I honestly think The Division’s Dark Zone was the best version of an extraction shooter for casual wide appeal. It’s not as punishing as most games where you lose everything. Instead you only lose what you loot in the zone and not your equipped gear. I think if Bungie really wants to capture the biggest audience they need to lean towards this kind of approach.
@@bonnuuoq also if you did a deep dive of the lore of the series with this kinda editing style it would literally be so interestin, what inspired you to edit like this ?
Bungie's art team is has been one of the few constants this last decade of Destiny, they always deliver even when the rest of the package is undercooked. With Marathon they are flexing hard it seems, very curious how it will look in-game.
@@EatThePath-7 kinda hope it doesn’t look like destiny, I feel like a good amount of the game should be that marathon early halo super industrialist facilitates or what ever along with the new freaky white people
The art is cool and the music is certainly good so there are things that will still be worth checking out regardless. That being said, the whole "Even if it sucks I'm gonna buy it" mentality is why we get stuff that sucks. We should make our concerns known, loud and clear. Ideally it would be like how people memed Sonic's design before the movie came out and got them to redesign it. We should be pushing for them to have an amazing campaign like Halo and Marathon before, we should make it clear that fans want the original developers to work on it because they have the best idea of what the franchise they made is all about. And to be honest, I think that if they aren't actually going to respect or recapture what Marathon was then they shouldn't be making it at all, they can still make a game in this art style, with this music and these ideas that is heavily based on Marathon, but if they don't care about what the franchise was then they shouldn't make it. Just use all the assets and call it something else, It'd also give them more freedom to explore other ideas they are more suited for, to me, that would be vastly better than using a franchise for name recognition and sales when you don't even respect it enough to have it's creators work on it, creators who probably weren't too crazy about it becoming an extraction shooter anyway. Also, modern Bungie and 343 just ain't what they used to be, most of the people quit or were fired, not sure they are even able to create the games they used to.

I just watched the entire vid and I gotta say it’s like you’re channeling bungies art direction, and i absolutely love that, been thirsting for news/any coverage of Marathon since the trailer and this scratches that itch
Your editing style is such a breath of fresh air. Truly such an enjoyable and entertaining watch. You deserve my sub! Keep making great stuff like this.
You know why right? Because they lied to us about Lightfall and then the whole studio went into panic mode when TFS was shown off. So all resources, including the Marathon team, and the secret Destiny 3 team were all brough back onto D2. Everything around Marathon went silent because they game wasn't being made for the last six months to a year. That and if they talked about Marathon it would just cause more anger in the Destiny comunity due to our neglect.
As an og Halo player who has followed Bungie everywhere, I can still say I'm reserving any optimism for after I play it for myself. I can’t trust Bungie has their priorities straight if you catch my drift.
Another great vid!! I love to see someone making such good content around this game. I watched the trailer and like you said it blew me away, I just loved the soundtrack they used and the style is beautifull. Thank you for making these great vids and reminding me about this game, cant wait for the next vid!

