That's the nicest start to a vanilla city i've seen in a long time. Instead of just slapping everything in and sorting it out later, leaving the gaps for detailing and parks etc is a much better idea. It looks great, can't wait to see how this city progresses.
I know I'm not a Patreon member but I have two suggestions. Firstly, that little castle Island should be a fairground or casino complex, with lots of nightlights and colour. Secondly, with all these rivers downtown I'd love to see ferries replace some bus lines or other public transportation.
As an idea for people that doesn’t want to mass delete industry later. Try placing 3x3 areas and let them spawn in. You get cute little buildings without the nasty tall ones. Great start OE ❤
@burjalmadre By 3x3, I believe they mean this: Maximum-size buildings are 4x4, meaning four cells by four cells. This will get you large industrial, residential, or commercial facilities that may reach upwards in an unrealistic or sometimes immersion-breaking way. 3x3 buildings, or three cells by three cells, forces buildings to be marginally smaller. Their capacity for workers or residents decreases, but you get models that you typically don't see and are more reflective of a non-rural city >20,000 population, especially for industry. These models also tend to be wicked cute and are still functional. I hope this helped! ^_^
@@two2truths To elaborate on Cleaver's explanation, the trick to zoning in a lot of a specific size of building is to do it piecemeal - along the road you want the 3x3 industrial for example, zone in one little 3x3 square section of the grid to create a single building, then skip the next 3x3 area of the grid and zone the one after that, repeating this pattern of zoned and unzoned grid all the way through your indutrial area. If you're zoning two roads that are back to back (and the zoned areas would touch each other), make sure to do a checkerboard pattern, alternating which pieces are zoned and unzoned on the two roads, otherwise you might get some 3x4 buildings stealing the zoning from the other road, buildings tend to want to build in at their maximum possible size. This is also why you don't want to just zone the entire length of a road at 3 squares deep, because they'll try to build in as 4x3 buildings if they can. Once the areas you've zoned have filled in, you're free to come back through and zone in the rest of the area with the rest of your 3x3 squares, and you'll get an industrial zone made up of exclusively the smaller 3x3 buildings!
@@Khotetsu thats amazing! I used a similar tactic in some of my cities but this makes a lot of sense! Yes, it works, and looks, much nicer in the beginning of cities and for smaller 'towns' you want to have further away from downtowns etc. Thank you for that!
🎊 YAY new series! About the castle, I know it’s cities skylines but what if we just leave the castle as it is like a haunted castle that locals just don’t go to? Just an idea. Can’t wait to see where we’ll go from here Eggs!
This is the first video of yours that I've watched, and I just have to say that I absolutely LOVE IT. I didn't know that someone describing how to start a city could make me smile, but here we are. You understand the gameplay very well, and I'm so excited to see more of your content! Thank you
This is what I have been waiting for! With my cities always failing half way through, I feel like I did something fundamentally wrong really needed to see how its done, now that we have all these lovely DLCs from 2022.
With the little school park props, there is a tile that look almost like pebbles( I think under the same tab) that might add a little bit of spice to them. Instead of having the blotchy grass and dirt area in there. Adding a little bit of fence helps tighten them up too! Loving what you've done so far, this is the first time I've been able to catch a build from the very begging. Pumped to see how it all comes together
I like your faux-church services thing you've done here, as well as your High Street, those assets with the street-side parking built in really help with the vibe. If you're going to put leisure along the waterfront across from the castle-thing it would be very cool if the castle was a concert venue, but I don't know if the assets would mesh. Happy New Year!
I'd call it Tribegga Bay and here's why: three rivers intersecting on the map and an island sort of looking like Manhattan , so tri [Tribeca, a blend of triangle, below, and canal (“Canal Street, New York”)] and bEgga ist quite obvious ;). Bay because of, well, the bays :D. Just an idea and I hope it makes some sort of sense. So looking forward to this build! 💙
Thanks so much dude, started watching this on my lunch break, got home and scrapped my old city, started fresh. I'm on console, but am seriously considering updating my laptop just for CitySkylines, the mods just seem like a game changer. I may not even need to update my laptop, its about 5 years old and is pretty basic, do you think it would handle it ok? Thanks again brotha!
