FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HI MATT

honestly sad to see how i always see those awesome limited time plushies and just cant get them
I would buy it but i can't afford it.
I love when you play this game im subscribing
"Why did an earthquake create a tsunami?" ... I think Matt needs to research tsunamis a bit more.
As a Geology student, I cringed a bit at this sentence. ^^
Underwater earthquakes, perhaps. But if the earthquake is on land, it should not have affected the water.
Side note. Large landslides into water and some volcanic eruptions can also cause tsunamis.
@@dylandepetro4187 are you saying that if there is an earthquake 'on land' you can go to the nearest body of water and be safe with no earthquake because earthquakes and underwater earthquakes are different things and stay out of each other's turf?
I’m an idiot, but doesn’t the tsunami spread out from the epicentre? So if you are *at* the epicentre, the won’t the tsunami be moving away from you instead of towards you?
@@mikaeelmuazzam8649 tsunamies arent working to that point
Literally the first time I’ve seen Matt play a normal game of cities skylines 😂🙈
I wish he would do more I would love a series of serious city skylines
😂
What? No strongest shape?
His first few episodes of city skylines was serious
and apparently his normal build makes me more frustrated as he placed two junctions next to each other and other traffic-problem potentials lol
Engineer: damn architects always making bad decisions
The geologist in the audience looking at the engineer walling up the river side and being confused why the water is so fast: :|
The water was fast and behaving strangely long before he walled it up.
What do you mean?
You do realize that hydraulic is a part of civil engineering, right? We understand how water works.
The water is flowing the wrong way - instead of flowing into the ocean, it's flowing upstream.
@@Anand70707plot twist, we’re secretly in Egypt!!
nice to meet you. I am Japanese. (using google translate) I was just doing the 1 tile challenge too. Vanilla Two Rivers. With a population of 50,000 and a traffic volume of 85%, we challenged ourselves with only two-lane roads and highway ramps. The population has safely reached 55,000 and the average traffic volume is around 90%. The first thing to do is to measure the corners of the map, which is the same as me, and I enjoyed watching it.
what a cute comment

I like how surprised Matt is that it's super successful when he doesn't build a multi-billion dollar bridge for the lulz

I want to offer you a challenge for the maximum number of people in one square without mods in Cities skylines. Apparently, at the moment the blogger has a record: "Peptar" with approximately 74k population, but he still has part of the river on the map, "unique buildings" are not used (I can be mistaken in the name, I mean buildings from the list in which there is a space elevator and something similar), he didn’t even remove the interchanges underground, not to mention the crossroads of the highways, and didn’t narrow all the roads, and I’m sure that you will probably still have a bunch of people to raise far beyond 100,000, and show all your skills! I would love to see what happens with your serious approach
half a year ago, I invited dozens of bloggers to accept this challenge, but no one agreed, I really hope that you will be interested in this and make my dream come true
@@DLikeChannel I'm no rce but I definitely want to try this, still getting used to the game at the moment though
You mean monuments 🫶🏻
This should be a good content, come on do it Matt
only 74k?
i've made one square cities with 500,000 population.
you sure you're playing the game correctly?
Designing a city with just one tile with a river dividing said tile, is pretty much the backstory of Washington, DC! The area given to District of Columbia was originally a diamond ceded by the states of Maryland and Virginia in accordance with the Residence Act adopted in July 1790. DC was designed by Parisian Pierre Charles L'Enfant, and was based on European models translated to American ideals. The entire city was built around the idea that every citizen was equally important, with a street grid system and wide diagonal avenues named after states radiating from the Capitol! The National Mall was designed as open to all comers, which would have been unheard of in his native France. L'Enfant placed Congress on a high point with a commanding view of the Potomac rather than a leader's palace on a hill like in Europe.
However, the Virginian side returned to Virginia in 1847. This is because of several factors. Alexandria went into economic decline because of neglect by Congress as members from other parts of Virginia fought to prohibit funding for Alexandria projects in favor of projects in their home districts. Legislation required that no Federal buildings be built on the formerly Virginia side of the District (part of the compromise that created the Capitol), so it gained nothing in government workers or buildings. But the main factor was legislation was in the works to outlaw slave trading within DC, and slave auctions were some of Alexandria’s biggest businesses.
