It’s truly stunning, how many times Abba has written “the perfect pop song”.
I agree - it's one of their best songs. It was big when ABBA were around the first time. Somehow, it doesn't get the attention it should get today. Let's make The Name of the Game great again :-)

I just Kove Your "Speachless" reaction. Itś so appropriate cause ABBA are beyond words in their songs. OK - I'm Swedish, so I'm kind of Partial, but again - I'm speachless too sometimes when it comes to ABBA's music. It's absolutely Timeless and Universal. It's Love and Wisdom delivered in Beautiful parcels for us to open and adore, time and time again.

how nice to see you with an extraordinary song by ABBA, which has many peculiarities:
1) it's the first song in which each of the girls sings a verse as lead voice
2) the official video was recorded at Agnetha and Björn's home, because Agnetha was very late in her second pregnancy
3) "The name of the game" was released in October 1977, a month before "ABBA The Album" and the movie "ABBA The Movie"
It was a bold gamble from ABBA, it opened their horizons and spread beyond pop
I think that "The name of the game" (1977) have some vibs of BEATLES songs like "Penny Lane" or "Fool on the hill" (1967)
curiosly, "The name of the game" was only #1 in UK (4 weeks) and replaced in the #1 for "Mull of Kintyre" by Paul McCartney
You have fantastic songs in "the album" to react, ABBA's most versatile:
"Eagle" of almost 6 minutes that opens the album
"Move on" or "Hole in your soul"
or the hymn

Agnetha's vocals are crisp as always but Frida's vocals make this song for me. I remember the first time I heard this and I wasn't impressed, but it's a definite grower. The official music video with this song is great and tells the story so well. Your reaction was clear and definitely your own. Abba songs uplift everyone so I can understand your wonder at hearing it, and I agree it's better than Just a Notion. Keep on doing Abba please.

The nervousness when she looks into your eyes is known as the 'Agnetha effect' I'm especially sensitive to it being in love with her for the past 40 years.
ABBA is just a ton of fun. You really need to check out Gimme Gimme Gimme and On and On and Onto hear them being a bit cynical and fun with their normal subject matter.
Agnetha and Frida literally look like dolls in this.

Thanks for the ABBA. Yes it's one of their best. Alot of stuff going on in this one, both girls get a lead, tempo changes and the french horns on top. But I feel that way on all their songs. dude, setting aside that they are fkn HOTTIES, I can't believe nobody has copied the quaddripple track on the "the name of the game" That is what made their vocals so amazing. If you listen to them just singing together, it is different than the "the name of the game". That is the ABBA hook. I have loved them for ever and can't believe nobody has picked up on this.
The two best (and equal) ABBA songs were this one and 'Eagle' (the long version). Nice reaction!