I love this dude. I love extraction shooter but espically sci fi. This is perfection. The moment i watched the first trailer i was like wow. I got so deep into the lore of marathon. It feels like im in a movie trying to figure everything out. I love how bungie is secretive. But i do wish to hear news. I am so excited, most anticipated game ever. Keep it up dude, you’re gonna be entertaining me for a while.
I’m still all in given the art direction and the music. I’m hoping the theory that the “heroes” are more or less pre-fab runner templates or frames that while somewhat locked in are controlled by “you” from off planet. If they had a good number of these runner templates and grew to a large roster over time (like a Warframe model) that would be a nice happy medium between typical heroes and 100% custom characters like Destiny.
Your enthusiasm reminds me of myself, back when the first Destiny was all but a whispers. I really hope the level of passion you're showing for the game is reciprocated on it's quality, but i can't say i feel the same way about Bungie now 10+ years later, and this new Marathon being an extraction hardly peaks my interest at all.
That's fair enough, I am fairly fond of extraction shooters as I've played alot of Rust, and love pvp. From the quality we saw from the ARG im in high hopes but also cautious
It seems odd to me that Bungie is using the Marathon IP for this game because it doesn't seem particularly fitting. Potential spoilers for a nearly 30-year-old game trilogy. The original Marathon trilogy is a deeply religious story about the ascent to godhood. The first game starts with a simple, Halo-like premise of a human ship being attacked by an alien race of conquerors and slavers-the Pfhor-that you attempt to, but ultimately fail to, save. That's really just a veneer for what the story is about, though. This game tackles complex themes of consciousness, intelligence, the ontology of humanity, transhumanism, and one's own will vs. determinism. Before the eventual destruction of the ship, itself named Marathon, the AI Durandal captures a Pfhor ship and repurposes it for his interests. This leads you into the second game where you do a lot of archeological digging of sorts in search for ancient mythological information. In the process, a primordial creation god gets released and all sorts of craziness happens. This eventually leads you into the third game which is, to put simply, a bit of a fever dream. In no way can I summarize games 2 or 3 shortly. The overarching narrative pulls heavily from various world mythologies and attempts to put forth its own ideas about existence, creation, the transcendent, and the possibility of becoming a god. There is some heavy influence from esoteric religions, particularly gnosticism with the idea of reality being a prison that one must free themselves from. Thematically, the game rejects the idea of man (or AI) being separate from god and that godhood is an attainable status. Mind you, this is all done from the perspective of a rather simple 90s first-person shooter (then-called "Doom Clone"). Despite the depth of the story and the complexity of the themes it tackles, the way it's told is incredibly awkward, with the majority of information being obscured through disconnected and convoluted conversations/monologues, symbolism, and literary and mythological references. Calling it both impenetrable and inelegant would be generous (there are a lot of points where it feels pretentious). If we compare that to what Bungie has shown us so far, you can understand why I'm perplexed at their choice. The original trilogy was a single player, narrative-driven experience first and foremost, with the multiplayer elements being secondary. Likewise, the game itself is rife with 90s trends, such as labyrinthine level design, unfair and rather dick-ish enemy encounters, and navigation puzzles. While we haven't seen what the gameplay looks like yet, my suspicion is that it's not going to be similar at all (especially given the aesthetic differences so far). I enjoy the originals for what they are and I'd love to see them be remade with a lot of the narrative issues ironed out. Whatever it is that Bungie is making doesn't appear to be close to that, however, and I'd rather they not use the Marathon IP for it.
Great points and summarisation. I'm not sure if you know, but Jason Jones, who wrote the original games, is working on the new one. The game aesthetic is different because it has to be, When you have an art team as talented as bugies, it would be boring and much more uninteresting if they attempted to replicate a 30 year old style. in saying that I still love the old aesthetic, but the new is just so beautiful, Thanks for your comment!
@@bonnuuoq For sure. I'm not worried about aesthetic differences, but they are a possible sign for other changes. If the game ends up being wholly different from the original Marathon series, it would make more sense to launch it as a new IP (and I'd even say it would be easier to market and more financially successful). We'll see where it goes, for better or worse.
I hope the best for this game. Currently does not exist a multiplatform extraction shooter with this potential (this could combine a fun gameplay loop + incredibple gunplay like destiny's gunplay feel + absolute beautiful art style + interesting and misterious lore). Even if the rumors about the hero class system are true, hope that the devs will work hard to create a banger of a game.
Marathon is a game I know next to nothing about in truth, but ever since the very first reveal trailer came out, the sheer style of marathon alone has lead me to following and eagerly awaiting more information about the game and I have only gotten more excited with everything ive seen. The fact a newly made channel with only 138 subcribers to its name has managed to produce concise, informative content all while keeping up with the style of marathon in the editing is absolutely insane. I will definitely be looking out for any new content from your channel, keep it up!
Damn, thank you so much! and yes, I agree. Marathons' artsytle is truly unique and beautiful, and that will be the focus of my next video! again, thankyou!
I am really looking forward to this one, I am old so I played the original back in the day on a Mac of all things... I really hope they pull of a good game, it does look so good. (good vid by the way)
