I would give it the same ratings, but if I knew that was all I was getting before buying the "games", I would not get any of them. Only the 30-dollar one had game functionality. Cutting down the trees and building a boat isn't really a "game". I feel like fiverr developers go in for the quick cash. I have seen better games from 2-D and Game Maker devs than 3-d ones. The 3-D developers seem to take assets, string them together, and then provide some low-grade functionality to call it a game. So for 35 dollars, you are supposed to get 5 levels. You wanted an open-world game, so there aren't really levels, but there should be at least 5 different environments to explore or 5 different enemies to fight or something. The second one was supposed to be 5 levels, but you went with an open-world game. Still, 5 levels should translate into at least 5 different environments to utilize. It was for a 2-D game, but he made you a 3-D game. I think you would have been better off just sticking with the 2-D open-world game. The third one admits he uses assets, so that's cool. Beyond the assets, what did he add? Character movement. Okay. Chop down trees? Yea. Die underwater? Sure. Lol. Build a ship by walking to the desk with enough work? Yea, got that. Beyond that, it's all assets, lol. The assets are beautiful, but there is no functionality for gameplay really. How long could it have taken him to make it for that much? Maybe a couple of hours if that? That's not 5-levels worth again. Maybe if you were more specific, the result would be better? Like if you didn't say, build be an open-world game where you fight monsters, collect numerous items to craft, and explore 5 different biomes. Maybe the result might be better? I know I said that I would go with your same ranks, but now that I think about it, I think the third one is by far the most annoying, lol. So I would go, 1, 2, 3. Yeah, for 400, it would have been a lot better. I would have been pissed.
the 400$ game would come with legal issues. since the dev just used investor template and synty models, if you get the source code, you don't have the rights to the synty models. uness you buy em $50 for synty models, 60$ for investor. and it could of been put together in a couple of hours.... for 400$ that's a HUGE rip off.

Ive recently launched my first game and working on my second, and for the last game to have a working inventory syztem, gathering mechanics and a fully playable world and character selection is something that takes weeks to build from scratch. He obviously used assets to make it quicker, but even then i think its a great deal for 400,- to use as a jump off point to continue developing.
This is infact wrong, as the whole island and characters are from 2 packs called Polygon Pirates and Polygon Tropical Jungle Pack Made by Synty, with the Tropical pack alone costing 55$ USD. The Inventory and Melee system may of been brought but as a game dev its not just a drag and drop elements and again it would of costed the dev lots of money if he brought all the elements. What made you think that it was free assets? As it was a WHOLE island and Game.

By value yes I agree they technically arent free, but they have indeed been released free for the month a few times each as I have my main epic games account which I use for development and my backup which I also claim my assets on to make sure I never lose my stuff, and both of them have the assets from them being released free, and this has been done a couple times since they released these packs

The problem with the 400$ game is : He is using paid assets. If he gave you the project, you can use it. But to sell it, you need to buy the assets that he used. Since you don't have the licence for them (he has them, not you p-p such a trash project to sell, he didn't even modify some parts of the template he used)
Funny seeing all these non devs or hobby devs commenting on the unfair prices, while any decent indie prototype can cost up to 200-250k$ easily. Maybe some are just templates put together, but that's still not considered expensive or a rip off. Sure, most of these didn't take more than a day, but for that price, anything is considered good.

Don't give up on your youtube channel, I just found this video and I think it's pretty amusing. If you adjust your camera position, get decent lighting and a better mic, the quality of your videos will increase drasticly. On top of that you could speak up a little more and give your voice a motivating undertone. You already have the views, these things and a little bit of patience will give you the subs and likes
long story short: it never worth to pay a random guy to make a game for you that you can sell. If it would be really profitable for them, they would just sell their games as their own on Steam or on the Google play store. But also looking at this video which has 270K views, it's still worth it for you in the long run anyway. Also it's hard to decide whether the game developer spent literally days to make your game and maybe it's still looks bad, but all his work are honest and unique, because he made all the assets, scripts by himself, or someone who just used some flipped assets from unity store and haven't even changed anything on them.
Very interesting video. What I learned from this, is when paying game developers, you should start small, and then pay for improvements and additional features. Do it in steps till you reach a place you are happy with. for me, the $400 game should be ranked the lowest. If you payed $400 to improve the $80 game, I think it would end up way better than the island ship game. (Which doesn't even have any enemy AI) same with the $30 if you gave him more to improve it.
i love people here calling out scamming were i charge £25 per hour just on labour(and thats me being cheap). these where all good value for money spent, not as games but as prototypes to modify and add to. even the $35 one had more than it should. you got models, animations a base map and multiple weapons systems.
The 35 dollar one used assets from the asset store, probably free too. not to mention, copy and pasting things across a map is not very hard and with the size of the map, didn't even take long either. Plus, there were only 3 different weapons, and then some reskins. He basically payed for 3 easily codable weapons. And 25 dollars JUST on "cheap" labour? What do you work as?

The $400 game is just an asset flip of the Survival Template paired with the Synty Pirate assets. There's nothing wrong with using game assets (I do) but this is a full template he used which has the survival aspects, inventory, movement, etc. Zero effort by the "developer". Best $400 that guy made. You got scammed.

The first game you played is a game from a UA-cam tutorial on how to make a survival open world game. Full 8 hours is on UA-cam. And its the same assets same UI same model down to everything. The enemies don’t have death animation because in the tutorial the creator didnt add any. Trust me i know this because i watched that video. He probably sent you his project from that very tutorial. Scammed and he possibly from india.
These comments make me giggle 😂 What people dont understand is the sheer amount of coding and time that goes into game development. 2 weeks isnt ANYTHING to fully develop and test a game and integrate a lot of mechanics and features into a game. Not to mention that assets are EXPENSIVE. Im developing an openworld zombie sandbox shooter type deal and ONE zombie asset is roughly $30-$50. For all the assets my game needs I've estimated that itll cost about $1000-$1500. Thats just for assets. So i mean $400 aint nothing lol barely pays for their time lol
The last game is literally the synty pirate pack demo map (went for 20 $ on humble bundle). That guy used a character controller I already saw somewhere, I can't remember the name right now. The inventory is another asset. The only real work here is probably getting wood from the trees, and spawn the ship if you have 100 wood. I used Unity for 10 years, I am pretty sure I can do this "game" in one afternoon. If this scammer is one tenth experienced as I am, he could still do the job in a couple of days.