That was pretty much my thought upon seeing the thumbnail. "That's just Washington, D.C."
Exactly! As soon as I saw the thumbnail I thought of Washington D.C.
The building with the hole survived the tsunami because it has a hole that lets water through, something which an engineer like Matt probably would design for a tsunami-prone area
Ironic since he was a drainage engineer
Rce MATT when playing other games :- Sensible gameplay as the game intends, some strongest shape references, some bits and bobs , crazy intro songs
Meanwhile in a game of pure engineering , Cities skyline :- So lets experiment with all these architectural ideas
Every genius sometimes dips into insanity
No no, cities are for urban planners (in some cases they are also architects)
Urban planning is generally a subset of architecture
What a great idea for a challenge! Will be interested to see if you beat my record for population in One Tile! 😮👍😁
Biffa why don't experiment a little bit with shorts content :)
@Amit because its not a good idea if you want to grow a long format content channel 😉
I found it interesting that you both used the same map
Hi, thanks for supporting the idea, why don't you try to update your record yourself, I'm sure that you now have a lot of ideas for improvement, last time you had a video on this topic that got a lot of views and at the same time you will be recommended to each other hit with an engineer!
Could you break your own record with a fresh one tile city with no mods?
The flow of water increased because of Bernoulli's principle, you reduced the width of the river by adding those barriers on the ends! And the hole in the building is not just architecture, it's useful for dealing with wind and important to feng shui! Feng shui is an ancient Chinese traditional practice which claims to use energy forces to harmonize individuals with their surrounding environment. The term feng shui means, literally, "wind-water". From ancient times, landscapes and bodies of water were thought to direct the flow of the universal Qi through places and structures.
In Hong Kong, feng shui helped influence the skyline. The skyline is pierced by gaping voids called dragon gates. Such dragon gates are designed to let these mythical flying beasts pass from their hilltop homes down to the water each day and then return again each night. The sharp-edged Bank of China Tower by IM Pei was broadly criticized for not using feng shui as feng shui experts saw the angular shape as “cutting” the good fortune of adjacent buildings. The skyscraper’s poor feng shui has since been blamed for adjacent companies going out of business and other mishaps. To combat this bad luck, the neighboring HSBC Building built cannon-like maintenance cranes as negative energy deflectors.
Matt: I want the highway as an artillery.
The military: Genius! Tarmac-based offensive weapons!
Matt: Wait, what? Oh...Arterial.
These are actually my favorite RCE videos, where I learn some things, he seems happy and not too chaotic, and I can enjoy watching him struggle
Now that Matt is back on the path of engineering and torturing himself via challenges, we can remove the possibility that he is an architect from the equation.
I mean sorry to speak against that but at 20 Minuten whatever seconds He literally said "I build an arch cause it looks nice". I don't know if he can get any more architectural
@@mariealba4158Arches are an engineering marvel, that is the sole reason he might've called them beautiful, because they are.
@@VVilla1nit might as well be a engineering marvel, but they're not called "engches" they're arches so... There's that
@@marcosv.ribeiro1073 engches, loved the term. but they need to be triangular , not rounded
@@marcosv.ribeiro1073matt is a architect confirmed
The first time he builds a city with the grid, it is a absolute success.
I like how he basically created Washington, D.C., complete with river 😂
@@olivertong1448 I was more just talking about this shape. Considering he’s British, I wouldn’t be surprised if it is based on London, though.
Now keep this series going and buy another tile and do the same thing and see how many tiles you can fully fill!
So, he's going to play the as it meant to be? Would be a first tho
I love the fact that playing the game normally (at the end of the games life essentially) is like a new idea for you 😂
I'm pretty sure the reason it keeps creating bridges is because of the road building mode. It's been a while, but I think if you switch the mode from that little circle icon to the down arrow, it will force the road to be on the ground if possible.
That's not the reason though, that's the workaround. The reason is wonky terrain heights
That square city is Washington DC, impressive. (I hope the US government would approve the full square city between Maryland and Virginia)
The only engineer whos making strong shapes in a city game😂
Edit thanks for the likes😊
Even that map has the strongest shape
The first city that didn't had a strong shape
I was actually hoping he would expand it into a series where he plays the game properly by buying land parcels and creates the biggest city. Engitopia can burn, it was illogical and to focused on the same things.