I really hope we can see gameplay soon, I just hope it's not going to be turned into a hero shooter like the rumors seem to believe. I've never found extraction shooters interesting, but this might do it for me
Bonn you are hitting high and striking hard! Thank you, I noted a couple months ago that all the folks that covered Destiny lore had practically dropped Marathon. But you, someone who is equally as hyped as me and hundreds of others in this community, have shown great promise in just being the coolest thing ever. I’ve been wanting someone to cover the lore and the ARG of the new promotions and the tie together everything we have so far. Thank you, I as many others will eagerly await your next video!
@@bonnuuoq that would be amazing; I remember I took a peek at a Google doc from I think the whole legitimate community that was located somewhere in the reddit? I’m not sure but it was practically a digitized version of the Paris catacombs. (Though it wasn’t specific as to if it was for the new rendition or the old Marathon games, or perhaps both. It was just a lot of pages) Edit: Found it! I’m gonna leave it here, though I wouldn’t be surprised if you already found it- docs.google.com/document/d/1M4iwWZGP6-uAnPk89B_kbnKA5i3laB0ITtJ79g0ySco/edit
I would love if they also released some DLC of story, maybe remakes or the OG trilogy. It’d be okay if the lore is on maps and isn’t said explicitly like the original games. I just want to be able to bring people in years later and have them be able to experience the lore in game rather than whatever destiny did and PLEASE no seasonal stories that feel necessary for the plot (looking at destiny again for that)
I dont think Marathon will be a hero shooter. I think we will have the 4 biomata model from the ARG to choose from. They all have different aspects. A and B can be customized more, like more perks or implants. C is just more tanky and the S series is more agile. I have some hope left for the character customization they mentioned.
You share my thoughts exactly, I do wonder weather we will have to buy/unlock them or just choose. I feel like it would be a great way to motivate players to level up, mabey the higher level players will be able to customise more? we will see... eventually
Let's not forget, its not a pve game its a extraction shooter no campaigns, or story, its basically bungie's tarkov - extraction shooters are a niche genre and most of destiny 2 are pve players, so it's either gonna be a hit like tarkov and compete or die out due to lack of players like some other extraction shooters
I share the concerns about it being an extraction shooter (PvPvE isn't for me, I hope it'll have PvP and singleplayer/coop PvE in addition to PvPvE). But, I'm especially concerned about it being a live service. Destiny 1 and 2 have become a nightmare (i.e. impossible) if you want to play them straight through and experience the full story and setting, with content being locked to specific dying consoles, but especially losing access to DLC you paid for because it has gone off to the Content "Graveyard" Vault. Unless you've kept up with playing Destiny content as soon as it is released, you've likely missed a bunch you'll never be able to experience now. Given the love put into Destiny, its gameplay, story, setting, and lore and how great some of the content was, I can't understand that decision and it feels like such a slap in the face to the developers, writers, voice actors, and artists who created the content and the players who enjoyed it or want to enjoy it still. The original Marathon trilogy and Halo games were masterpieces, not only amazing games, but indelible parts of lives and friendships. Imagine if those pieces of culture were lost to history and unplayable due to corporate greed? I hope they think about that and provide an offline option and don't sunset seasonal content. But, I'm none too hopeful with what Bungie has become in recent years.
I totally get that, I think a good sign is that destiny and marathon are completely differnt games, I'm not sure how new content will even release but I sort of doubt that they will do the same thing at all, not only did they receive backlash it was just a bad decision
@@bonnuuoq I sincerely hope you are right! Just because they are different names and different games doesn't mean the company has learned. I think it is a bad sign they haven't walked back any of those bad decisions with Destiny 2 but have doubled down. Destiny was built as a live service from the ground up so I understand to an extent they'd backed themselves into a corner (Live Service is a monster that feeds on engagement, which is a fickle thing, they can save costs by restricting content while simultaneously driving engagement with the threat of 'play it before its gone'). They are touting Marathon as "The Ultimate Live Service" in interviews which doesn't bode well, instead it sounds like they are tripling down on the decisions made with Destiny and determined to make it also be an engagement machine. Microtransactions, short lived seasonal content, events, relying on player FOMO to drive revenue, always online, drip-feed service life cycle, these are all tools in the arsenal of maintaining a greedy live service engagement model that I contend is fundamentally anti-player, treating them more like addicts more than discerning customers. I think this latest idea of dangling an opportunity to become a "part of history" in the game is the latest attempt at this. Its a cool idea, but IMHO doesn't require the rest of the live service ideas. No Man's Sky manages to do the same thing with players getting credit for discoveries, but also featuring offline play options. There is some hope since they did abandon loot boxes in Destiny due to general player backlash across the industry (and gambling concerns). So, perhaps if there is enough general outcry against the live service model they may change their tune.
Idk much bout extraction games but I hope marathon brings something unique to the extraction shooter genre, maybe even build a sort of hybrid genre, bringing their knowledge from destiny, I'm thinking something along the lines of a looter/extraction shooter. With what I know I feel a sole extraction shooter may get boring quick with the limited content. But if there's a mix of that pvp and and pve narrative aspect intertwined, that's something cool. Like having the ability to do public raids or missions without traditional rules. It might suck have other players intervene in ur playthroughs but that's the ruthless nature of extractions right? I just hope there is content from looter shooters giving u the ability to highly costumize ur characters because one thing this games has going for it are the vibes. This has the opportunity to be a massive multi-genre melting pot of coolness, or just an esthetically pleasing tarkov, I pray for the former.
