Awesome info…I was just on the phone talking to my daughter, who says she’s having issues with her scalp getting tiny bumps and also has some spots that feel dry. Great info I appreciate you so much. Wishing you all a speedy recovery. Many blessings.❤️
I've been using a cp shampoo for almost a year. The first month or so, it was painful, until I found the right formulation. I now wash my hair once a week and condition twice a month. If I try to wash my hair more than that, it becomes really fly away. I haven't used ACV more than once or twice in the last year, and that was at the very beginning when I first started using CP shampoo. I won't ever go back to using detergent on my hair, the one time I was in a hotel overnight, and my hair got really dusty and dirty (due to an outdoor vendor show that was rainy the first part of the day and then the second part of the day things dried up really fast and start blowing dust around), I used the shampoo at the hotel and regretted it almost instantly. I can't say I have ever really understood those people who say that CP shampoo is bad for hair, because my hair is the healthiest it's ever been in my life (and I'm almost 50). Before using the shampoo I make, my hair was falling out by the handful, and not only has it stopped falling out, but it is also thickening. Thank you for doing this video. Hopefully it helps others out there who might be on the fence about using CP shampoo on their hair.
Great information on not washing our hair everyday. We actually learned this when we were traveling through the country in our RV for 6 months out of year for 4 years. We were spending 2 to 4 weeks at a time up in very rural camp grounds exploring and homeschooling our girls in nature, state parks,, national parks and museums, and science centers. All over the country. We had limited water in our tank so we learned to conserve our water.. We researched and studied different ways to keep our bodies and hair clean. Our hair has became healthier with less washings. My husband and one of our daughters had really oily hair and washed daily. Once our scalps and hair adjusted they no longer had oily hair. Our other two daughters and myself can wash our hair a couple of times a week and use apple cider vinegar rinse and it keeps our hair lovely. We have now use cold processed soap instead of shampoo. We rarely use a heat dryer, hot rollers, or curing irons on our hair. I am going to now work on a cold process shampoo bar with a high superfat and try it out. Thank you for sharing I have tried to explain to people we as a society wash our hair more than it is needed not giving our bodies the time to do what they will do by design.
Ahhh I did RV living for one year and the cabin fever. We did not have the right RV for that lifestyle so I was very claustrophobic. But yes, I can attest to needing to preserve water and propane so you just learn to not get filthy and stay clean. I enjoyed being in the Parks with showers, they are nice for those days you are just dying to soak it up in the shower for a good while without worrying about running out of hot water. It definitely took me some training for the cp shampoo but I love it now. I've made a few variations, one with wine, one with beer, and one with lots of butters plus nourishing oils, raw egg and rosemary eo - they're all fantastic. I haven't tried a syndet bar yet. And for conditioning I use a hair mask every other week, acv rinse or a lotion bar that doubles as my pomade (I have a pixie so styling is a must - sometimes I just run the lotion bar through my hair to tame and style it) but I also avoid heat tools, with my bleached hair I have to keep it to an absolute minimum otherwise breakage gets really bad.
@@LivingCoast2Coast I bet! We really only hopped around Oregon as work didn't allow for constant travel. I may have been less stir crazy if we were actually on the go instead of stationary for long periods.
You are the sweetest gal. I hope you and your household get all the healthy real soon. I stopped using commercial shampoo in 2008. I used baking soda dilution followed by ACV solution for a few months, then Dr Bronner liquid for years- washing about once a week but rinsing when the sweat was too saturated. Then I switched back to the baking soda and vinegar routine and am finally happily developing cp shampoo soaps that are really awesome. Your conditioner bars are wonderful for me and my DD (we're that textured type). I haven't seen your cp shampoo bars available in your shop, but with your advice I am finally having some good results with my own experiments. Thank you so much!
I typically use syndet bars. I've made cold process bars and they are quite nice as well. I agree, don't wash your hair so often. I have super dry hair because of an autoimmune disorder and can only wash every 3 to 4 days otherwise my hair breaks. Great info.
Feel better! And poor Mrs S & C... it must be very cold in your studio for all those layers. Thank you for all good info! We've transitioned to syndet bars and conditioner bars, and my girls and I love! I'll have to look back at your cold process recipe and give that a shot as well. Not lugging around and discarding those big plastic bottles gives us all the good feels!
You’ll be right ole chook! Im sure your week will get better. Thank you again for all the great info. You are amazing! Much love from a long time sudser💜

I've been making and using CP shampoo for years now and absolutely love it. I can't use them in the country because of the hard water. Syndet shampoo turned my hair into straw. It was crunchy! 😒 One thing for sure is I have to condition my hair no matter what. I actually use conditioner bars after my CP shampoo and works well. Thank you for the video and hope you all feel better soon!
I have 2A usually, dry scalp, oily hair, and easily irritated skin so I made the switch!! my hair was a right mess for a while but was doing alright. Def less itchy.. then I went on a forum to learn more about making soap. Then I found threads about how using the bars (unless they were syndet bars) would ruin my hair and make it fall out if I used them for more than a year. I have bad anxiety.. I buy bottled, sls free shampoo again. Thoughts on all of that hair fallout?
I mean, every head of hair is different, and proper cold process soap formulations as shampoo been controversial of late. That said, before commercial shampoos were made, soaps were what people used on their hair. For a frame of reference, I made three shampoo soap videos early on in year one and used my kids as examples for each type. Feel free to look at their hair (wildly different) and see if cold process shampoos have hurt these very difficult hair types. It might lessen your anxiety.

