Part 4 Sturmpanzer 43 " Brummbarr" Monogram 1/32
I've found with old Airfix kits from the 60s and 70s that if I pop the warped parts in some very hot water (not quite boiling, but almost) they seem to return to their original unwarped selves.
I have this kit in my stash, as I recall Matchbox plastic was always quite hard, which is the desired property of modern kits. At the time though, 70s/ 80s, there were plenty of negative and frankly desparaging reviews
I can remember building the Comet when it was released. Don’t remember any particular issues with the build . But glue was a great “ Get Out Of Jail Card “ back then as well.
I loved those kits when i was a kid. I think that bit of terrain might be from the Anzio set by Aurora, it had some hard plastic Airfix US marines that were slightly smaller than the original Airfix. Matchbox tank kits were always a joy to build, they just seemed easier than Airfixor maybe im wearing my rose-tinted glasses.
The Hurricane is one of my favourite aircraft as well 👍
Good to see the violence is allowed back on the box art. Will we see historically accurate marked aircraft returning too?
I had exactly the same issues with my example. I actually gave up in the end, and put it back in the box. Very disappointing kit.
Tank hatches yes. Aircraft hatches no. Tanks and other AFV's look more alive if you can have crew visible. Aircraft, unless in a diorama where they are being rearmed, etc., look weird with open hatches - for me, it's a big no-no. Same with Naval planes with wings in the stowed position - I hate it - it detracts completely from the beauty of an aircraft, to my mind. It looks untidy, too.
A few years ago, my brother got me an ancient Airfix 1/72 scale Ford Trimotor as a Christmas gift. It was still sealed, and when I opened the box, the first thing I saw, was a tube of Airfix cement, in absolutely perfect condition. I was actually more thrilled at seeing that, and the Proustian rush it gave me, than the kit itself (which, unlike your 1/48 Hurri, went together beautifully, and was an absolute joy to build); I'd guess that the cement was from the early '70s, where Airfix changed the overly solvent smelling glue, which was guaranteed to give one a blinding headache, to a formulation that smelled very pleasantly of oranges, for some reason. Whatever, I'm not opening it to find out. Ever. 😆😆😆
Thank you for this. I was going to buy this for my nephew, but as you showed the fit problems, which are, to be frank, awful. The fit is bloody horrible - and on a newish kit nowadays, they shouldn't be that poor. I could correct it, but it would be insanely frustrating for an 11 year old, and I'm not that cruel. Thanks again. What paint did you use that was still tacky four days later, though? Let us know so that we can give it a swerve. Nice one 👍👍👍
I always loved making these kinds of bunkers as a kid. My way to "win" the war would be to set up the perfect defense with a bunch of these turrets in the ground, they seemed so unbeatable lol. Like a mini castle.
OMG! What a nightmare!! How will you cope!!! You are well and truly stuck! (but not sticking at the same time)..... You must somewhere have a tube from an old starter set in an unlikely place..... Where will this end......
Looks good. Maybe some weeds round the base of the concrete 🤔
Fantastic weathering looks real 🤓
Superb, really works well!!
Excellent job.....I do 00 gauge railways and I love to weather, unfortunately I don't have an airbrush,I just dry brush, and use natural materials.
I was a scared
Handsome chap he is 👍
The turrets usually have the "Rommel Box" removed, when used as static defences.
Looks good 👍
Nice model of what was often known as a 'Tobruk' - a retired tank turret mounted on a bunker. I have seen pictures of small ones, using little Renault FT-17 turrets, to larger ones that are mounting Panzer turrets, like yours, here.
The Germans borrowed the idea from the British, who dug in 28 Vickers A2 Medium Mk.II** tanks around the outer perimeter of Tobruk, as a first line anti-tank defence. They were barely effective when shooting at Italian tanks, so you can surmise how close to useless a 47mm. L.40 3 pounder gun APHE shell was against a German tank. These tanks were worn out, immobilised wrecks and were survivors of action versus the Italians in Egypt & Sudan, in 1940. They'd been superceded by A9, A10 & A13 cruiser tanks, in the North African theatre.
This looks really nice. That curve on the water pipe is really well done.