Thanks bro!! The more DLC you add and the larger your city grows, the more it will struggle. RAM & CPU are important elements for CS1. Most laptops can run it though to a decent frame rate. My specs are in the description if you are interested
I'm already loving how this new city is turning out. The different green belts and focal points are really nice-looking. I can't wait to see how the new Build Guide gets built!
Love the green zone and walkway. I like to zone a park and place gates between residential and industry for insane amounts of cash early on with the extra benefit of some nice detailing options.
First time viewer here, couldn't help but notice you put a Water Tower in the "front" of your city near the round-about, say as your driving-in.. A man of culture, I see.. Very good.
I’ve been resetting my builds because I hated how my cities look. Can’t wait to copy your style! It really adds so much character to the city! Looking forward to the next videos
Starting a new city is so exciting with a certain theme in mind. As soon as I saw those mountain ranges it reminded me of the southern coast of South Africa and even into the wine region. My name suggestion would be Eiersbaai, I hope the translation is correct! Looking forward to the rest of the build
I've been sick with covid over the New Year weekend and had to work today despite still being ill - when the notification popped up earlier on my phone it was just the tonic I needed to keep me going through the rest of the afternoon. I've been getting into cities skylines recently (still playing with my first city, vanilla with no mods) and the way you're planning and executing is absolutely inspiring. I'm so excited to watch this series and continue to learn :)
You are the master of aesthetics, and so newbie-friendly. I've been playing since the game first came out, and while I enjoy the other two top channels, the greater amount of technical/engineering mods sometimes kill it for me. I want beautiful, well-planned cities and you're the source of that. You're easy to follow, as well; I love how you explain things. Just wanted you to know why I keep coming back, and I'm really enjoying this new city so far. Thank you!
Omg I saw this at 6am when I woke up, but had to move house today so I spent all day waiting! Finally plonked into bed and enjoyed this as my relax time sooo much! I'm so freaking excited for this map and series! I love PhillipBrady's name suggestion - very appropriate. Your church idea is so creative! I might even build along when I get time 😊
Revisting your channel after a long while... it's insane how much you've improved since burgusia, and you were already fantastic then! Very much in love with your police/fire stations, I would've never thought of using them as churches... very creative.

A bit late catching this stream. I have a sporadic following habit. I really like what you are doing and how you are presenting it as 'city building,' not 'city zoning' - It is the finer detailing point that I am still learning. Love what you did with the SSR assets. Makes me think of an American School House from the 19th Century. Looking forward to learning more as you produce more episodes. Thank you for what you do with our community.
So excited for the new series, off to a great start! Starting the city in a sensible manner is always my hardest challenge. My first name thought is Destiny 2 derived because I immediately thought Dreaming City with the LUT and the mountains so my suggestion is Rhe-Egg-silvia (Rheasilvia)
It was quite a surprise to see the new city starting today! Egg you are awesome man! I find it fascinating being from England that you are able to design your cities with right hand drive. Especially when it comes time to designing complex interchanges. I am from the United States and i think trying to play this game with left hand drive would scramble my brain.
Happy to be able to keep up with this series from the start (haven’t got so many episodes to catch up with). Console could definitely use more QoL tools/features which I hope will make it into a follow up game

The funny part was when it was JUST finished the weather got wet for a few days and a large chunk of the building dropped about 6 inches! Fortunately the school hadn't opened yet so no one was in it!
This is a great start to a new city. I really appreciate when you add assets and tell us what DLC they are from. It makes it useful to see waht DLCs we'd want to bring in. Nice idea of using the police and fire stations as churches.