@wholesome3759 Yes totally! I agree, I honestly don't believe that they will stick to the traditional gameplay loop of something Ike tarkov, instead I think the story, pve and things like the artefacts will have a larger role to play rather than just loot.
We had LAN parties in the 90s playing Marathon Infinity. Some of the best memories I have as a kid. It's hard to explain how ahead of its time this game was. It was honestly incredible and was a commercial and critical hit.
I love this trailer too, but I'm still going to hold some skepticism until we see gameplay. Almost every AAA attempt at extraction shooters has been average at best.
I much prefer the classic Marathon art style and also would've prefer having a campaign than an extraction shooter. However I am still interested on what kind of story it can tell.
Well twenty years of watching Jadex struggle and fail to get their Wilderness( there version of extraction like mode) working doesn't give much hope that the "extraction" idea in it's current form has much potential for success. And lets not forget how the loot system like MMO have been dealing with for longer then I've been alive creates a natural unwelcoming game where the few that started early just have an advantage that only creates endless problems stacking on top of each other.
I REALY love the artstyle and direction of this game, but I am not sure about the genre they picked. We had a TON of PVP extraction shooters fail and I honestly would have rather seen a new coop game then the next PVP title.
I love OG Marathon, but I'm not too crazy on the idea of it becoming an extraction shooter. If it gets a single player campaign, then I'll love it. And hopefully Bungie doesn't ban players for just using Linux like they did with Destiny 2...
as a marathon old head. i am very worried about the shift in genre mostly. i also fear it will be hard to experience the game story in full as a MMO. but I am very happy to see marathon back into the spot light. but I also worry if it not successful they will pull the plug on it. but I also fear it going to do be triple AAA buggy mess like battle field 2042. but if it does go hero shooter than imma be super sad. plus even with old people on the dev team bungie is kinda like the ship of theseus, hard to say current bungie is the same people who made halo and marathon all those years ago. other wise this is my rambling comment. side note your video was very well edited and made so good job man :D
Thankyou! I am also a bit cautious about buggyness and stuff like that, personally I am a fan of extraction shooters (if done right) which I don't think we have had yet. definitely a good idea to stay cautiously optimistic until we see gameplah
I'm just going to be honest here... I don't have any expectations for this game to have anything to do with, well, Marathon. It feels like a stranger wearing a Marathon costume, at best. When I was 15, I was curious what inspired Halo, and to my surprise, everything that is Halo started out as Marathon... not to be taken lightly, Marathon walked so Halo could run. Not long after, I always wore the security armor (when available, mind you) in future Halo games, even going so far as to attempt to cosplay the mysterious cyborg security officer whose appearances throughout artwork and sprites are the single most inconsistent I have ever seen a video game character depicted, a testament to the series' mystery. Regardless, haha, I had (and still have) a strong sense of pride about those old Marathon games, as there's nothing quite like them. I think it's simply an era too long ago to be fully brought back (Admittedly I was too young to have played the games when they came out); the trailers, artwork, and proposed gameplay do not instill me with confidence. I don't really know why the name marathon has even been chosen, as the game feels similar to its predecessor in name only. If it was an actually new game, with a new name, I wouldn't have such reservations.
Another sick video, your style reminds me of youtube guys like Ahoy and LEMMiNO, chill atmosphere and high quality editing. I recommend checking them out, maybe get some inspiration too🐛
Uness there is a singleplayer campaign, Then I will most definately not be playing this. The OG trilogy is a mainly singleplayer experience, and when I learned that it was gonna be an extraction shooter, I was pissed
@@bonnuuoq its not that I dont like extraction shooters, it’s just that I am a fan of the OG Marathon trilogy, and to see it being turned from a narrative singleplayer Fps to a Pvp extraction shooter just kinda breaks my heart is all. This game so far just seems to be using the name Marathon as branding is all
Let's just hope it isn't more AAA slop. That's all I'll say. I doubt a company like Bungie could (or would even want to) do something new or shake things up
@@bonnuuoq I'm afraid they feel that if they want success, they need to play it safe, especially with so many studios closing and live services starting to fail/become huge cost sinks
NGL, reading that it would be an extraction shooter was a huge boner killer for me. I started the franchise late like 3 months after Halo 3's release. Learned about Marathon, Myth, and ONI during that time, and I "borrowed" the games. Was blown away how fun the gameplay and the enemy variety was too (on the topic of Marathon). I hated reading but I was really hooked to the lore and writing style of the series. Also, Myth 1/2 were something. The gameplay was brutal for my two braincells but winning felt really really good. And I had no expectation of ONI for its "Americanime" looks but the third person Tekken inspired combat was fun and the story was intriguing that I felt like it was more than a GitS clone. Now jump to September 9, 2014, I was so hyped to play Destiny 1 but after I finished the main game, I was pretty disappointed. I played it on the 360 but I don't think that even matters since the game was barebones, and the grind was just too unfun. Never bothered with any of the future DLCs or even touch 2 because why should I pay more for more content? it was $60 at launch and the DLCs were like $15-20, which I didn't wanna fork over. I'm overly cautious about new Marathon since I believe Bungie lost their shine after Halo Reach, my personal dislike of extraction shooters (i.e. vanilla Tarkov), and the Online focused nature of modern gaming that prioritizes dumping tons of "cosmetics" than "content" (i.e. Halo Infinite for a long time). If anyone is interested, you can download Marathon 1/2 for free on Steam, and Infinite is coming soon. If you don't want it on steam, AlephOne is a good place to download all three games AND some mods, since the games are Freeware (according to Wiki) Simpl1city is a great website to download mods for the games too. I got the Offline Bots mod and Survival Mode similar to the one on Xbox 360 Arcade.
