It’s so nice to actually see the X-men being a family/team that supports each other and also combos their powers during fights.

I will always like Scott for bringing Emma into the fold, she's such a wonderful in team foil and brings completely different kind of energy, and yes, alot of great villains like Bastion
His work in Generation X was amazing.
No mention of the amazing feat Jean did here, by tackling the falling part of the building and the falling debris (that Cyclops said he would deal with) and safely bringing Cyclops to ground level, while tossing that piece of the structure with no issue. As well as, taking on Prime Sentinel Trask. You should give her a chance, she is a great character. A flawed yet still heroic woman.
YES! Loving Jean must be a Michael thing 🤔 what did you think of the way they animated her powers? I’m not crazy about the blue glow over her entire body, it just doesn’t feel very Jean to me. Would much prefer a pink glow, or for the energy just to be emanating from her brain rather than covering her head to toe
Rogue went rogue and it was so satisfying (and scary). It's so refreshing to have quality Marvel content with actually great, sophisticated writing. Every episode has lines that are bangers.
Writers are totally writing for the 90s kids that grew up with the show

I haven't seen ANY form of advertising for XMEN 97 at all. None on cable, social media, internet (Google, bing, explorer, firefox), Talk shows, etc.. kinda hard to get viewers if literally NO ONE knows its even out.
There were several excellent lines in this show, so the writing really stood out
I agree, it's a very well written show. I loved the _"Yet so many (people) allow their leaders to be terrorists"_ line. Very apt considering the current situations for at least 2 countries in the world right now.
I cannot get enough of this show! They have done such an incredible job of giving each character more depth. I really need Nightcrawler on the team permanently! He has such a good vibe with the team, love his energy!
This is what you can do when you actually have comic fans in charge of movies/tv shows.
I don’t think everything has to trend. It’s content. Not every piece of Netflix trends. It’s having new content which makes me feel happy.
The Dr King/Malcolm X COMPARISON came much later, Grace. Even Stan Lee said they weren't made as social allegory, but it just lends itself easier to such subject matter.
Agreed. Plus, the comparison doesn't make sense if you understand their philosophies or what they really stood for. It just leads to demonization of Malcolm X and smoothing down of Martin Luther King's more radical ideas into general thoughts can be spouted by anyone.
We need that OF model back.

Not only would Cap help Rogue in the comics, the two led the Avengers Unity Squad as part of Cap’s attempt to help the mutant cause, rising to Scott’s challenge.
But not every iteration of Cap is the same, so it makes sense for this variant to have a false sense of justice that is more by the book

Captain America is an elite mathematician in the comics (it’s how he manages to throw his shield at angles that allows it to return to him). I have no doubt he’d be able to track the trajectory of Rogue’s throw and track down his shield.

That scene of The X-Men attending Gambit funeral destroyed me emotionally! That was so devastating!
Did you guys notice Wolverine yelling for Morph when he got hit? They were aso like standing like an old couple when the Xmen got to Rogue.
The sequence where they show Henry Gyrich was pretty cool. Him listening to the opera “Madame Butterfly” while framing butterflies… that was a fun touch to the scene.
Rogues fighting, particular that one kick, were all from XMEN vs Street Fighter video game!
Yup. Just a small correction: it was X-men vs. Street Fighter.
That was a very underrated and overlooked game, unfortunately shadowed by Marvel vs. Capcom that came out after it.
MvC2. Gambit and Wolverine were the X-Men in MvC. Rogue had one move as an assist character in MvC. People have pointed out she does her dive punch and dive kick from the Capcom games.
Edit. All the Marvel side of MvC2 was is just collection of all the Marvel characters from the previous games with Cable and Marrow if I recall.
If X-Men97 makes me like Bastion they are miracle workers.

I have been watching each episode as it’s released but my friend who is a big X men fan is waiting until all episodes are out to binge them in one go and While I can imagine many doing this, avoiding spoilers will be tough

Way more nuanced than those imo. But maybe that’s just because it’s more modern, although I feel DC tries to actively be less realistic or authentic and more idealized
This was the second best episode next to Episode 5 for me.
I hope the last three part episodes kicks the action and stakes up a notch even more!
17:22 actually I read an article on Screen Rant not long ago that X-Men writer Chris Claremont explained that Charles and Magneto were inspired by Ben-Gurion and Begin rivalry and NOT by Martin Luther King and Malcolm X
Yesss Bring us the X love! This episode made me realise why they changed the colour of Jean's power signature. Against the red of Scott's blasts, the pink washes out and becomes invisible. Although I don't like the blue, i saw how it made her powers pop visually in the moment

There was a pink telepathic flash when she got a ping from the future though, I think either her powers evolve or Rachel/Hope get the pink instead which I prefer because like you mentioned, it’s visually more of a pop with her working closely with Scott

I screamed when they found Emma Frost. However, how did she used telepathy in diamond form? Also, how is morph using other characters powers? Metamorphs can only copy genetic appearance. Like in X-Men the film, Mystique was able to copy Wolverines claws, but they weren’t real adamantiun, and he cut them off of one of her hands. Mystique per the comments is also one of the strongest metaphors in the X-Men universe, if anyone could copy powers, it would be her. But also, Morph didn’t have this ability in the original series, so WTF?!

