I'm so glad to see you for first time and react to my favorite ABBA song remember that ABBA is a Swedish pop group that recording between 1972/1982, and after more than 35 years They returned to the studio and recording a new album "Voyage" that is a worldwide success in 2021/2022 and in last May all four ABBA members asist to the premiere of the 'Voyage Concerts' in the new ABBA Arena in London ABBA is an acronim with initials of their first names, and was two couples too: Agnetha Fältskog (blonde singer) & Björn Ulvaeus (guitarist songwriter) Benny Andersson (pianist songwriter) & Anni Frid Lyngstad (brunette singer) both couples separated in ABBA years "S.O.S." (1975) has a story It was one of Their first recordings after the greatest success of "Waterloo" in Eurovisión, just four months later, in August 1974 But it waited almost a year for its release, in June 1975 at Sweden, September 1975 at UK and US "S.O.S." pick at #6 in U.K. and #15 in U.S. being Their second hit in both countries at the same time, and six #1 and more Top 10 in several countries of all continents and after these, ABBA had 18 Top 10 consecutives in UK between 1975/1982, for example: Mamma Mía, Fernando, Dancing Queen, Take a chance con me, Chiquitita, etc "S.O.S." in less than 200 seconds is a gem, a masterpiece! The transitions from the dramatic opening (a dingy piano and a cracking Agnetha voice) to a powerful rock beat with catchy pop chorus in the middle are brilliant. ABBA marked an era in many ways One was the musical leadership of its beautiful and lofty female vocalists as the center of attention Another was the use of contrasts, such as sad lyrics with catchy melodies and harmonies And their recording tecnique "wall of sound" gives ABBA more powerfull ABBA, as in its time BEATLES, left an unforgettable mark on several generations It is good music that lasts and stays alive and well. Thank you very much form your reaction I hope to see you in another video to ABBA remember that I suggest you their first worldwide hit: "Waterloo", the live perfomance in Eurovision, when ABBA win and begin your fame as a group: ua-cam.com/video/3FsVeMz1F5c/v-deo.html My best regards to You from Buenos Aires, Argentina South América
Pete Towsend from Rock band WHO confessed that this is the greatest song he ever heard concerning POP genre.Once he firstly heard it on the USA radio he didn't know it was Abba.He got overwhelmed and couldn't step back rethinking how he should feel about it.Cause he was supposedly a 'rocker' and that was mainly pop music..But he said It was too late cause he had already got hooked on them. .
Btw Abba is not a disco band.Main genre is pure modern pop music but also expanded in rock, folk, schlager, reggae, glam rock, synthpop, baroque, theatrical and disco fields. Appart from the 2 guys who were the songwritters and producers,Agnetha the blonde one, was also a pianist and songwritter on her own.But he only offered one song in Abba's studio albums. Her first solo albums before joining Abba were mainly written by her, both words and music.Abba is still big deal.Oftenly discribed as a phenomenon.(You might be able to learn in time the reason why).Do more Abba plz Maybe some other classic one such as .KNOWING ME,KNOWING YOU,next time.Iconic, Fantastic emotional video and this time its redhaired FRIDA on the lead. This is Elvis Costello's most fave covered one.WATERLOO(pop-glamrock)/or prog pop-rockEAGLE The original Full, long version( of about 5plus minutes) with the guitar solos would be fine for you,i guess.
a clarification ABBA is a quartet, two musicians and two singers for the recordings they had other Swedish studio musicians, not always the same ones, who alternated on the recordings: another guitarist, a bassist and a drummer and for the ABBA tours doubled their staff, to maintain that special 'ABBA sound', that the engineer of one achieved with the duplication of tracks and mixes for TV presentations, like this one from 1975 in the United States, ABBA had their tracks recorded in the studio, and only the four of them performed
ABBA have some excellent videos (for the time) but always better to see them perform either TV or live in concert as they had such great stage presence. Routines were simple if they existed at all as it was more about the song and expressing the emotion than performance in those days. Personally i think there was another TV performance that was much better than this but it was fun. Having watched many ABBA reactions I made a list of ABBA songs along with links to the best videos/performances for them but it is a long list and probably gets seen as spam. Let me know what type of song you would like to react to, Disco, Rock, pop, ballad, anthem or just performance or vocals related and I will make some suggestions.
The genius of ABBA is that each song is completely different in style or mix of styles and arrangement but they keep completely recocgnizable. Pioneers in production techniques. 23 worldhits 400+ milion sold and most album tracks (arround 125) could be hits as well
🙂 Agnetha Fältskog sings the "original" version of "S.O.S.", in Swedish, on her solo album "Elva kvinnor i ett hus". Then they recorded it for ABBA's third and eponymous-titled album. I have that album, which a high school upperclassman brought back from Europe, one summer when he was on holiday.
Yes both were couples and both divorced in time. For a fantastic live performance you should check out their live@Wembley Does Your Mother Know/Hole In Your Soul back to back performances.
Here is a tid bit of the times. This was quite the scandal. Agnetha had floated that she was going to show her back side to the audience and was warned not to. She did it anyway. I mean I wasn't displeased with the view. Now go back and watch it and you will see that it was intentional but not as practiced.
Not my favorite group, but my appreciation for ABBA has only grown as I’ve gotten older. There is no denying their mastery of creating perfect pop confections that have transcended generations. It’s quite an accomplishment. And this was a lip-synched performance direct from the original recording as all American Bandstand appearances were.

The official video clip is also great for its time certainly!

ABBA forever

Agnetha is insanely gorgeous help - no bass and guitar aint even plugged in they are lip syncing but thats ok those girls can sing
Wow!
Dancing Queen is my favorite
Waterloo was Abba's first top 40 hit in the USA! Please pick the stereo studio version.
to know about how ABBA begin your worlwide fame is better for he that in these case to see the live perfomance at Eurovision Song Contest in UK 1974
They were miming as most groups on TV did back then. Bass player? Drummer? etc...not needed when you mime.
the sound and video are not synched - there's a delay
