As a structural engineer I'll say: you should NOT go out of your apartment building if there's an earthquake. Your best bet is a bottom floor stairwell since they usually have thick concrete walls for fire rating and often serve as the core of the building, but practically speaking, trying to go down stairs in an earthquake isn't exactly safe or recommended. You're second best bet is to dive under a heavy table or your bed (if it's sturdy), followed by a doorway. Masonry facade buildings and those with hanging signage are notorious for falling off the exterior of the building and collapsing on people in the streets or exiting the building. There are some exceptions... If you're in a grocery store where the shelves aren't secure or you're concerned something might fall from the ceiling on you, either find a sturdy table to dive under, find a spot in the store you're not at risk, or get out (assuming it's not a masonry structure). Also, if you're in any pre-cast prestressed structure... Well... GTFO. Those pieces of junk fall down all the time in earthquakes. You can tell your apartment is one if you see big metal clips holding together big slabs of concrete. Those metal clips fatigue and fail pretty easily in an earthquake, and you'll often see after a collapse these massive pristine slabs of concrete that fell several stories to the ground crushing whatever was below.
The thing about the jeans conversation is that alot of therapist I had told me to dress myself even if I am at home because it will make me feel better. It's a form of self care.

When Conner started talking about the city that was drowned it really reminded me of the many black cities that the US did the same to. Most memorable is Seneca Village that is now under Central Park's Reservoir in New York.
Me giving a tour of my area: On your left is a field that was planted with corn. It's been harvested already so it's now dirt. On your right is a different but similar field that may be planted with beans or clover next year. On your left and right are the same fields from earlier. They are both owned by the same company. That burnt out collapsed barn was the result of a meth lab explosion. Prior to that, it was just a collapsed barn. See that $5 box fan in the ditch? That has been there for over 10 years now.
I often forget the boys aren't American, but as an American I do enjoy hearing them talk about their own cultures and others they have participated in. As someone who's grown up in small American towns they're right it's very easy to get lost in limited ways of thinking.
They dump on America every chance they get but you notice Garnt never shit talks Thailand or Thais and Conner never talks poorly of Welsh people or Wales, only England/UK generally. What is so horrible about loving your own country or thinking it's the best. I listened on Spotify and didn't watch the guys this time but it seemed like they had their noses in the air for the first third of the podcast. Being well traveled and living abroad may give you some more perspective on the world however, it doesn't make one wiser or a better person. Joey claims his AUS friends would be more open minded and have a broader mindset if they left their home towns but does he not realize Japanese people are the same. Most don't leave Japan for their entire lives except to maybe visit a SEA country or Hawaii on holiday yet he only has these criticisms of Americans. I think Garnt was trying to get Joey to realize how people have varying perspectives on things and that he didn't have the right to judge them on how they saw things but it went over Joey's head. The boys have their preconceived notions and values and they openly push those beliefs onto others subconsciously.

In regards to living in small towns here in the US... I feel like just even traveling and meeting people of different backgrounds and cultures, and learning about them, can do just as much to change someone's perspective as traveling the world. I have only left the US twice (Canada), but because I've gotten to move to a larger city, and meet people that are not like me... I have changed in some of the same ways Sydney mentioned to Garnt.
Yup, even in countries small as Netherlands the difference is quite big between the rural area where i live and, say, Utrecht Amsterdam or Leiden where you go to an University. Germany is like a mile from my home and they got already different values and ways of doing things
Ngl, I don't think a lot of countries look at America with a positive light. Because to me, what's happening in that country looks like a clown show. Of course I don't think every American are bad, faar from it, but there's some really questionable stuff going on over there. Like the healthcare situation and the gun law to name a couple. And America being "free" just makes me lol.
America has the largest diverse population in the world with each state basically running itself so it's really more complicated than what it seems on the surface to other countries. Adopting Universal Healthcare is more complicated than it seems and there are a lot of states which are run by idiots. Like just look any southern states' handle on coronavirus. When Texas had the scary ice storm and lost power for weeks (they have their own power grid) the Texas senator legit went on vacation and abandoned the state to just "figure it out" on their own. You also had Florida literally threatening teachers and suspending kids for wearing masks (and a lot of other states implementing similar policies). Some states are legit s***shows and unfortunately they're the states plastered on national and international news.
I still find it funny that people dont realize how giant America actually is. Most states are the size of a country with the population to go with it. Each with their own government and style of living. That it is almost impossible for everyone to stay connected.
Tru, but America isn't the only one like that, india, is another example. So I understand what it feels like when people generalize all the American states into one. In india, each state could me more different from the other.