@FightCain I personally don't find Markov very fun. It's far too hard core, and not fun for the mainstream audiences. I hope the marathon will change that completely, and I think the game could be really good and an interesting expansion on the lore of the originals
@@bonnuuoq I honestly find Tarkov much better as a single player experience (i played on a borrowed account with the SP mod). I too hope that Bungie would reconsider the game's structure to be more SP focus with MP as a bonus feature, rather than MP focused.
I really hope that Hero thing is just a rumor, cuz I truly believe that would ruin the game. IMO the hero shooter and extraction shooter genres are somewhat antithetical, and mixing the two would simply compromise the design.
@@bonnuuoq me too, it's a fascinating concept, and the art is gorgeous, it'll be a damn shame if it doesn't at least give the artists an impressive resume
As happy as I am seeing Marathon come back, I don't think this is the style of game they should be trying to bring back Marathon with. They should go back to their roots and first make a two part Marathon 3 to continue where Marathon 2 left off, then make another Infinity / What-If scenario spin off of Marathon 3 that also gives the fans level editing / creation software, all before trying to drop this extraction shooter. Basically, they need to rebuild the fan base for this IP before trying to go with this extraction shooter they're trying to make, in my opinion.
I'm glad you're excited. just temper those. Destiny players used to get cool ARG's and secrets. Now we get a trailer the day of (actually hour before) the realease of a piece of content. Bungie have prevented any future hype for anything they make. That and with the leaks surrounding Marathon, they may have already ruined it.
I mean... It does make sense to turn this IP's sprawling FPS campaign with a complicated story mostly told through world building into an extraction shooter. Bungie does seem to be the studio to do it. I'm not hyped though. PVP extraction shooter just seems like... like they gotta do something different and understand who they're selling the game to for that genre. You can't make a hardcore PVP game for everyone. Casuals don't like it. They got a couple paths - I don't think they should blunt the edges of PVP. Maybe Quasimorph solo contracts can give the casuals something to enjoy. I don't know. Seems like things could go either way.
Things definitely could! I think that they are aware of how they will need to insert themselves in the market. There's alot of talented people working on it and hopefully they can do something cool!
Good point, however, this game will feature characters like Durandal, leela, etc. I think marathon will not only build upon the existing ones but open up future opportunities for experiences like the original games. if it succeeds, that is!
@@bonnuuoq Still no reason why they are rehashing the name of a game they made that no one remembers. Don't get me wrong, its a cool franchise and a good game but I'm baffled why they'd adapt a name for such a different game from a linear singleplayer shooter from the 90s into an extraction shooter.
Usually im all for hating games rehashing old IP's but with this type of stuff its building on a universe that would otherwise be lost too time a majority of the audience has probably never even heard of the name and i assume the only reason youre quick too hate is because your parroting the opinions based of genral ideas of the public with no actual reasoning yourself
If its a PVPVE Extraction shooter, fuck no. Its so frustrating losing everything you had from either cheaters, campers or just people who no-lifed the game harder than you.
Yeah, I love Destiny and it's my favorite game atm but mainly because the PvE is so good. I'd be down to play Marathon but not if its pvp focused. Pvp is fine but nobody does PvE quite like Bungie. They're great at both but there's no other game like destiny when it comes to raids and everything, give us more of that.
@@acoustic_. Gunplay does not make up for the frustration. The gunplay won't feel so good when you just have worse bullets than the armor of your enemy and they take 40 rounds while they shoot one shot and kill you instantly.
Let's be frank and tell the viewers: thanks to Bungie's last year fuck up with the Destiny 2 DLC: Lightfall and the impressive incompetence of the leadership at Bungie this game was almost canceled. If Destniy 2 won't bring the numbers, this game will be canceled.
@clethcriss6258 I think it's far too long in development now to be cancelled, and if anything, the success of the final shape definitely would have given the higher-ups reassurance.
@@bonnuuoq Bonn I respect your enthusiasm about the game and I'm honestly wish we will able the play this game and it to be awesome. But. And there is a huge ass but. As the latest news about Bungie and the projects they working on is not to promising. About the "far too long in development" theory: we saw shit tons of promising games to end up in the trash bin. Normally it would be right, but after the acquisition Sony can pull the plug of any projects if they are not convinced of its success. Anyway I would like to drive your interest towards Forever Winter. Different vibe for sure, but may you will find it's beauty as I did. Still, I hope the bast for Marathon. Bungie gave so much joy and awe with Destiny, I'm more than interested in any other universe they create.
I think they deleted the vidoc because it prominently features Chris Barret. He’s a bad person that’s attracting a lot of negative attention that could hurt the game and Bungie as a company so they’re probably scrubbing him from everything they can

