Maybe they could modify the story of Marathon, so that it takes place in the Halo universe, and add in some stuff from that game into the Halo games(besides the Security helmet and other easter eggs).
They should do full 3D remakes of the trilogy ROTT 2013, Doom 4 & Doom Eternal style with a full 3D remake of Marathon Eternal as an expansion pack for Infinity’s one, followed by a proper Marathon 4. (Incidentally, Halo 1 was actually going to be Marathon 4 in a very early alpha story that has long been scrapped and Eternal was based on that version of Halo) Full level editing software as well like they did with the original Vulcan games (but a lot more user friendly than their Aleph One counterparts).

Growing up, my dad worked with a guy who did level design for Marathon Durandal and Infinity. Small world, and how I was able to get exposed to this brilliant series at such a young age! Very cool videos man, this game needs time in the spotlight again!
I'm a little disappointed that you didn't mention that the entire Marathon Trilogy was made free by Bungie and can be played on modern PCs easily, but I love the video otherwise!

10:18 As a kid who grew up in an apple mac household and who would only get to play games at my PC owning friends houses....... this scene right here was something i replayed hundreds of time in the demo that shipped on a floppy disk on the front of a MacWorld magazine one month. I remember doing chores to get some money together and then phoning up to order this game. It was the first summer where i dedicated time to just playing through a video game........ magical.
Oh man I remember countless hours running around trying to figure out how to beat various levels. I'd play with a friend, we'd be taking notes, constantly having to discuss and debate what to do, where to go, etc.
All three games were made free in 2005, and the current Aleph One engine makes them playable on many modern systems. They’ve even been ported to iOS. They should also be really easy to pick up and play, since Marathon was the first game to introduce modern mouse look controls in a shooter.

As a Mac gamer, this is basically what I had. I remember getting the “games of fame” cd that had Warcraft 1, pathways, marathon, and some other games. Marathon really drew me in with its moody atmosphere, sound design and aesthetics. Seriously has one of my favorite machine guns in any game

my buddies and I used to play Marathon at our Mac Lab at UIUC back in 1994/1995. It was awesome because you could invite other folks on the network (dorms/etc.) and do multiplayer.
It's worth mentioning here that Marathon, Marathon: Durandal, and Marathon Infinity are all currently available on iPhone and iPad. If nothing else it's a trip into the history of FPS game design at that time (not to mention a nostalgia trip for those of us who played the heck out of it at the time), and insight into the origins of concepts that would migrate their way into the Halo games. Of course, if you really want to see where the roots of Halo came from, both Marathon and the MYTH games had many elements that evolved into what became Halo.
Succinctly the best Marathan recap for beginners on youtube, though you could and should absolutely elaborate on the plot and the impact of of the emergent storytelling, and the legacy of every Bungie game involving an AI

So did some research it looks like we will be playing as Cybernetic Individuals on the City of TAU, that City the Marathon Ship was heading towards. And given the state of the moon I will wager that the Aliens and occupying and the citizens commissioned the ‘Runners’ to combat the Aliens and acquire lost tech to aid in the Resistance. However humanity is not unified in this regard, which is why teams of runners fight each other for the artifacts. I’m excited to see how this game will turn out.
The theme to the 2nd one was amazing. I loved that I could put the Marathon 2 disk into any CD player, skip the first track and that amazing theme would play...

Man this brings me back. It started for me with the first game in the mid 90s. As the years went on it got better and better, one year I got the Marathon Trilogy Boxset for Christmas. My mom was the best. The boxset let you design your own levels as well, it was jam packed.

During my job in publishing house at 1994 played some Mac specific games. Pathways Into Darkness turned out awfully hard and due to permanent dark fog kinda depressing. Never finished it. But Marathon was a blast. Then employer business bankrupted and was able to finish the rest of trilogy after 15 years as Aleph One. It was still good. Marathon trilogy certainly need a proper remake. It would be a blast again. I remember original artwork and intermission screens - on decent engine views will be not less spectacular than in Halo MCC.
I am looking forward to the M2 and Infinity retrospective. Thanks for bringing some attention to Marathon. The game seriously needs a reboot, maybe with the intended original Marathon story.
Excited to see your take on Oni. It's like a caricature of everything 2001. The cringy American anime aesthetic of the early 2000's combined with The Matrix while also having interesting gameplay mechanics was like a recipe for chaos but it somehow worked really well.

My niche opinion. If Marathon got brought back, rebooted, remade, whatever... Joel Nielsen would be perfect for an updated vibe and soundtrack I feel. For those who don't know he did the soundtrack for Black Mesa, the rather impressive fan remake of Half-Life. A lot of good heart and emotion in them, and one track in particular (Questionable Ethics 1) got me curious about how Joel would handle a song like the Durundal Theme
The original Marathon was the game that got me into gaming. Sure, I played the Mario games and such before that but didn't have the same level of interest in gaming that I've had since.

Oh yeah, it could be said it's the first of the FPS Genre and not just Doom clones which are now known as Classic FPS games.

Marathon was siiiiiiiiiiick. Never finished any if em, but the story was soo good.
My niche opinion. If Marathon got brought back, rebooted, remade, whatever... Joel Nielsen would be perfect for an updated vibe and soundtrack I feel. For those who don't know he did the soundtrack for Black Mesa, the rather impressive fan remake of Half-Life. A lot of good heart and emotion in them, and one track in particular (Questionable Ethics 1) got me curious about how Joel would handle a song like the Durundal Theme

The original Marathon was the game that got me into gaming. Sure, I played the Mario games and such before that but didn't have the same level of interest in gaming that I've had since.
