I stumbled upon a method of using a vibrator to quiet the tinnitus. The science behind it is to transmit the vibrations along the cartilage from the external ear to the auditory nerve inside the brain.
IT ONLY TAKES A FEW MINUTES. PLEASE CHECK IT OUT.
I used a small electric shaver and placed the non-cutting end to the part of the ear near the entrance of the ear canal. You will probably need to move around that area a bit until you find the spot that gives most benefits.
The vibrating sound can be quite loud so don’t apply it too long. After each try, assess the effectiveness.
Initially, I tried 2-3 spots for 1-2 minutes, they were not effective until I raised the duration to 3 minutes.
Please report back on your experience.
You are spot on Dr. Thompson. Internet searching for an answer and trying everything I can find.
I am sensitive to running water from the faucet. clinging of plates car brakes, Horn. pretty much many
Thank You for your informative presentations. I have tinnitus for over 15 years and have been to an audiologist on more than once. The answers is no cure. Fine. However, the last few years and most recently I notices that antihistamines brings the tinnitus down to almost undetectable levels. So what I do, when the tinnitus gets persistent, is take cirtirizine 10mg or doxylamine before I go to bed for relief. If I take it every other day it suppresses the tinnitus for about 3-5 days. 80-90% effective! Just wondering if you have any input or have had anyone else share the same results.
I’ve had Tinnitus for 12 Years. Some days are severe and I notice when I take Zyrtec before bed it it sometimes nearly takes my ears to silence the next morning. It’s hit or miss with me but it’s never as quiet as when I take Zyrtec before bed. I’ve tried taking during day on on a spike and don’t get same results. It often works the same with Unisom. I wonder if it’s a deep sleep issue or an allergen flaring up my T. An ENT told me maybe it relaxed me as if my anxiety/stress levels was causing the spikes.
I’ll try taking every other day to see if I get better results. Thanks for your story
@@glennsmith1645 I take the antihistamine/sleep aid at night before sleep. So far around 80% effective. Yes it does numb the brain and make you a little sluggish the next day. It's a trade off. Nice to have some quiet days. If it doesn't work lay off the drugs a few days then try again.
Why dont you allow people in the UK TO take part in your Zoom calls.
Ben - I have had tinnitus now for about 6 months. I have had some dental problems, I have a few gaps where teeth were pulled and I am awaiting implants. I had the hearing test and saw 2 ENTs, I have mild hearing loss in the 6000 to 8000hz range but both the audiologist and one ENT said it's not hearing loss related. The other ENT said it's hearing loss related and dismissed me without a physical exam. I noticed that when I do certain movements it gets louder: 1) opening mouth wide, 2) pushing my tongue against my back lower molar, 3) pushing down on my eye sockets, 4) closing my mouth and creating a vacuum, 5) turning my neck a certain way, 6) pushing in on my gums. The obvious question is, is this TMJ-related? Are the dental issues causing this? This is somatic in nature, a constant high-pitched hum, the 8000hz white noise on you tube is closest to the sound I am experiencing. Regards, thank you...

Please help... my tinnitus started about 1,5 week ago, and its ringing non-stop. I am starting to wonder if my first accidental Niacin Flush caused it, because I took b-complex and was on the sun. The flush was not bad, but i had red face, ears... what should I do? :(

