I so remember having the Airfix Short Stirling for Christmas in about 1968 when I was 12 years old. I still remember how big it seemed especially next to my Spits and 109s etc. I'd love for Mr.Airfix to give us a nice new tooled version of this kit... maybe I'd get it for Christmas 55+ years later.

Old Airfix kits are a challenge. It never deters me. I love the extras Airfix offered in regards to figures and accessories for dioramas. I started when I was about 9 years old, I guess I am nostalgic, there are many better moulded and fitting kits, but I love the memories of my childhood that Airfix represents to me. I am 64 now. I have many unfinished kits, some are so bad, I need to stop, and gain enthusiasm agian before i return to complete them. I believe written notes are enormous help when constucting, for future reference. Good video, we all have camera issues, don't be too concerned.

I like your videos a lot, because you also show the troubles that we all experience along the way.

I bought one, years ago for nostalgia reasons. I always liked the David Brown tractor and bomb trollies. Oxford Diecast make DB tractors in various liveries, including RAF Blue. One of them, and an RAF Matador flatbed, live in the box with the kit. If you need pilots - I was always fond of putting Airfix pilots in Revell kits, Matchbox pilots (which were particularly fine) into Airfix, and so on - several years ago Revell brought out a set of RAF pilots and ground crew, in hard styrene. Some people complained that they don't fit, but I've never had any problems whatsoever. I have one with an oxygen mask in the ancient and basic Airfix Hawker Typhoon Ib, and he looks superb. Likewise, the crew of my Anson has the Airfix 'Biggles' pilot (the detailed bloke with the Mae West on) flying it, and the other crew are new Revell ones. The Revell figures have separate arms and torsos, so they can be mixed and matched. I love them. There is even a figure of a bloke standing, and smoking a cigarette.

It only 'looks' orange due to Roy Cross correctly showing late evening photography. It's black....or at this scale very dark grey.

You have my sympathies with the build MM, mind you it is an old kit, originating from 1966 according to Scale mates, with no new parts, only new decals on subsequent releases.
It brings back painful childhood memories of fit issues with certain Aifix kits at the time, I seem to remember the Vertol 107's fuselage halves refusing to join properly!
It is an old kit, so perhaps the plastic has warped over the years?
Will be interested in seeing part 2 of your video.
I see Italeri do a 1/72 scale version of the Stirling, and it's a new release, so should fit together well.
Love the mix of models you make.

I want this kit so I can build it myself and redeem what I did to the one my dad built for me when I was a kid. 😓

Your video made me look at my kit, and, some parts have now had a bath in hot, and then cold water, to correct the warping. I forsee the use of small clamps and Bulldog clips during assembly. I'll be using EMA Plastic Weld, and Tamiya extra thin cement (#notspon) to assemble it. I have, in the past, when my eyesight was better, drilled out the bits where the guns fit, and replaced the barrels with small diameter hypodermic needle pieces, cut to the right length. If I have time, I might scratchbuild replacements for some of the worn out parts, like the mid-upper turret ring.

Aside from the trials and tribulations from and old kit, (10 out of 10 for persevering), the Brown 'glow' on the black paint could be the effect of a setting sun as the aircraft is prepared in the late afternoon for a night time mission, you would need to choose the view point and shine a torch from that angle to highlight the areas in ' the light' leaving the other areas black.

Not looking like an easy build. I remember a tip regarding fitting fuselage halves which was to reference off the canopy. Correcting the fit of a cockpit canopy can be difficult so at least getting that bit done helps. The idea of operating elevators and rudders seemed to be a policy with Airfix but I don't think it always came off.
