We are not weird and crazy. Just honest, expressive and no bs. xD Honestly, I am a Serbian who has lived in the US for years now and what I miss the most and why I will eventually go back for the most is the 'freedom of the soul'. I don't have a batter way of saying it. People in Serbia are just so honest, free to express themselves and don't insist on political correctness. I get reminded of that every time I go back home. But I'm grateful for my life here because I would have probably not come to this realization had I lived my whole life in Serbia. From this prospective I understood Serbian history of constant fighting for freedom and our ancestors' holding freedom to such high regard and us just approaching life with so much freedom in expressing ourselves. It's just amazing how one has to go away to realize what she loves about her own people, her own country and is going to be back for. I now understand that being Serbian was never easy and probably won't ever be but being free means being alive and that is what is worth fighting for. Thanks for a great video, Erik!

Great video. I am Serbian. I was born in Canada. I went to Serbia once and loved it. I miss that feeling of freedom that you don't feel in Canada. Also the traditions and religion- Orthodox Christianity. There is a true tolerance and openness in Serbia and Greece, where my mother is from, to religion. By religion I mean not just religious gatherings as in Canada but religious thought- thought that does not change through persuasive arguments or trends. There exists the acceptance and encouragement of individuality of mind (think Plato, Aristotle). Again I miss that. And I don't like all the rules about how you should be. I grew up that way. It's an unspoken system and culture. And I think it exists from lack of traditions. I used to think it affects women more (buy this designer, wrong color, too "unique," etc). I'm glad you are speaking the truth. It's how I think and feel too.

Thanks, Erik. I was getting tired of repeating to Belgraders why I left Canada. Now I'll just send them this video. You articulated it all.

Since moving to Serbia from Canada, I am now certain that I will never move back to Canada. Canada is a painfully boring, alienated society, where people are passive aggressive and closed off. Canada has become a giant human sheep farm. The best Canadians are those wild enough to leave, like Erik.

I'm a Serb who's born and raised in Toronto and still live here. I can definitely resonate with how you feel because I've also spent many summers in Europe (mostly in the Balkans, but in the past two summers I've been to some Western European destinations as well) and I always feel way happier there than I do here. The lifestyle is simply way superior to the shit we're put through here. I'm thankful for the privileged life that Canada has given to me but I still feel like this country is not for me and that there's a whole different world over on the other side of the Atlantic that's what I'm looking for. Right now I'm finishing up college so hopefully after some years of working I can move to Europe

geez, I was looking at travel videos and found you! Exactly the truth! I am from Toronto and several generations Canadian. You have expressed what I have felt in my soul better that I ever could. Groupthink and mind numbing political correctness are the norm here. I moved to interior BC to escape it and found that although it's less PC, I am surrounded by smiling morons. I have always known that something is just not right, but thought something must be wrong with me because everyone else accepts their prison. Honestly , I am not sure I have ever had an honest conversation with a single person in my entire life. People, life is hard and the grass is not always greener on the other side of the fence. I disagree with the people that don't think you sound Canadian. This is what we used to sound like before we were bombarded with American culture 24/7.