It would have been nice to know if Dr. Tracy has heard the term reactive tinnitus & how she defines it. Some say it's normal part of tinnitus while others say it's more related to a subset of hyperacusis in people who also have tinnitus. Some say it's a totally different thing all together that isn't understood by the medical community. Hopefully you guy's will have a discussion about reactive tinnitus soon.
Hey! Do you think listening ASMR would help? I did it in the past to help me sleep and I love it, but now that I have the ringing I'm worried it won't be good for me. I don't need headphones to enjoy it, just wondering if it counts as sound therapy. Thank you, I'm new here :)
We recommend people with tinnitus to avoid silence, especially during quiet times or when tinnitus is more bothersome. Using environmental sounds (window open, street noise, turning on a fan or humidifier) can help provide sound enrichment. We encourage patients find and use sounds that are personally soothing and relaxing.
Dr. Ben or the community could you give some tips on what kind of apps are really good for sound therapy? Furthermore I did all the checks (hearing test 2x and MRI) and they found a small noise damage left on specific frequency (10db also the ear that has tinnitus), the weird thing I started noticing it somewhere after the 2nd dose of the corona vaccine. I can sometimes manipulate the sound/intensity of the tinnitus by specific massages of the head/neck/jaw and my left ear is also plopping all the time (like it is partly constipated). I already have a meeting planned with a psychologist for CBT is there anything else I could/should do?
I have the same question with sound therapy you would recommend. @Jesse, any chance that you saw the episode of dr. Ben regarding the process of recover from hyperacusis? It was very interesting and already a great help in finding Some relief. Here’s the link: ua-cam.com/video/w1qFQfRWL9k/v-deo.html
@@antoinedenbosch thanks for your response. I dont think I suffer from hyperacusis and the other things mentioned in the linked video I was indeed aware of. I am struggling with tinnitus in 1 ear and I am just trying to determine if I am on the right path because I am still bothered by the sound in quiet places.
Resound Tinnitus Relief, Starkey Relax, myNoise, and Sound Oasis are nice app options for sound therapy. Given you can manipulate your tinnitus and are experiencing ear popping, I recommend a medical evaluation to determine etiology.
do neck and shoulder pain with tinnitus can be cure?
We recommend addressing the neck and shoulder pain to see if it helps.
Guys have you tried Gaba(gamma-amino butyric acid) supplement? Is it effective to cure tinnitus or at least lessen it?
There is currently no scientifically-validated medication that improves or cures tinnitus.
A severe sensitivity to my childs cry arrived around the same time as my tinnitus, only a certain high-pitched cry evokes a very emotional reaction in me. It's almost like my head feels like it's being rattled or vibrating strongly, verging on pain. It sounds very much like hyperacusis. I can also hear the bones cracking in my head and creaking in my head. Are these two things connected?
Yes. It is very common to experience hyperacusis when you have tinnitus.

I have thermophobia. I put my hand on a hot burner one too many times as a child and now I have an aversion to putting my hand on hot burners. Can you help me with that? When you start describing hyperacusis as a sound phobia, that is how you sound to me.
Have I ever had hyperacuis? You bet, to all of the sounds that you mentioned and many you didn't: high-pitched voices , any kind of hissing sound, the tapping of keys on a keyboard, the tick of a mechanical clock, the rustling of leaves high overhead in the trees, someone crinkling a plastic wrapper, scooping dried pasta shells from a container, listening to this UA-cam video. It is not a psychological reaction any more than phantom pain is a psychological reaction. I've learned to live with it. Just because inner or outer hair cells are not being damaged doesn't mean that the overall hearing system isn't going further off the rails leading to worse hyperacusis and/or tinnitus. Most people can get better. Some people never do or just get worse.
If I'm hearing correctly, the "advances" are MORE SOUND THERAPY. Yep. That's pretty much it. I can't claim to be current on the state of research, but everything I come across seems to be just more theories. Basically guesses about what might be going on, but no proof of anything. Hey, it's hard, I know. But I get the feeling that a couple of monkeys randomly typing at a keyboard will be the first ones to come up with the cure.
Hammer noise, kitchen utensils, drilling machine noise
I am 9 and don't now if I have it just started today I'm worried
Don't worry buddy there is a lot of people who have it and it goes away. Just relax and breath slowly and think about other parts of your body. Neuralplacity works. God loves you and He has a plan for you .
Dont be afraid young man trust God read Books and hear message about faith in God be brave everyday to manage it will gone, in my experience i am almost havent notice the sound now for about 1 month already just be brave trust Jesus our Great healer
I’m
Sorry man I hope it gets better do not wear headphones and listen to loud music your young I’m sure there will be a cure soon or better treatment mine got worse last few days and I’m nervous that’s why I’m here.
Already had a sensitivity to insects buzzing in my ear, so tinnitus is hitting me hard and then to read there's no cure....and not to be insulting to all doctors, but already feeling like doctors have no real interest in curing things, but keeping patients as forms of income for as long as they can, I'm already hopeless that much will ever be done to cure tinnitus.
Otonomy company is working hard for the cure ( oto 313 and 413) I feel like you do when talking about doctors.Greetings from argentina.
