On the accountability of writers: I do think that writers who write about controversial topics are often challenged on then, GRR Martin included. The thing that has to be analysed is why a certain thing is being portrayed. Generally, if you portray a certain objectionable act, you can be in favour of it, against it...or it could be a joke. For example, recently there was a book where basically only the antagonists were all LGBT, and there the objectionable content is being favoured, that is easily identified as bad. When writers portray such issues to shed light on them, or to criticize something (aBoUt sOcIeTy) then that's generally seen as acceptable (in the current moral climate, I 100% agree that the bar is always shifting). The blurry line is with comedy. To what extent are you laughing at the homophobia/racism etc and to what extent are you laughing with it. And with internet humour, there's the complicating factor of to what extent are you just laughing at the absurdity of a certain thing, like with Filthy Frank. Especially outside its original context and time period, filthy Frank isn't particularly funny, which is why people take it at face value, at which it's not offering any criticism or sensible portrayal of the character. That said, it was a different time, and it's not that I think that Joji personally holds those views or should be held accountable to them, but I'd say it's certainly the right call he made to stop with it.

47:15 What Joey's saying is completely wrong. When Joji did the vid exposing himself as Filthy Frank he didn't say he hated his audience, and he even appeared as himself in a few other FF vids around that time. The details are kinda hazy, but the fanbase he had then (early 2014, before he got really popular) apparently was toxic enough to make him hide his real self again which really broke his spirits. So even though his audience changed massively as his fame grew, not just accepting of but loving the real Joji behind the scenes, that old incident really left a mark on him that never went away.

In real life people deal with feeling with being stuck/underappreciated/bored. Being underpowered is usually how this is narratively done. But in OPM, Saitama gets the exact same predicament from being overpowered. He feels stuck and bored WITH being overpowered AND is also underappreciated. THAT'S why he works, very relatable human struggles despite near opposite circumstances to reality.
