    I wanted to take a moment to thank you for this video. After using a different DIY on the driver's side, and absolutely struggling, I found this. I finished the passenger side strut in a fraction of the time and had a good approach on how to loosen the gland nut. Just a total game changer. Thank you so much for this!

    I just did this job and your video was an indispensable resource! The new gland nut that came with my strut cartridge was taller than the one that was in my car. It wouldn't go completely flush so a few threads were visible. My Volvo mechanic friend said it would be ok and to use blue loctite.
    Just my observance. I hope it helps someone..

    Thanks to your video i replaced my front struts last fall. I did my first test drive yesterday and realized im missing the thick washers under one of the strut nuts, very loud lol

    Thanks for all your detailed videos! They’ve been of great help in the past.
    Though I ran into some trouble with this job. The procedure at 0:50 is impossible on my 1992 245 with abs. I can’t lower the strut far enough to clear the chassis. The ball joint simply won’t bend any further.
    I ended up unbolting the balljoint bracket from the control arm.

      Thanks for the heads-up, I didn't realize the ABS 240s would require an extra step.

    Well done. While it’s not something I can do myself understanding the process is a big help. Many thanks.

      yeah, sometimes its nice to see all the trouble you can get into when trying to DIY, so you feel better about paying someone else to do it

    Excellent tutorial. I am replacing my springs and strut mounts again. Where did you get the 2 round metal plates you installed on top of the mount and underneath? I've searched the net high and low and can't find. Only GT plates that go on top. Thanks! Subscribed

    How do you keep the top spring plate from spinning when you try to loosen the nut?

    • @LongbowMedia
      @LongbowMedia  Рік тому +3

      Without the Volvo special tools, which is a wrench and a counter-hold, the best solution I found was to use a good air impact gun in a series of "burps" to remove the nut.

      @@LongbowMedia Volvo OEM rear shocks were supplied usually by Sachs or Boge they were both oil or Gas shocks /Struts and your best value if your in North America is Rock Auto, if you want you can get the Bilstein B4 Touring Class shocks for the rear they do for sure stiffen up the ride , i had them and removed them for this reason and installed the standard shock, KYB also use to be a supplier to Volvo while 240's were being built and are a decent rear shock ,i am just getting ready to install KYB front struts on my 1989 240 DL , it still has the original ones in it, hope this helps, i did work for Volvo here in Canada back in the late 80's 👍