... and it's got a cobweb.
Aww Gawd. I've just looked back at this on the big screen and it's still looking messy.
Stupendo!!
I really enjoyed every minute of this video. Please do more like this if you can.
I'm glad you did. It's a bit of a departure from the norm, but I do have more planned. Thanks MM.
His work on Napoleon's Dragoons and Lancers is second to none, each subject has character and has clearly lived a life full of action and loss. Each person has history and tales to tell. His representations of mud and dust are simply sublime. The characters are all caught living a moment in time and not just posed for our viewing pleasure. The bugler with his head bandaged and traces of blood clearly visible is a work that deserves to framed and hung on a wall.
02:50: - He's got to be a King - he hasn't got shit all over him.
Well tidy Tilly,I wouldn't worry about the paint scheme,it loks ok to me.
You could always say that your Tilly had a replacement tilt from another vehicle, which is why the camouflage pattern doesn't match. I'm sure that happened for real. I can't help with the paint - I have three 1/76 Oxford Diecast Tillys, but one is all green, another is in the Caunter Scheme, and the third is in the Malta 'Dry Stone Wall' paint scheme. Sorry.
I like your approach to model making. Some people make wonderful models but it all seems too serious and competitive. I keep watching your stories and enjoy your relaxing talks.
great biplane, mine arrived but theres a catch, they dont add glue to the box so i need to buy glue and then i can complete it
Looking good, I have one of these in the pending pile and it's high time I built it, thanks for the build review.
Is this a re-upload?
I did wonder if the first upload attempt had been removed by YT for all the blue language and sexual content, but no, it's still there. Quite confusing.
Crazy seeing it in such tiny scale - I did the Tamiya version early 80's, much bigger and the wheels turned. Always wished they'd done a 1/10 R/C like the Hilux.
The original kit dated from1963 and it was excellent for its time, I built several as a boy over the years, cutting up bits of clear plastic to provide windows. I did wonder at the scale, they would have been far better in 1/72nd scale to complement the aircraft. But 1/76th was a traditional figure scale.
I suspect from your other videos that you are, like me, situated in the beautiful North East. Are you going to the Model Railway weekend at the Aln Valley Railway the weekend after next ? I hope to go and snaffle any bargains as well as looking at the. layouts.
Well tidy Tilly,Tamiya does some nice kits.
Is that an Austin or a Standard 'Tilly'? Generally, the Army used the Austin, and the RAF used the Standard.
Nice kit and result, going to have to get one now!! Thanks for the fascinating history and what a horrendous early battle and foretaste of what was to come later. Look forward to seeing what you do for the base.
Where are the images of the restored model ?!
That's a great finish you've achieved there. German grey is a challenging colour-scheme because without the fading/modulation on the panels etc. it can look too much like a toy (a mistake I made when I under-weathered my 1/16th Full option RC Tiger). However, you've got a perfect result here, especially when the sunlight catches it :)
I can remember building this kit in the sixties when I was ten, it was a present at a children's Christmas party, I kid you not! As far as I am concerned it was the best party present ever, lol. Thanks for a very nostalgic build, the ten year old in me loved it.
I think I'd have used silicon grease to lubricate the moving parts - I have a feeling that UtBut might go rancid over time. I had this model, in it's original form, when I was a kid. A teacher at school was utterly appalled that such a thing should exist - I had brought the box top and instructions to prove to another kid that I had one; brought back from a trip by an uncle who was in the Merchant Navy, and who could be relied upon to bring me weird cool stuff he had found abroad. I do remember that the actual guillotine blade that ensured that Marie Antoinette never needed to buy any more hats, used to be on display in the now sadly closed 'Chamber Of Horrors' in Madame Tussauds. The only real reason to visit the damn place, in my opinion. 😆😆😆
Nice paint job...l believe the reddish guillotine is in Bruges Belgium.. Which I paint my one on..
He has got a yellow face and a bit of green coming out of his uniform. Are you sure it is not yellow fever or dysentery
Still a cracking set; copmplete with crew as well!
Amazing job on the tiger 1
Amazing results on the t34/76
Great job on the m41 walker bulldog