Also, modern Bungie and 343 just ain't what they used to be, most of the people quit or were fired, not sure they are even able to create the games they used to.

Goddamn. That's quite the intro.
Glad someone is talking about this game still, feel like Bungie announced this and then everything went still and cold

I love this idea, if the game is actually even similar to the trailer I will love it
Production quality in your vids are amazing, subbed

I would love if they also released some DLC of story, maybe remakes or the OG trilogy. It’d be okay if the lore is on maps and isn’t said explicitly like the original games. I just want to be able to bring people in years later and have them be able to experience the lore in game rather than whatever destiny did and PLEASE no seasonal stories that feel necessary for the plot (looking at destiny again for that)
If it is hero shooter or is reduced to a selectable cast... Count me out

I feel like it would be a great way to motivate players to level up, mabey the higher level players will be able to customise more? we will see... eventually
I’M SO STOKED
Let's not forget, its not a pve game its a extraction shooter no campaigns, or story, its basically bungie's tarkov - extraction shooters are a niche genre and most of destiny 2 are pve players, so it's either gonna be a hit like tarkov and compete or die out due to lack of players like some other extraction shooters
This game definitely will have a story, just not a campaign, you'll have to search for the story through terminals like the original games
Amazing video. Good shit
We had LAN parties in the 90s playing Marathon Infinity. Some of the best memories I have as a kid. It's hard to explain how ahead of its time this game was. It was honestly incredible and was a commercial and critical hit.