Confirmed by Beau DeMayo that Morph can copy physical powers only, when he shapeshifts. Makes sense to me, like empowered shapeshifting.
@@sooshibun No it doesn’t. Thats not even what his powers were in the 90’s. Physical adaptations maybe. Like if you morph into someone that has gills, if the gills are their “Superpower” and it lets them breathe underwater, yes. Or like morphing into Emma Frost in her diamond form, but he shouldn’t have the durability of her diamond form, the same way that Mystique copied Wolverine’s claws in the first X-Men film. But that’s not what happened with Quicksilver. There’s nothing about his appearance that should make him have super speed. It doesn’t make sense and it’s not what was introduced in X-Men 92.
This ep checked so many boxes for me. Grace, I love how you got into the x-books during Lobdell's run -- me too! Big Gen X and AoA fan. And I realized last night that the original OZT storyline was published in '97. Props to the creative team behind X-Men '97 for that connection 😁

I'm surprised that Grace didn't have anything to say about Wolverine's show of support for Rogue. I liked that it showed a schism in the X-Men. You'll have Nightcrawler and Morph over on one side and Wolverine and Rogue on the other. People that are idealists versus people that are willing to cross the line to achieve their goals. That dynamic made for some of the greatest interactions between Wolverine and Nightcrawler in the comics. I remember when Nightcrawler saw Wolverine kill someone off-panel and it was a point of tension between them for a long, long time.
yep....xmen was such a great comic at that time and it really got at the differences between members and how they viewed life
honestly this show made me want to start reading xmen comics. since it started, i've been reading the chris claremont uncanny xmen run alongside the new mutants comic and I have to say, not only are the people behind this show doing a phenomenal job portraying these characters but also do it in a way that leaves you hooked and wanting to know more about them and their relationships. it's been a little over a month now and every single day since the premiere I've read an issue or 2 (or many more if the stories leave me thirsty) of the uncanny xmen and my life has never been better lol I can finally understand why so many people are so passionate about them.
It’s such a great parallel that humans fear mutants, due to the awakening of their X-Gene, and now humans can unpredictably be awakened as Sentinels
That’s what I’ve liked most about HOX/POX. Humans not realizing that AI people would be so much more dangerous, the Phalanx unifies us and this is where all that begins

Grace, Stan Lee had said and confirmed many years ago that he wasn’t thinking of MLK or Malcolm X or civil rights when he created the X-Men. It just so happened that what he created naturally lent itself to being compared to those real life people and events

The whole Avengers + Fantastic Four would have to get involved by the end of that saga just to defeat Onslaught, like in the comics.
How. Onslaught is Magneto and Xavier’s most repressed, hateful and vengeful thoughts manifesting as a glorified ghost.
I liked this episode, the super powerful vampire was almost an antihero, Captain America's participation and Gambit's death was a heavy scene.

Hi Grace. Xavier and Magneto were not created to mirror Dr King and Malcolm X. That is quite obvious from the early X-Men stories written by Stan Lee. Magneto especially couldn’t be more different from Malcom X.

The show's writing is usually so sharp and so good that I almost missed what I think is an error:
Jean sensed Emma telepathically and specifically called out a "telepath" in the rubble, which is why Cyke had a big sad after it was Emma cuz like you said he thought it might be Madelyne.
But from what I understand about Emma's 2ndary mutation, when Emma is in her diamond form she has no access to her telepathy whatsoever. She obviously survived because of her diamond form, so how did Jean locate her again? Maybe a whoopsy there.
Anyway, still an awesome episode. Flying Purple People Eater will forever be one of the creepiest songs in the world for me, especially after that Peele movie.

Professor X and Magneto weren’t created to represent Martin Luther King and Magneto. X-Men was created as a rip off The Doom Patrol. That was in the 2010s that Lee started saying that l.
Right that wasn't the intention but it did sort of become accepted over time especially after Claremont wrote them and really kind of "made them good"

Rogue going more than a bit villain after absorbing the mind of a villain is just one of the many downsides of her powers. Stronger personalities get more of a foothold.
I don't like that excuse for her I think it's better writing to just view it as part of who she is overall, like Grace said Rogue originally was portrayed as a villain sidekick of Mystique and Destiny, and she fought against the Avengers to get her Ms Marvel permanent powerset in the first place. It's not like her having a "rogue" side is that weird really. Plus she's into Magneto it's like they both have a common vibe.

With these seeds of conflict being planted and the new emerging ideologies of some X-Men clashing, I suspect they could adapt the X-Men Schism and split the team in season two. With one team following Magneto's path led by Cyclops and the other following Xavier's path most likely led by Storm. Or maybe just adapt X-Force: a mutant Black Ops team willing to take more drastic measures for the mutant cause, even killing. If they don't split up, would Cyclops keep X-Force a secret from the rest of the team like in the comics?
I wish they had more time each episode. Just enough to give some scenes room to breathe.
Scott & Cable is my favorite XMEN relationship and they just blew past it 😂
Age if Apocalypse got Grace into to comics, that so cool. It actually did the opposite for me because I was following the X-Men story then everything changes so I bowed out for a season.