I hope @RealCivilEngineer sees this, if so, Then hello my trussy engineer!
You should do a mega city for the channel. Make a series out of it. This was really cool to watch.
Manhattan in a nutshell
Absolutely loving the city! Can't wait for what you do with c:s 2
You can force the game to place roads on the ground instead of bridges with the road anarchy. In the menu that says "Elevation Step:" you need to press that arrow pointing down and it will always be on the ground
i haven't watched city skylines videos in quite some time and you got me hooked again
I'm shocked that you made a perfect representation of Tampa, Florida without ever haven been here. The random flooding is what seals the deal lol.
Id love to see you expand this city. Like gradually turn it in to suburbs on the outs skirts then farm lands and forests here and there and then some small towns.
Not gonna lie.. seeing the tiny bridge at 6:33 I was dissapointed there was no bridge review... Its okay Tiny pointless bridge.. I still love you. You get a 9.5/10 in my heart.
far out bro I stopped watching you what feels like maybe only maybe 6 months ago? life and stuff, but far out seeing you at almost 2 mill does bring a smile to my face good for you man keep it up g
I binge watched every City Skyline video you have dropped and was hoping today's upload would be a new one. Thank you for this
I would like to see a part 2 of this series, basically you build a two tile city.
"Maybe i want the highway as an artillery all the way around..."
Didn't know this was a Tower Defense game.
Super neat how they do this it’s like a video game almost! I really enjoyed the video!!! Would like to see more keep up the cool stuff thank you
For me the harder challenge is building on a bunch of spaced out islands, Archipelago map is really limiting cause of how little space you have per island. I made a modified version of it tho originall had too harsh shores..
I love how he shows the eagle crying about left hand driving, it’s almost like he doesn’t realize the entire world drives on the right and the uk is the weird one not the us
Well maybe it's the world that's weird not us
Edit: had to fix some grammatical errors
as part of the 30%of the world that drive on the left... speak for yourself
well, not just the UK drives on the left. 76 other countries including Australia do the same.
@@sirius_solaris most of the countries that do left hand driving were at one point in time British colonies so it kinda is just the uk
Also, 1 in every 1.75 people from a LHT country lives in India.
0:45 Highways make for great artillery. Highways were Napoléon's forte, especially when considering his focus on maneuverability.
When im down i always come to your videos. From days im upset from daily life or just now loosing 200k in a hard game i will always come to my favorite engineer.
In the Anarchy Mod Menu on the top right you can choose between ground, elevated but with dirt underneath, bridge and tunnel. The circle is vanilla mode so the Game chooses for you and sometimes it doesnt understand the Terrain that well
Also bridges cost 2 Times as much as normal roads
You should continue with this series. When you complete one tile buy the next one and continue one by one.
as an architect, all ur attacks on us make me laugh a lot ahahaah! Keep going, mate!
Now send it to Biffa and tell him to fix the traffic but remain in the tile.
That would be a neat collaboration of sorts.
good idea and fix the tsunami city
It's good to see RCE playing games properly for once
Some people thought that a cube was a good idea for a city, while in fact all that was needed was a square.
A good square would be cube like so yeah
The life and existence of your residents is endangered by floods.
The mayor: "Hey-ho, it is what it is."
great video! I'm really looking forward to more city skylines content like this
Its always a good day when RCE uploads a city skyline video. just finished re watching the entire egatopia series
Can't wait to get my Beaver!!!!!!!!!!!! :) Love ALL the vids you do. Thank you so much for the great entertainment.
Greg
I really enjoyed your video. Thanks.
As much as i enjoy your variety content, i always love to see some more grounded civil engineering on the channel
I like when he plays the game in the way the Devs wanted
You gear so much of your content as silly fun nonsense i forget you're a incredibly capable person, this is actually an impressive city!
It looks so satisfying seeing the whole tile filled in
really should have started with Dirt roads, especially for the ones you are using as a marker, would have made the whole task much more cost effective.
the square border around the city kind of reminds me of the border of washington d.c. with the potomac
00:01 "Hello fellow engineers" *COOKIE MONSTER* "and welcome back to..."
i live in a grid neighborhood, and i have lived in non- grid neighborhoods. and the grid is amazing. getting around is easy because you can just go wherever. in non grid suburbs, it takes like 30 minutes to get anywhere because you have yo go the most roundabout way to everywhere. it may not look good from the sky, but it’s so much more practical.