Bloody marvelous. I think I will just watch all your videos. No one told me you have to have a Bachelor of Arts degree to play City Skylines. Watching your video was like taking a meditation class. I feel at peace just listening to your voice. I have just restarted and made your dog bone intersection. I am still struggling turning this way and that. I had to watch your video twice. Thank you. So excited for this new serie! As i mention several times, i really like your style, you make those towns look so realistic even if it's vanilla style 👏 Can't wait for the next episode! Keep up Boss!
Wow what a great map! This it TOTALLY different than Ilos! Looking good so far, and I'm excited to see how far you'll take it. There's so much opportunity! The homemade baseball field is a nice touch. And on a more fun note, that cinematic looking at the church - with the blue Maserati - is classic!!!
I just started playing about a week ago and I don’t think I’ve ever been this addicted to a game and I’ve played MMOs. The other day I thought it was 6 in the afternoon and it was dawn of the next day.
what I've really thought about this , after watching you , imperatur, biffa , , two dollars, cityplannerplays and Palm's time(I have to say palm's time is on another level , even with mods ) you are my favourite , because of your commentary and lore , every time I watch I want to play, and with that , happy New year 😃'
I've started a new city so many times because I keep building too tightly and at some point I end up in boring zoning, so that it just doesn't look nice and I don't want to build anymore. Unfortunately, you can't put the bushes that close together on the console, there's always some air in between. :-(
This was/is my first build with the map pack... Absolutely gorgeous map... Used that island for a nice lil walkable park that citizens use to bridge between spaced out residential and a nice little riverside commercial district
In terms of artistic design and geometry, I like the orientation of your baseball field. In terms of not having fly balls end up in the playground and the building's windows, I would reorient the field to face toward the big trees.
i recommend building the airport near to the downtown on the island to the left, where there is alot of space for public transit connections and close to the cargo port at the top of the map, island airports are also very realistic and happen all the time in real life
I'm a noob and I just found your channel! Love your builds and guides they're honestly so helpful, you explain everything so clearly! At this point I think I've spent more time watching your videos than working on my own city😅
43:41 This brought to mind the old TV series Grange Hill and all the "behind the bike sheds" scenes. Adding bike parking spots would probably be doable, considering bikes seem to function in the same manner as pedestrian vehicles.
First time commenting long time watcher. I would go with Farmer's Bay as well your goal is a massive farming industry and of course the bays haha. Love the start keep up the great work.
A lovely start! I'm looking forward to watching this city grow. My PC can't support loads of mods, so I'm really keen to get some tips on how to play on Vanilla but make it look good!
I missed this video initially but YAAAAY YOU USED BAY OF RIVERS! I know I wasn’t the only one who requested that map but I’m totally taking credit regardless.
I absolutely enjoy your videos and doing a vanilla build is amazing. I’m playing on the Xbox series x and it handles the game beautifully with the 9 tile limit. I wish they’d bring in more tiles for next gen console players. Can’t wait to see what else you bring. Subscribed. 😊
I’m building a city in NY basically meant to rival NYC called Nieuw Haarlem. It’s got Dutch roots too, but like NYC the British took it over. Anywho, I have a street called Kerk Street (Dutch for church) and it literally has a few important churches for the city and I’ve found adding churches and other random buildings really makes everything feel like a real city.
I think you should lower the green belt in parts then the path will follow the ground and you can bridge the road over it… may give a fun more unique organic look Also you should add a cemetery to one of your churches
I would call this city 'Orchid Bay', as Orchids are the plant Vanilla is derived from. Seems appropriate.
Ohh thats deep, I like it
It has to be Orchid Bay no doubt
Orchid Bay for me
I like this
And synthetic vanilla is derived from the anal glands of beavers.
"we'll cross that bridge when we come to it" when describing the plans for elevated pathways... Next level commentary 👌

"Placing pipes under the roads is a waste of nodes." FINALLY!! A UA-camr who gets it! 23m spacing is all you need for efficient water pipe spacing.

and we have a discord if you aren't there yet. Come hang, very active!
