  • This was my first flight to Earls Colne airfield and unfortunately I met what appears to be a student pilot on his solo navigation exercise flying the wrong way across the overhead. (Overhead joins were south-to-north that day and he flew through the overhead north-to-south). Scary.
    Update June 2017: The Airprox Board's report is here:
    www.airproxboar...
    (Their informal mandate insists that they attach no blame to pilots in order to continue to encourage reports from pilots involved in any near misses.)

    I re ran it three times and never saw the other plane. Things happen so fast and he was in the wrong place

    Hello, I hope you're well. I would like to ask you what is it like to own the tb20. I am still interested in getting one but I have heard bad reviews on maintenance and parts. Especially the mechanic in Elstree said it was a nice plane but a nightmare to own. As an owner, what is your opinion?

      The mechanics at Elstree say no such thing! Lol. The TB20 is a wonderful plane to own. I feel very lucky. Most parts are industry standard general aviation parts - the engine, propeller, all the avionics etc. You might want to read this www.peter2000.co.uk/aviation/tb20-experience/

    It must have been a stealth plane because it was totally invisible here in Seattle

      Turn UA-cam up to the highest playback resolution and then play back full screen. You'll see it then.

    I did not see another aircraft, was there one or is this just a move to get us to watch?????

      Set your video playback to the highest resolution and look where indicated on the screen. (The incident was investigated and reported upon by the UK's Airprox Board....look at the "show more" in the description). Your online name suggests that you're some kind of troll I'm afraid...

    Looks like a close shave, do you still fly from EGTR?

    That’s an incredibly narrow runway

    • @howardgraff4084
      @howardgraff4084  10 місяців тому

      Yes - it's a "grass runway with a 10 metre tarmac insert" according to the airfield. I've not see such a thing elsewhere. www.anglianflightcentres.co.uk/airfield/ (see note 2)

    That runway looked more like a taxiway

    • @howardgraff4084
      @howardgraff4084  7 років тому

      Yes, the parallel grass runway is wider at Earls Colne, but the concrete runway is perfectly serviceable. Nice and long too.

      Well done keeping your cool and getting on with the job in hand.... ie landing the aircraft. An odd thing for the other guy to say I must admit 'we saw you coming'.

    What is height for a standard overhead join?

    • @howardgraff4084
      @howardgraff4084  6 років тому

      Normally it's initially at 2,000 feet above the runway (QFE).

    Sorry you had a nasty time on your first visit to EGSR. I keep my TB10 at EGSR and find it a really good airfield to fly from. Hope you are not put off coming back........The call sign of the other aircraft does not sound like it was one of the home aircraft.

    • @hikingjim
      @hikingjim 7 років тому

      Definitely not one of the home aircraft. All the home based aircraft callsign starts with Alpha as in G-ECAF asking for airfield info at the end of the clip.

    I learned in Elstree at Flight training London. I know fly a PA28 Arrow Turbo from Blackbushe. I wanted to send you a private message but I don't know how to on youtube. if you could send me one so then I respond to you. Or if it's okay with you let me know and I will put it in the post.

      I don't think UA-cam has a private message system! If you want to send me something in the post, that's fine of course.

      I am looking for a TB20 to buy a share thats close to me. Do you have any shares available in yours?

    • @howardgraff4084
      @howardgraff4084  7 років тому

      I keep thinking about starting to sell shares in my plane, but at the moment I'm still playing with the man maths and keeping full ownership. Sorry.

      Okay no problem I understand. Well I will keep a look out if I haven't found anything in the meantime. Well hopefully if I bump into you next time in Elstree, we could have a cup of tea/coffee at my not so favourite cafe. Happy landings

      TB20s are great. Absolutely the best little plane I have been in / flown. If you buy a share of another one, let me know. I can talk you through the TB20 guide.

    If he was a student on a solo Nav, his initial call should have been, 'student' followed by callsign surely!

      Sometimes people just forget or are lazy or haven’t been told but the worst one I’ve come across is not wanting to label themselves as a novice flyer. Not quite sure why since we’ve all been there and that’s literally the point of calling student first but oh well