Day 1 of asking you to try your engineering skills in SCRAP MECHANIC
You should keep that map, and each episode add a new tile to it. Then work on just that one tile and see how your city does overall. Slowly, consume the entire map! Mwuahahaha!
I was sad that there wasn’t a bridge review today. Very much the highlights of the show. 😂
It's so surreal watching you play this game totally normally
This city actually looks quite good 👍
crazy how i was just rewatching your old videos and all of a sudden got recommended this new one
nice, i didnt know you still played skylines
This was so fun, please do more of these more "serious" Videos playing cities skylines! :D
The apartment buildings with the parking in back are probably supposed to in real life have an alleyway behind them. But even without an alleyway the parking lots still accessible by driveways at the sides of the building.
The building with a hole though it should have a monorail passing through it if the game allowed that.
Keep growing this city, I'm trying to see how you'd expand it out.
Matt: finally decides to build in a grid system, also Matt: refuses to use the grid tools built into the game
I remember when I didn't realize you could expand your cities beyond one tile.
The skyscraper with the big hole in it is from Hong Kong and is one part about keeping it from blowing over in the wind (good engineering) and one part so the dragons can get through (badass), so clearly not the product of an architect. The weird cube thing was made by a weird artist.
That was funny as hell. The ending made it worth it!! 😂
what I always do when making my city outline is use dirt roads and upgrade later. the game won't let you have access to dirt roads until you put one of the two lane roads down first so I just connect the highway to itself to get access. way cheaper.
I actually appreciate this video. I was always horrible at this game and ended up thousands of dollars in the negative and had no idea how to get out. I just re-download and doing much better so 👍
So many lovely bridges without a bridge review
My current city is enspired my yours but it's almost finished the second te with 60K people in a massive uni and about 40K + a week from all my buildings and have about 30 public transport routes and it's doing really well thanks so much RCE
I'm pretty sure all the floods are from pausing/unplugging and having the water stopping and moving again. Just a guess. I'm a cheese maker not an engineer
Can you please do more cities videos! I love your content so much you convinced me to buy the game!!😊
some dedication right there mate, cheers!
its probably been mentioned by the time i write this but the change in water is most likely due to you slowing and increasing time causing the water to have semi tsunami. hope that helps mate
quick hack: the japanese garden is the smallest park and they have an equal happiness radius
I've seen this game as an option on my console and wasn't sure I would like it. But bc of your videos, I might try the game.
10:42 laying pipe and satisfying people
To avoid the bridging thing on uneven ground you need to click on the second button (arrow down) under Modes in the Elevation Step window (top right of your screen in this video). This forces roads to stick to the ground.
I have the feeling the water physics work different when speeding up time or slowing down, so when you slow down all this water still has the speed of sped up time so it spills to the side.
Could you do a part 2 to this. Like A checka board map of single tile city states
You should continue this as a series, adding 1 tile at a time expanding that city
What map is this on
Dust Bowl map from the Cities: Skylines Natural Disasters DLC. Took me way too long to find this myself, hope it helps you!

Actually, all of my cities are one tile big. I usually get bored and move onto a new city.
20:36 yea, that's how most first time players are if you limit yourself to how much land can be used.
Love the vid man. cute doggo as well
the hole in the building is not just architecture, it's useful for dealing with wind and important to feng shui
I'm in the middle of something like this city. I just didn't measure stuff so precisely, but I got 10k people in like 25% of the whole map. I gradually demolished low dens zones to put high-density ones, once they were available, before I expanded the city horizontally,
You should make this a series, the next video do one more tile etc until the whole map is a huge grid city
You could've made a second episode optimizing the traffic of the city, with public transportation, metros, and shifting the suburban and industrial parts to offices and high density. Completing a fully service based operating city.
That earthquake was just Matt hoisting himself by his own petard. XD
It was a really good Monday for being a Saturday.
Any tips on building layout ? I have been using box style layout and it was headache with congestion after that
I appreciate the hard work you put into this City. NOW GO BACK TO THE CHAOS