I much prefer the classic Marathon art style and also would've prefer having a campaign than an extraction shooter. However I am still interested on what kind of story it can tell.
Now barrett is fired :)
@Zebris0 He was fired month ago with good reason
Well twenty years of watching Jadex struggle and fail to get their Wilderness( there version of extraction like mode) working doesn't give much hope that the "extraction" idea in it's current form has much potential for success. And lets not forget how the loot system like MMO have been dealing with for longer then I've been alive creates a natural unwelcoming game where the few that started early just have an advantage that only creates endless problems stacking on top of each other.
@SpottedHares Extraction shooters typically have a wipe cycle or something to reset everyone to the same level after a certain time.
looks exactly like the cycle frontier
To me the cycle frontier was much more grungy and much less interesting
I REALY love the artstyle and direction of this game, but I am not sure about the genre they picked. We had a TON of PVP extraction shooters fail and I honestly would have rather seen a new coop game then the next PVP title.
I love OG Marathon, but I'm not too crazy on the idea of it becoming an extraction shooter. If it gets a single player campaign, then I'll love it. And hopefully Bungie doesn't ban players for just using Linux like they did with Destiny 2...

This game should have been called oni… it is literally pulling art direction from oni

Now jump to September 9, 2014, I was so hyped to play Destiny 1 but after I finished the main game,
I was pretty disappointed. I played it on the 360 but I don't think that even matters since the game was barebones, and the grind was just too unfun.
Never bothered with any of the future DLCs or even touch 2 because why should I pay more for more content? it was $60 at launch and the DLCs were like $15-20,
which I didn't wanna fork over.
I'm overly cautious about new Marathon since I believe Bungie lost their shine after Halo Reach,
my personal dislike of extraction shooters (i.e. vanilla Tarkov),
and the Online focused nature of modern gaming that prioritizes dumping tons of "cosmetics" than "content" (i.e. Halo Infinite for a long time).
If anyone is interested,
you can download Marathon 1/2 for free on Steam, and Infinite is coming soon.
If you don't want it on steam, AlephOne is a good place to download all three games AND some mods, since the games are Freeware (according to Wiki)
Simpl1city is a great website to download mods for the games too.
@@bonnuuoq
I honestly find Tarkov much better as a single player experience (i played on a borrowed account with the SP mod).

Basically, they need to rebuild the fan base for this IP before trying to go with this extraction shooter they're trying to make, in my opinion.
intro music too hard
I'm glad you're excited. just temper those. Destiny players used to get cool ARG's and secrets.
Now we get a trailer the day of (actually hour before) the realease of a piece of content.
Bungie have prevented any future hype for anything they make.
That and with the leaks surrounding Marathon, they may have already ruined it.
I hope they have learned from some of their mistakes, likely decisions due to bad leadership unfortunately

@LyNx3n1x That is only a rumour, just because he worked on a hero shooter doesn't necessarily mean he's going to make it a hero shooter.
Why is it even called Marathon though? It sounds and looks completely different.
Good point, however, this game will feature characters like Durandal, leela, etc. I think marathon will not only build upon the existing ones but open up future opportunities for experiences like the original games. if it succeeds, that is!

@@beeman4266I agree, but the gunplay in pvp is the best feeling shooting on the market, so I feel like this game could be great.
@@acoustic_. Gunplay does not make up for the frustration. The gunplay won't feel so good when you just have worse bullets than the armor of your enemy and they take 40 rounds while they shoot one shot and kill you instantly.
@@arieson7715 yep, hoping marathon doesn’t go the tarkov armor penetration route. Literally the worst thing to implement in a competitive game.
Bungie gave so much joy and awe with Destiny, I'm more than interested in any other universe they create.
bro where the fuck is this game? they just dropped a hard ass trailer and left... then they deleted the video where they talked about the game
I think they deleted the vidoc because it prominently features Chris Barret. He’s a bad person that’s attracting a lot of negative attention that could hurt the game and Bungie as a company so they’re probably scrubbing him from everything they can
yeah i dont think its anything too deep, i cant imagine they would want to have that up with it featuring him
they are cooking
so, sci fi tarkov?
Yeah pretty much
Just curoius, are you getting paid by bungie to do these videos?
nope
