Oh man I remember countless hours running around trying to figure out how to beat various levels. I'd play with a friend, we'd be taking notes, constantly having to discuss and debate what to do, where to go, etc.

So did some research it looks like we will be playing as Cybernetic Individuals on the City of TAU, that City the Marathon Ship was heading towards. And given the state of the moon I will wager that the Aliens and occupying and the citizens commissioned the ‘Runners’ to combat the Aliens and acquire lost tech to aid in the Resistance. It's worth mentioning here that Marathon, Marathon: Durandal, and Marathon Infinity are all currently available on iPhone and iPad. If nothing else it's a trip into the history of FPS game design at that time (not to mention a nostalgia trip for those of us who played the heck out of it at the time), and insight into the origins of concepts that would migrate their way into the Halo games. Of course, if you really want to see where the roots of Halo came from, both Marathon and the MYTH games had many elements that evolved into what became Halo.
@@thelemon5069 It will have to be something very special to pass muster, IMO. The market is already flooded with PVP titles (which have to compete for player base) and they are far too prone to “live service” pitfalls. That type of thing will be little more than window dressing in a rinse-and-repeat PVP experience, if even that.

My niche opinion. If Marathon got brought back, rebooted, remade, whatever... Joel Nielsen would be perfect for an updated vibe and soundtrack I feel. For those who don't know he did the soundtrack for Black Mesa, the rather impressive fan remake of Half-Life. A lot of good heart and emotion in them, and one track in particular (Questionable Ethics 1) got me curious about how Joel would handle a song like the Durundal Theme