I've done all three cold process, syndet dars, and bottled shampoo. I've been using CP Soap or diy liquid soap for my entire family's hair, and we all have different hair types. My hair has never been happier, and I'm a bleach unnatural blonde. I shampoo tops 3 times a week, typically only once. I use a conditioning mask every other week, we've all got pretty healthy hair and not itchy anymore.
Thank you. For that reason i do a shampoo bar soap ...cold. with 3% detergentes, I don't wanted to used shampoo any more but no shampoo bar works for me. Only the 3% coco-glucoside, I don't know why but it works.
Ahh I see I think lol. I've never washed my hair every day. I wash it every other week or did when I didn't have locs. Now I wash every other week or every 3 weeks. I have type 3c and 4a hair. Beautiful swirls!!

I'd really like to try CP shampoo bars. I have a feeling that I will have to make Conditioner bars though too. It's funny... everyone in my house has different hair types and different scalps too. My husband is losing his hair, but has ALWAYS had extremely dry skin / scalp. Not sure why he insists on washing his hair daily... I think it's terrible for his issues. But what he has left is coarse and curly, but DRY [I bought him conditioner and oil, but he just won't use it! He's so frustrating.]. My daughter has that rare stick straight, thin and wispy, natural dirty blonde hair with a very oily scalp. My adopted son has similar profile as my daughter [his is a little thicker though, with a little body], but I would say they could use the same bar recipe. They both wash daily. Daughter conditions. My son has really coarse, thick, wavy hair that has a mind of it's own with a normal scalp, but his hair is dry.... no matter the oils or conditioners he uses. Washes daily or every other day. And last but not least... my hair is really long, wavy to curly, thin hair, but lots of strands with a normal to oily scalp and dry hair from mid to ends. Wash every other or every two days, using conditioner on mid to ends daily. I would have to make 4 different types of shampoo bars and at least one conditioning bar just for my household. 😑😳 Oh... and none of us use any heat on our heads or hair color. I plan on watching all of your shampoo bar and syndet bar videos.
Sounds similar to my house, but all of us go at least 2 days between washing. My eldest and 3rd daughter have very very thick lightly curly hair. I imagine my husband's hair would be the same had he not been shaving it to avoid his receding hairline. My second daughter has long, thin and curly hair. I have short, thin hairs, but a lot of them and it's color treated pretty regularly. I made a CP bar with Shea, mango, and cocoa butters, a raw egg and rosemary essential oil and it works in all of our hair with minimal conditioning. I put rosemary in my liquid shampoo too, it's one of those eos that's great for all hair types
How do you figure out what type of hair do you have? Like mine I would say mine is like yours pretty easy going but my daughter has super greasy hair and nothing I have tried can keep her hair from being greasy. She literally washes everyday and it's still greasy greasy 😭? Help Chantine she's in middle school and is embarrassed all the time because the other kids are well just mean.
My cousin had this as well. Turns out she was washing her hair too much, and was making her scalp overcompensate by producing more oil. Was a vicious circle. What she did was on a school break, I think it was Christmas break, she didn't wash it for like 2 weeks, and it kinda reset itself. She only washed twice a week after and was fine .
Yeah there’s probably hormonal stuff going on, and definitely over washing, which is causing the scalp to overcompensate and produce more oil. I would suggest going low or no shampoo for a few weeks and see if it helps.
Also she has super thick heavy hair. I did just convince her to cut it up to her shoulders for the summer to take some weight off. What kind of shampoo bar would you suggest for her?
I have very fine hair and a semi-oily scalp. If I skip a day shampooing it still looks greasy and gross. I wish I could skip it, I prefer a shorter shower!
So I was rewatching the plum deluxe tea vids and I wondered if a black tea and activated charcoal combo could work in a bar, or would the charcoal suck up all the good stuff in the tea and basically nullify the tea altogether.
Absolutely love this video and your discussion around CP shampoo!! I've been using my homemade CP shampoo bars for about six months and love them. The biggest difference I notice is that my scalp isn't itchy, flaky or oily like it had been using typical shampoo and syndet bars in the past. Plus it's so soft!
