The consulate of my country was closed multiple times and I had to wait for 14 months to get my new papers. So yeah my life has been a limbo since then. I will finally continue my studies next year in September. Based on my experience, the students that could not enter Japan must have felt horrible. It feels like everyone else is doing fine and you are the only one being fucked over. Like life stopped for you while everyone you know is going forward.
I had that same feeling years ago that everyone has moved forward while I've done nothing significant. Trust me everything will be fine and just trust the process, focus on yourself and don't think that you're left behind, the goal here is the finish line and it doesn't matter who finishes first. 58:10 garnt, we knew. just take your time for your masterpiece. some of us have been through the "dark age" of 2 videos three years. why are you afraid of losing your audiences, when we can see you every week ? I think Joey and Connor are massively productive when it comes to content, don't feel pressured about it. To me gigguk videos are the 1st priorities, it's that holiday gift you wait for a month.👍
Hmm, I feel like his segment on why he doesn't upload as often anymore was very defensive. He is saying things like I shouldn't compare but he is very clearly comparing. I'm still not super convinced that his process is streamlined anyway. I don't watch enough of his content to notice.

If Connor got an assistant who knew Japanese and English, besides just helping him keep organized, they could really help him out with the more complicated Japanese bureaucracy. Plus he could practice his Japanese more by trying to mainly speak with them in Japanese.
I'd love to see a Garnt interview channel. Where he interviews other youtubers, vtubers, and internet personalities that be kind of great. He really asks good questions and keeps the conversation going.
I feel like this concept is already being done by Anthony Padilla in his series of "I Spent a Day With *insert person*", it has quite a wide audience so I'm not sure if now is the best time for it
13:23 I'd like to weigh in on the discussion regarding entry to Japan and borders opening up. New foreign entries are not allowed into the country and essentially haven't for 2 years (unless you're a famous DJ or an olympic athlete). Regardless of having a legitimate reason to go to Japan, be it for work, studies or as a dependent (this is generally the visa given to close family members of a foreigner living in Japan) we are not allowed in. Applying for special circumstances was difficult and has been made impossible after the re-closure this December. The only new entries allowed at the moment are spouses and children of Japanese nationals or Permanent Residents, and refugees. Before COVID, getting your Certificate of Eligibility (which proves your eligibility for a visa and entry into the country) was all you needed to make your visa and get into the country. However now the process of making the visa is put on hold due to Japan's entry restrictions, which aside from a brief opening in 2020 Oct-Dec and the three weeks from November 8th of this year has been on hold for 2 years. When they "opened" the borders on November 8th, they added a new requirement for making the visa which is the "screening certificate". Applying for this certificate was so incredibly cumbersome that only about 200 people of the 300'000 waiting to get into Japan were let in. Some people who were able to get this certificate in time have their visa in hand but still cannot enter the country because they are a "new entry" which is not allowed starting December 1st. Many have been waiting patiently for 2 years. Some have become homeless and have gone through immense financial difficulty while waiting for the country to open up. I work for a Japanese company remotely while waiting for the country to open up and finally being able to live my life again. Due to the lack of clear information and bureaucratic nightmare applying for the screening certificate was, my company wasn't able to get this certificate in time. I have no access to my salary as it is in my Japanese bank account. I pay into my Japanese retirement pension, I pay for health care, social health care, and all the other taxes that are deducted from my salary every month. Next month I will also be paying for my apartment I can't live in (getting the contract was necessary in order to apply for the screening certificate). I pay for things I am not able to take advantage of because I'm a "new entry", yet I am financially contributing to the country. Not to mention the decline in my mental health by not working in optimal conditions due to the distance and time differences, as well as being separated from my partner who lives in Japan. If only being eligible for a visa would actually let you make the visa and get into the country. Unfortunately for Japan it's not that simple.
Good god. All I can say is that Omicron is probably* a trend of the virus going towards a less harmful direction based on current studies, so hopefully you will be able to go back into your country of employment fairly soon. Have no idea what to say about the bureaucracy :(
It's times like during Holidays that I really appreciate you guys taking the extra time to build a backlog of episodes for us, so they can still air every Friday. Honestly watching this episode is one of the best parts of this year's Christmas Eve. Thanks!
Something I've realized in my opinion, throughout consistently listening to Trash Taste is that the bois get into like "deep" conversations shorter into the episode. Like not just constantly, changing tangents but rather really going deep into things like how they live in a society, their jobs, and in general. Keep it up guys. Hopefully you find more success in the coming year!
1:34:55 Fun Fact: The morrocan pot joey was talking about is called a "Tajine" and it's used to cook specialized dishes with chicken, meat etc.. PS: It does not take 6hrs to cook, we do it in 2-3 hrs 😅
I got into Tokyo University to do politics in Feb to start in September. (I'm in the UK). I got the document to get the visa in June, hoping I'd be able to get over end of August. And that didn't happen and I then thought well it must be by the end of the year for sure and also hoping I'd be able to do the lectures and lessons on demand ( at least some of them). I started virtually from the UK in sept and my day was from 02.00 AM to 10.00 AM. This was hell starting at 2 AM doing 2 hrs of Japanese then do 6 more hrs of lessons (it was laid out like a UK sixth form school day for comparison). I got to November and I was depressed and listening to nirvana so I couldn't go on. I applied and got a leave of absence which meant that I would basically restart the 1st semester in April. A week after I started my leave of absence the Japan COVID rules got worse and worse and they announced their very poor plan to let students into the country where I wouldn't be able to enter the country until at least mid next year. Anyway I am unfortunately no longer going to study in Japan which is a shame but I can't wait to come back. I just got over before main COVID in Jan 2019 for a holiday. Thank you for all your content. P.s. I'm one of the fans who has zero interest in anime yet watches all of your (and significant other's) channels.
13:23 I waited for 18 months to study in Japan as a language student. Finally thought I might make it in November 2021 when the border announcement came for students, only for Omicron to arrive in December. Japan closed the borders again and I've since cancelled and gone back to work in the UK as I couldn't carry on like this for any longer. So this part of this podcast was a little bittersweet. To answer why I and other students have waited so long, the 18 months was essentially a never ending process of being strung along every few months. For most of 2021, the Japanese government never confirmed when the borders would open, but the immigration authorities kept extending Certificates of Entitlement (documents students are issued to apply for a visa at a Japanese embassy) for between 3 and 6 months at a time. However, embassies would not accept visa applications while the borders were closed. The result was a cycle of students, language schools and universities getting their hopes up that the borders would open by the end of the latest CoE extension, but each time they just extended CoEs after that. Some schools even encouraged students to start their courses online, promising they could continue from their more advanced stage after they'd entered Japan, assuming the borders would open soon. As it's happened, for most students they never did. Shout out to all those who braved those online lessons through the night, as you have to do here in the UK and Europe due to time zones. I turned that option down as I knew I couldn't handle it. I hope you make it in the end.
I didn't have a choice of whether i want to take the online classes or not. I had to, and I'm still doing them and slowly dying every day, juggling work and school at the middle of the night has been a hellish nightmare.💀 But I can't live this fucking nightmare another semester. I'm not mad at the boys, at the point this was filmed i literally had booked floght to Japan, i also thought everything will be fine. 😅 But It would be nice if they at least tweet smth about this issue.🤞
My lessons start April 2022, I hope things get resolved by then. Doing a semester like that seems hellish having to do more than one would be nearly impossibile.
@@Gio-kg4gb in the west we’re getting the episode on the 31st, before the beginning of the year, meaning this episode isn’t the last episode of the year for us
That threw me off as an Australian haha. Never quite sure whether we're considered Western (culturally) or Eastern (geographically), but I guess all in all east and west are completely relative unlike north/south so it doesn't really matter.
It’s cause depending on the time zone you’re in, you get in a day before the day they actually upload it. For example in the part of US I live in, the time difference between where I live and Japan is 16 hours. So whatever time it is for me, it’s the next day over there. TT uploads on Saturdays in Japan so I get it on Fridays.
Had a terrible day today, couldnt celebrate christmas with friends due to unfortunate events, but trash taste at laste saved my day! At least i could hang out virtually with the boys.

