shocked when I discovered this...
Good to know that once again one of the waveforms I have put up on Rotkee library have come in useful 🖕 it's the second one you have used of mine on your channel, we all at some point been sent down rabbit holes and left scratching our head.
I definitely learned something! I'll put it into my library of possible faults to look for. I really appreciate when you let us follow you through the rabbit holes - great video 👍
Thanks for the video. There is lots of information , I had same problem with fiat 500, Customer asked to timing belt replacement and because I didn't have special timing tools I find same fault code and I couldn't erase the code because I missed two teeth. Thanks again for the video
Brilliant - Not your fault really - Im sure EVERY ONE has been given duff infomation at sometime - glad you found it in the end - Charge "person A " extra for the duff infomation !! !! Thank you
We used to get that fault condition when changing crank sensors on Fiat Punto's with the FIRE engine. You could get around it by doing a phonic wheel relearn, or just boot it to max rpm 3 times like you did here. I wonder did they damage or disturb something doing the sump job? Great video as always 👍
Again, well done. When you told the back story, I knew it had to be timing out! After a few minutes I jumped @55:00 where you explained the full story, then got the timing kit and re-timed cam and camshaft. I assume the original garage didn't use a timing kit! That's a simple engine, imagine that garage dealing with a wet belt engine or a non keyed magneic pulley! The original people, I won't call them mechanics, need to update themselves on procedures on newer vehicles and engines.
Good job Luis 👍, I’ve dealt with this issue on this engine many times and corrected a few as lot of garages are changing the timing belt using paint marks with no tools and the timing then needs to a be a tiny bit out then engine starts missfiring after driven a distance , seen garages chuck parts on them like coils , ecu and it’s all was down to the timing slightly out- crazy
Another internet "expert"? Those engines can be done without timing tools and those can be a bit off, without tripping fault codes or giving drivability problems. There IS room for error. One must be really lame to trip codes (like P0016).
@@GrandePunto8V- yep it seems like you are an amateur fiat internet expert , and it’s people like you who set timing without tools and caused issues like Luis and I had , I’m not saying you cannot use paint - even I do sometimes to aid - I just mean this engine in the 500 and ka are very sensitive , you have just been fortunate not to have issues - you should always use special tools - that’s what they are made for to do the job properly- but happy painting anyways

Some Fluke multimeters have a low Z setting. This allows you to measure voltages with a low ohm load (actually putting a load on the circuit rather than the typical multimeter).
hi how are you ? 307 peogeot suddenly stalled when i tried to start the engine it was cranking but no start i checked the fuel pump no power there then i tried to start engine again it didnt crank i unplugged the car battery then the car started then i checked by the scan tool ..crank sensor my question is was it really the crank or the fuse box of the engine ???? when i checked the fuses number 5 which is for the fuel pump by lamp test made the wipper to run ?????? do i chang the crank sensor or check the fuse box of the engine is it normal for this cars not to crank if crank sensor goes bad ? or what
Hi Sometimes the sensor fails when it is hot... which makes some sense based on your story, after cooling down the car started... the disconnection of the battery etc, just gave time for it to cool down... Could be fuse box, but I wouldn't go there yet, investigate the crank sensor first... 👍👍👍
@@LMAutoRepairs yes i agree but my question did the car go in a safe mood that i cant crank it because of the bad sensor --- i will try the crank sensor and update you

Just because it's got a ford badge doesn't mean it's a ford. Too many people in comments think it's just a fiat engine. This one isn't. Everything is fiat on it except the badge. Anyway, it's not just this one that needs to see an error free engine run before it will let you clear codes, there are plenty of others the same. Some mercedes and land rovers need to be driven 5 miles plus before some codes will clear. And to make life even easier, some ECUs don't even flag a code when things like crank sensors or injectors or EGRs are unplugged/faulty.

My guess would be a bad ECU because it doesn't make sense why the code never changes and how does it know the timing isn't correct when the engine wasn't even started
This is a lame way of thinking, because a lack of basics (principle of operation of the engine). The problem is obvious at 5:37 time mark (if you know the engines and Fiat FIRE family ones + VVT)...