All im going to say is you have made my year again overcharged egg and thank you, i cant wait to see more of wats to come.
Cheers George!
what I've really thought about this , after watching you , imperatur, biffa , , two dollars, cityplannerplays and Palm's time(I have to say palm's time is on another level , even with mods ) you are my favourite , because of your commentary and lore , every time I watch I want to play, and with that , happy New year 😃'
I've been looking for a new relaxing Skylines series to follow! Loved this episode. Just subscribed and I'm excited to see where it goes.
Amazing city start! Love the open airy and wooded areas with the one-directional paired roads 🌳🛣
I've started a new city so many times because I keep building too tightly and at some point I end up in boring zoning, so that it just doesn't look nice and I don't want to build anymore.
Unfortunately, you can't put the bushes that close together on the console, there's always some air in between. :-(
Yeah, collision space on console is wider for some reason! Keep on with the series, it'll stop you doing that :)
This series is going to be WONDERFUL!!! Loving it already, and logged an Eggism too. What a day! ❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥❤🔥
Really looks awesome!❤❤❤ your ‘build’ style has really evolved. Wonderful to watch
thank you mate! I'm with covid right now and this is gonna be te absolute peak of my day
Feel better soon!
Cool build. I like your use of the one way roads and detailing with vanilla assets.
Superb! And coinciding with a day off work. Let's start building!
Enjoy, Ben!
This was/is my first build with the map pack... Absolutely gorgeous map... Used that island for a nice lil walkable park that citizens use to bridge between spaced out residential and a nice little riverside commercial district
In terms of artistic design and geometry, I like the orientation of your baseball field. In terms of not having fly balls end up in the playground and the building's windows, I would reorient the field to face toward the big trees.
i recommend building the airport near to the downtown on the island to the left, where there is alot of space for public transit connections and close to the cargo port at the top of the map, island airports are also very realistic and happen all the time in real life
I say this as a positive because your voice is soo soothing man, it legitimately helps me fall asleep, its amazing😂
Love the new city build with you building it in vanilla , keep it up, i would call the city Valencia Orchid Bay, got a ring to it :)
Great new series, loving the info pop-ups
I'm a noob and I just found your channel! Love your builds and guides they're honestly so helpful, you explain everything so clearly! At this point I think I've spent more time watching your videos than working on my own city😅
Glad you like them and that they can help :)
43:41 This brought to mind the old TV series Grange Hill and all the "behind the bike sheds" scenes. Adding bike parking spots would probably be doable, considering bikes seem to function in the same manner as pedestrian vehicles.
Great start to a build as always! Look forward to seeing how this progresses
Looking awesome already! Looking forward to ep.2! You should upload this to steam so i can download it! :)
First time commenting long time watcher. I would go with Farmer's Bay as well your goal is a massive farming industry and of course the bays haha. Love the start keep up the great work.
YEEEEEEEEEEEEEEES, lemme grab a beer and enjoy this!!!! I was sad that the other series ended...
Enjoy bro!
Avonfell.
This map looks like something out of Norway. So the words for rivers and mountains put together.
Such a beautiful map. So excited to watch this build develop!
I hope you enJOY watching it!
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG you know it! Excited to catch up this weekend. 😍
Credits all yours!
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG ❤
Howdie OE, I started watching this new city earlier this evening. And it's a great looking city once again.
I absolutely enjoy your videos and doing a vanilla build is amazing. I’m playing on the Xbox series x and it handles the game beautifully with the 9 tile limit. I wish they’d bring in more tiles for next gen console players. Can’t wait to see what else you bring. Subscribed. 😊
oh boy. what a way to start the year!
Love how 6 minutes in a new series egg's already talking about trams, yes please!
You’re the Bob Ross of cities skylines! Love this series!
I think you should lower the green belt in parts then the path will follow the ground and you can bridge the road over it… may give a fun more unique organic look
Also you should add a cemetery to one of your churches