Fun fact: Japan is a part of the "Pacific ring of fire" which is basically a line on the tectonic plates that goes across a big part of the globe, countries in this area tend to have a SHIT TON of earthquakes BUT also Volcanoes are really freaking abundant, Pretty unfortunate to be in this shit, I live in Chile and we literally are the Shakiest country in the world but people don't really know that cause everyone thinks about Japan lol
Yeah not be whiny but whenever the Philippines, the most hurricane prone country in the world, has a hurricane and Indonesia, the most volcanic eruption AND earthquake prone country in the world, has either a volcanic eruption or earthquake people tend to just ignore it, but whenever Japan gets hit by a fart people freak out.
The outermost part of California where I live is also part ring of fire. Me I will die from earthquakes this is fine. I live in a older majority community as well, so I am basically living in Japan in a sense 😂😂😂 (That's a joke, but if I did live in Nihon not much would change for me besides being immersed in the Japanese language.) Also, I've never had a problem with anyone here, but again I don't know if that's cause I am a nerd. Or because I don't go out as much etc. So, I say it's pretty safe (but again my friends have gotten mugged and stuff.) Get me I've never had a problem living where I live, but hopefully one day I can visit Japan.
this triggered my geography class but yes! the mantle in the earth heated up from the hot core, which allowed the mantle to expand, rise and go beneath the tectonic plates, forming convection currents. Hence, this allows the dense, oceanic philippines plate to subduct under the less dense, continental eurasian plate, this subduction driving the downward moving portion of the convection current. This convergent movement causes the continental plate to buckle and fold, forming fold mountains. Hence, this subduction causes the mantle above the subducted plate to melt, caused by the subduction of the oceanic plate. Therefore, this melted magma forms magma, which allows it to rise up the fold mountains and hence form volcanoes. When it erupts, the lava would also harden, and form a greater part of the volcano too! For earthquakes, the convergence between the plates cause friction between the plate boundaries, causing tension and pressure to build up as the plates slide past each other, allowing energy to accumulate. Hence, as the plates are unable to hold the pressure anymore, the plates slide, causing a large amount of energy to be released in the form of seismic waves, hence forming earthquakes! Japan, being along the convergent plate boundary of the Pacific Ring of Fire, causes active volcanoes and high magnitude earthquakes to form. whoops, sorry for this, i saw pacific ring of fire and i had to do this

trying to be apolitical is indeed a political choice, because what you deem apolitical is itself informed by politics. idk if I explained that well but its true. Twitter allows for no nuance, its a terrible place to try to be political.
That is like saying you are either with us or against us which completely leaves out people who are just neutral on the issue. It doesn't mean they support or oppose and they probably wouldn't care who wins in the end on it.
@@Zalzirim If enough people deem something important enough to be a political issue, it is a political issue. It's as simple as that. When you take a neutral stance on a political issue, you're still taking stance. It's less "either you're with us or against us" and more "either you think "this is important and things need to change" or you think "this is unimportant and things are fine". " Pretending the status quo is apolitical simply by virtue of being the status quo is just silly.
Joey's Big Criticism of Japan: people in Japan are apathetic to change broken systems Also Joey: "I don't care for politics... I just say 'Yeah that sucks' or 'oh that's good'"
Yeah they're absolutely part of the problem and it's worse to advocate for that on their platform as a gigantic podcast. Don't raise young men to think like this. It's not even hard if you're just worried about basics like knowing who to vote for in local elections or whatever. You don't need to live and breath a political news feed to be a force for good. I know they're not Americans but their audience is VERY American and we don't even have a left-wing. It's nothing like politics in Western Europe.
IKR ??? It's so blatantly hypocritical, they CONSTANTLY talk about Japan's politics, from simple bureaucracy to human right issues like LGBTQ+ rights and such, and then they openly admit they don't give a fuck about politics because it doesn't affect them directly? And THEN constantly joking about how privileged they are? Idk man sometimes they are so tone deaf and keep trying to excuse themselves...
Jesus, you guys, they're talking shit and have mentioned in the podcast so many times that you shouldn't take their word as gospel. They've also mentioned that even THEY can't remember a lot of things that they just talked about, chill tf out. You're blowing this way out of proportion.
@@domino1291 But bro they are saying the same shit Joe Rogan says as an excuse every single time he talks out of his ass, it's not that hard to avoid talking about politics instead of repeating over and over again every single episode that they don't care about politics because they are privileged enough to avoid getting affected by it, and then they get affected on the pettiest things and they go NUTS. Idk man it's not that hard, it set the tone for the rest of the podcast and it fucking sucks.
To be clear, I don't think Joey or anyone on the podcast is bad or anything. Just thought it was funny. I think Joey more or less is exhausted by politics, than genuinely not caring, and I think that's normal. It's an unfortunate wording, but I can intuit that Joey just understandably doesn't like dwelling on super sad politics that feel out of their hands

American news is majority negative in tone. As someone in the west living outside America, at least half or more of our news is centered around America (even moreso on the internet). Therefore, it isn't hard to believe that a lot of people's opinions are negatively shaped by the only news they hear/read about America. If I were to only listen to reddit or twitter, you would think America is a "third-world" country with the majority of people starving to death on the streets.

