I am 65 years old. I started practicing yoga when I was 63. I am not the most flexible but I am amazed at what I am able to do and I have changed my mindset on what I am not able to do. For me it is the process that is giving me the confidence to practice yoga. I love it. You are so right. ❤
I have also been practising yoga for 7+ years. I am 75. Best thing I have ever done for myself. I surprise myself ,other students and teachers. My success is all down to commitment and practise.
The little word "yet" is so empowering for me. It's reassuring to know that I will never hit a wall and progress is always possible as long as I keep trying.
I relate 100%. Through my yoga practice I learnt to be more indulgent then grateful to myself. I am happy with what my body is capable to do today. I try not to wait for a specific improvement, I am just thrilled to see an evolution and sometimes it simply stands in feeling more comfy in a posture. Thank you Charlie for your amazing videos.
My mother is a yoga teacher..in her class there are people aged 70..yoga is not about gymnastics and all those stuff.. it's about calming the body and the mind
I wish I could take a class from you regularly. Your voice and cadence and vernacular, all make for an incredibly soothing impact. You're well spoken and gentle in nature. I trust what you say and believe you have the best intentions for others.
You are so encouraging! I’m getting back into yoga after a break and I’m trying to be patient with myself as I get my strength and flexibility back. This helps
I started doing yoga in march and I can already see insane progress! I am stronger and more flexible than I ever was. And even though I am still pretty inflexible, I am very proud of how far I have come 😍
I enrolled to yoga class for the first time 10+ years ago. Starting of as the youngest and least flexible in the class. 6 months later I improved immensely (could touch the ground while standling with strength legs, 30 cm lower than the first try) but was still the least flixible one. 10 years later, wandering around many yoga studios due to different circumstance in life, still always the proud least flexible one. 😊
Charlie, i started following your channel last August to help gain some mobility for my snowboard instructing. A year later and im still here and seeing little improvememts everyday. 1 year has gone by just like that. Thank you for everything. I hope your channel continues to grow!
@@CharlieFollows yes, I just hope you feel appreciated because so many people are falling in love with yoga and finding peace in their lives because of your channel. You make it accessible for everyone.
Yoga is wonderful. I've got a knackered spine and I've been practicing for 10 years. I've got my final lesson to finish and submit, then I'll be able to teach others. If I can practice, never mind pursue a career as yoga teacher, anyone can. All good things come to those who wait, love and light 🧘🏼♀️ 💜
Interesting Charlie, I started exactly 7 years ago too, a full Icelandic practice in Reykjavik during the Summer Solstice ☀️😌it was my first class and all I remember is the instructor giving me the biggest smile because of huge pool of sweat on my mat! ;-) your are spot on, after so many years I'm still trying to get to the next level with headstands and flying crow!
Old guy here, some serious good wisdom here! I recently started following your channel. I love your classes and must tell you that I find your voice inspiring and soothing.
I love following your videos. I include parts of them in my own flows, and I gain a lot from your energy and words. Thank you for putting all of this out there. You're lovely and totally strong!
What people don't understand is that yoga is anything but doing crazy poses. I am an Indian and literally born into yoga. Been doing it myself since childhood but I still don't perform the crazy ones.
That’s amazing love but I wish you had a different caption for this; It is the 7 years that got you where you are & we never stop learning; there are no shortcuts to experiencing something , let nature take its course ; No wonder you are so amazing at what you do, it’s all these years of experience that has added so much value and knowledge to your journey; Wishing you love & light, god bless ❤
Thank you so much , you are great! Your tips and Your recommendations are more than useful, they are practical and I, as a self-taught person, see my mistakes. Just thank you!
Oh. And I love the way you explain and encourage. Not like … oh you can do it. Just modify it!! No. Modify it and get to this! You will get here! Just let the torturous poses readjust your body. Stick with it. Yoga is mind over body most times. Mind in control. The mind will give up before the body. Strength in mind is most important in my mind. Hold through the pain. Don’t be afraid to wobble. I love that I can see your muscles shake. And you wobble and don’t acknowledge just keep going
All I know is that it always makes me feel better, and there's nothing more important than feeling good! I like practicing Kundalini yoga, and I try to do the Five Tibetan Rites every day too. Thank you, really enjoying your channel! Have a good one! 🙏🕊️❤️😊
What you said is totally relatable. I was trying to do chakrasana, but wasn't able to achieve the pose properly. Today I managed to it properly without any problem
......and yoga is not just asanas, that's only a fragment of the scope of true yoga. The ease of movement of body is one important component. Great video!
One thing that I find to be so important but not often discussed is how your proportions can affect your ability to do poses or if they make it more challenging. Yoga is much easier for people who have longer arms and shorter legs than it is for people with longer legs than arms. If you are starting out and hav longer legs than arms , a block and strap will come in so handy until you build the strength and flexibility to hold poses. I’m 6’ tall woman and my legs are longer which made yoga challenging at first but over time and with using the right props I was able to overcome. It’s so much better to let the props help you. I notice many students are hesitant to try props so I incorporate them into my classes and give options to advance in the pose. Yoga is amazing and it’s so interesting to learn about how your body plays into your practice
I got really really flexible again after gymnastics early childhood til age 9. Kept practicing stretch and tumbling til my first pregnancy at 28. I bounced back…. Into addiction. Off and on relapse. Now 5 years clean. Two more pregnancies. I was overweight after super swelling. My feet were mangled from the weight and previous injuries. Anyways I have comically small feet and super short legs- I’m 5’7” and my legs are as long as most people 5’0” - 5’3”. I’ve measured 😳. My arms and shoulder are very long. Very broad and my hands are big like a man’s. Great for crow and chair pose. I have no problem bending my knee and grabbing my short little foot in pigeon. But getting my leg up over my shoulder feels IMPOSSIBLE. You make yoga so fun and interesting. A CHALLENGE for my brain and my body. I’m flexible and caught up QUICKLY since march. Dropped 60 pounds. And now I am hungry for more!! I’m so glad I found you. Thank you. You have a closer body type to me than other teachers. But I have much broader shoulders. It makes me feel better to see a small woman with shorter legs showing me how to move my body around with grace and intention. I’m excited to dig into your videos
Wow such nice and true words. Also I really liked the format of you just talking, it’s way more eased and nice to watch, so much better to listen to and watch between the other shorts or videos
It is very true when you get tired or if you stop and I could tell you that when you do this everything else get stronger in my opinion thank you for sharing. I’m out of my yoga practice and I’m lost only cause I can’t get you a consistent
❤️. I was in a yoga class, we had a girl who did gymnastics as a child and was so much better than the rest of us. The teacher ignored us all and kept taking photos of her with different pose….for like 20mins!😕 wish I had a teacher like you
Exactly 💯... I totally agree 🙂.. I have lots of flexibility but i struggle to do splits easily... Please share your practical journey of vertical and horizontal split so that I can adopt changes accordingly : )
For me the issue is CFS/ME and fibromyalgia. Yoga helps a lot with pain management, but so often it's 1 step forward, 3 steps back. It's hard to keep at it sometimes. I don't know if you teach anyone with disabilities or chronic conditions, but if you do I'd love general advice.

Same here!! I'm 64 and used to do it when I was in high school and then left it. Started doing t again 3 years ago. Enjoy it !!!!

Keeping balance in some of those positions is impossible! But with the right instructor it's an awesome experience.