gosh fuck, it really feels weird that we're wrapping year 2 of Trash Taste, it still feels like the first episode came out a month ago or so gonna get sappy as shit for a sec, whenever I feel down in any part of the week I remember that this friday will be a new episode and I get to hear the boys talk shit and argue and just have fun really cannot wait for what next year has in store for Trash Taste, I know for sure that it will continue being fucking great, thank you so much ; v ;
In Morocco and North West Africa we call Joey's dad specialty a (Tajin - طاجين). So cool hearing that Tajins (the pots) have reached the other side of the world all over at Australia.
Everyone needs to work on their mindset when it comes to this current situation. It’s not about when we can do stuff again, it’s about changing how we do things so that we don’t have to live through this a 6th time.
Garnt, dont ya worry! We love your content and we totally get if you can only upload once or twice a month. We are already getting trash taste weekly from you so we are getting fed well!

When they talk about christmas in australia, as a southeast asian (Philippines), I can totally relate to joey. Christmas is christmas regardless of how hot it is here. Plus there's this thing here called "ber months", from septemBER to DecemBER and it's the sign of the christmas spirit. So in Philippines, you can see christmas decorations as early as september 1. And it ends around 1st-2nd week of january

The discussion about burnout and second channels is one of my favorite they had in all Trash Taste episodes. It is so comprehensible and it gives me a much better understanding of the workload and effort the guys put in every channel and every video they make. Really appreciate all the work you put in your videos and all the time you guys spend for the content we can and do enjoy. I never write any comments under videos, but this topic is really important to me and I wanted to express myself. Keep going guys. See you next year!
NFT's just suck. Ever since i found out that people were selling artworks from artists that passed away and without permission from the artists (or their family), it became a solidified no-go for me. Happy Holidays, everyone :)
I feel so sorry for student that didn't have the chance to go to Japan for their studies. I moved to Japan in 2014 and from 2016 to 2018 I went to a Japanese vocational school. Moved back just before the pandemic but waiting for the country to fully open up so I can go back.
Mudan is holding back 99% of his power on stream so that we, mere mortals, can keep up with what he's doing. At normal speed we would blink our eyes and he's just finished editing a whole video. Can't wait for Mudan as a guest
52:30 : what Garnt says is so important for so many people. It's really easy to put some unrealistic pressure on ourselves, and realising what's possible to do while taking care of our mental / physical health in a professional setting is something that I'd say we should focus on more.