Yeah I live in America and that shit sucks. So many idiots who actively vote against their own self interests to help billionaires make more money.

Get me I've never had a problem living where I live, but hopefully one day I can visit Japan.
this triggered my geography class but yes! the mantle in the earth heated up from the hot core, which allowed the mantle to expand, rise and go beneath the tectonic plates, forming convection currents.

American news is majority negative in tone. As someone in the west living outside America, at least half or more of our news is centered around America (even moreso on the internet). Therefore, it isn't hard to believe that a lot of people's opinions are negatively shaped by the only news they hear/read about America. Garnt and Connor immediately cuts him off.
The nicest title of all, nice episode, nice number, nice everything.
Europe's culture as a whole really be like "Want to do something? Drink."
Which is quite weird, especially for London, they robbed half the world and put that junk in British Museum. Then complain there's nothing to do.
@@666Tomato666 As you see it's been historically proven that there is in fact fuck all to do.
@@666Tomato666 there's a tonne of shit to do in London/England/The UK that isn't to do with alcohol. Connor and Garnt just like to shit on England at every opportunity. It's getting pretty fucking tiresome
@@pickerjo2000 I have never been to England/ UK but it seems that if you aren't into museums/historical stuff there isn't a lot to do. Personally I would love to tour the UK but I am also a weird nerd obsessed with learning about history.
Watching the first couple minutes of this episode again after seeing Gigguk's Inukai video just hits different now.
just what i was thinking
saaaame
I only just started watching this video. Was just about to say that.
Crazy how Conner said that "that better happen in the next three weeks, when I'm not here" but then immediately experiences an earthquake mid-stream just a few days ago. Cosmic energies listening to Trash Taste.
The entire "getting mentioned as a small nation" felt too accurate. XD
Connor saying nice things about America. The character development on this show
That exchange between joey and connor at *4:59* is so so wholesome and cute
Garnt: "Are you guys patriotic?"
Me, a german: "I better not be."
Edit: I NEED to know what model of washing machine Joey has! I want one of those!
U don't have to be patriotic about your country's history you can be patriotic about the present
Me as an American lol
@@साहिल-ख9छ thats what the nazis in the past were doing.
No man, because with the horrific parts I admire that most Germans don't go around pretending all their history is great and awesome like many people of other countries do. You can be patriotic as long as you understand the bad parts were bad.
@@nobleststrive i dont think you understood my point i said patriotism isn't good because it could lead to what the nazis did.
"i come to trash taste to escape political nonsense" they say while turning a simple conversation about chicken into the most political content in 2021
The way they talk about knowing the outside world sounds like the plot of AOT
Hearing the boys talk about all the sorting they do with their trash makes me feel horrible; in the US or at least where I live you throw everything in the trash then just bring the bags out to the street every Friday.. the sorting system sounds so much cleaner and effective than throwing it all in a landfill 🤧
The Boys: Denmark!! happiest country!
Finland: totally forgot that we have been "the happiest country in the world" for 4 years row ;-;
Funny enough, I also saw Joey in Akihabara about a month ago. He was with a couple of other people at the time and I didn't want to bother him, but now I know where to look for him next time. Buying cultured anime.
"I feel like if somebody's willing to go to the onsen with you then they'd probably be up for anything right"
15:40 nah nha nah... us in America who isnt blindly following knows its a dumpster fire politically
Im currently debating someone on Facebook about how America isn't the greater country in the world. Now he's telling me to leave the country then. Like bro, what?!
As a Singaporean fan of Trash Taste: "WOOOOOO, THESE GUYS SAID SINGAPORE!"
Also as someone who lives in Jakarta now
lesgo lahhhh
Connor, as a Brazilian with a good mighty passport (we can visit almost the entire world without visa) , I loved Edimburgh! It has a lot of history to see and the highlands are very beautiful. And whisky! That's (up to now) my number 1 recommendation in UK! I gotta visit Wales... Met some great welsh people in Paris once (who helped me figure out my way around the trains) and it made me feel like I gotta visit Wales!
1:31:35 "I'm pretty much up for anything that doesn't involve destroying my body"
Goes to pubs often and makes a video about trying all the alcohol in Japan*
The impeccable timing of pewds arriving in Japan followed with Grants wedding coming close, meaning after the wedding we might get a guest episode with pewdiepie
