    A word of advice, when you go to pay the bills it's better you sum it up before you go there to know the amount, because they've been known to steal, charge you more. I know the fees so I add it all at home so I can tell them to sum it up again if it doesn't match. Now they know me so they do not try to overcharge me. And I was born in Serbia and lived here my entire life, so can't imagine how they rip you off.

    If you don't need to be in the center of the city, try New Belgrade blocks 44, 70, 45 it's by the river, green environment, all with central heating, quiet, but you have shopping centers, bakeries, pharmacy and everything.

    Thanx, great info! Another idea: health insurance for foreigners in Serbia is not covered at all, at least not in the title of any UA-cam video, although this is now of interest in Covid times even for young nomads

    Hey...be respectful! We have very strong cult of dead and respect for our ancestors. We believe they are still among us, and tempting us trough strangers and travelers. This is why we are welcoming ppl, we believe our grand moms and dads are testing our goodness all the time.

    Do they have automatic deductions or pay via BPay in Serbia, Erik? My internet comes out of my account automatically, monthly. Mobile phone, I re-charge monthly via the app. Electricity i pay a certain amount each fortnight from my bank account and if i start owing them, they just increase the amount i pay each fortnight. Lifts are covered by Body Corporate which owners pay to each quarter (?).....cable TV can be part of the internet service depending on who we choose as the provider.

    The biggest issue I have in renting apartments is the bed and mattress. Usually they put a cheap mattress, sometimes not even a proper one but one of the foam things. Your back will be finished within a couple of months with a bad mattress. What solutions have you come up with? Do you just buy your own?

    In Serbian the stress is on the first syllable of the word. 11:06 Gre-janje (heating) I think it's "nagreva" in Russian? In Slovak it's kúrenie, and in Polish it's ogrzewanie, so all very similar. The word Soba for room 9:19 is from Old High German Stuba. :)

    • @ovrskr
      @ovrskr 3 роки тому

      in serbian the word stress is not fixed, it can fall anywhere. it depends on the word.
      polish and slovak do have fixed word stress, but not serbian

    • @frostflower5555
      @frostflower5555 3 роки тому

      @@ovrskr Well most of them are on the first syllable and we do have those longish sounds. I guess you'd call them tones since Serbian is a tonal language as well. But I did notice that our o's are not pronounced the same as in Russian.

    • @ovrskr
      @ovrskr 3 роки тому

      something like that yes..
      it's a pitch accent system, its like
      sam (by myself) vs sam (i am) differ by pitch, and the longish sound phenomenon is caused by that.
      in Russian its a totally different system, the word stress tends to be in the middle of the word, its similar to how english intonation works and well covered in intro courses
      so yea to make it simple its random...
      ah also to other learners, yes the Hrvatski Jezični Portal shows it, but its for Croatian, so don't use that in Serbia, the values are wrong.

    Well, finally the old furniture things explains a lot. Why are so many kitchens so tiny......i live by myself in a 2-storey 3 bedroom townhouse and my kitchen is 1/3 of the of the bottom floor which is great for just me and could accommodate more ppl though. And unit sizes are tiny. My Mrs lives in a 2 bedroom appt of 46m^2. I couldn't swing a cat in that, nearly. I personally would go....nuts, bonkers, lose the plot, crazy...you get my drift lol

    Its difficult to find a good place here.... Lots of apartments available but they're in tall buildings which means constant noise and the building is about the same state as those in Chernobyl.
    My apartment I rented, after just a short time new retarded neighbours from the village moved in, that love to scream and jump around, so every 5 minutes i hear like bong bong bong bim bam bong bong shrkiiiii (chair moving) bing bong.
    all day long. that was after they decided to do 2 months of renovations drilling walls. I'm exhausted of it.
    don't rent apartments here. get a house in Zemun or some luxury airbnb somewhere