as a man without a dishwasher, and who has to hand wash dishes EVERY DAY, I am so envious of all of them (and not for working in anime type content, but for the dishwashers they got themselves)
29:35 Salmon is STILL peasant food. It just has a lot of large chains marketing for it. Look at the price of salmon, then look at the price of any other fish (ignore shellfish as they are absurd) it will be much cheaper 90% of the time. It’s farmable, the fish are large and while mixed trawled fish are currently cheaper salmon is far more sustainable so the price trends are a lot less prone to upset.
Thank you to the bois for making this year so Interesting and fun! Also Merry Christmassss to everyone who's reading! I hope that whoever stumbles upon this comment is currently happy and will continue being so. Also as this is their last episode this year, so a very happy new year to all my fellow men of culture, the bois, Mudan, Meilyne, Ashley, Nabi, Aki, Sydney, Chris, Kaho etc. Thank you to all these amazing people for making our lives just so much more fun and last but not least i hope you enjoy the next year as well! . . . . Everyone talking about having Chris on the podcast and no one realizing how tired connor looks. He looks like he just woke up and he legit just stared at something for so long 😂
Another reason that removing the dislike button is a bad idea is the fact that I used to like to imagine what most people who disliked the video actually disliked it for. Like imagine if someone was a fan of the NFT's and is like "HOW DARE YOU TALK DOWN ON MY FAVORITE HOBBY!? I SHALL DISLIKE YOU THIS INSTANT!!"
this has been a rough holiday season for me, with a new lockdown announcing itself hitting the nail in the coffin.. relaxing for a bit with the boys feels great!! Wish all the best to you guys for the next year
I've gone from listening to you guys every now and then when I need to do an odd job or two to watching every episode weekly and buying your hoodie. Thanks for making this year an absolute blast, even with the current world climate, and I can't wait to see the weird shit you guys get up to next year!
Just have to say, While I love each of your induvidual channels, Trash taste is the combined goodiness of it all, especially when Chris is involved too! those 4 are amazing personalities together.
Another issue with cryptocurrencies and NFTs is that the whole concept of crypto as an investment is set up to fuck over your average person. Cryptocurrencies are essentially just massive pump-and-dump machines set up to make certain individuals rich under the guise of it "helping everyone else". A guy invests, encourages others to invest, then sells (and fucks over all of the people he encouraged to invest). Add on top of that the power of individuals with massive influence like Elon Musk to just manipulate a cryptocurrency's value by just tweeting shit about it. It's all a massive Ponzi scheme, even if it's a Ponzi scheme that some people can benefit from in certain circumstances. Cryptocurrency itself can never be used as a real currency either for working economies, for a variety of reasons that economists will outline (like the need to locally regulate currencies and their distribution based on how that region is doing).
Anyone else use the subtitles and notice how autogenerated they feel at times? 😂 I know they have someone (or multiple people) who do subtitles because Connor mentioned it once on a stream, so it kinda sucks they don't at least try
I was meant to go to Japan this summer to take part in some research, in relation with the University of Tokyo. However because of lockdowns, I was unable to get a VISA from the embassy in London, and had to do everything online, including the weekly meetings expected had I been there in person. So yeah the long lockdowns, really messed up the research schedule.
Small detail for dishwasher is the requirement of a "full load". If you can consistently fully load your dishwasher, dishwashers are more efficient (e.g. dormitory/office kitchens). If you have a small family or don't use many dishes in general, you want to hand wash. Esp if you are conscious about your water usage (i.e. you don't fill your entire sink with water).

Thanks!
Agreed!!! It adds some happiness to the holiday 🥰🎄 Happy Christmas Eve!!!
See you in a week Chris, we all know you'll be here sporting most drip.
The king of lazy drip must return to maintain his throne: Chris Broad
1:34:55 Fun Fact: The morrocan pot joey was talking about is called a "Tajine" and it's used to cook specialized dishes with chicken, meat etc..
PS: It does not take 6hrs to cook, we do it in 2-3 hrs 😅
i thought he meant tanjia because of the 6 hours
2 to 3 hours is if you wanna get fancy normally it’s less
belatedly came to look for a comment about it so as to make it in case it weren't here , but here you are 😁
2-3 hours to cook or to prepare and cook?
I'm angry. the boys really fucked up with their comments
@@Warpath-wd4kr they filmed it before the borders closed down again, can't be too upset at an old recording.

I know they have someone (or multiple people) who do subtitles because Connor mentioned it once on a stream, so it kinda sucks they don't at least try

“Santa with muscles” is the most underrated Christmas movie of all time. Thank me later
