That’s not the reason lol You don’t know the quality of the movie until you see it. The quality of films that are coming out now are not that different from 2018 or 2019. Audiences just aren’t attending the movies like they did pre COVID thanks to streaming. Streaming and digital purchasing is dramatically impacting every industry. Movie industry is just finally experiencing what the music industry experienced in the wake of Spotify and Apple Music. I myself only been to the theaters twice this year vs 2016-2019 At this point I would have at least Been 5 times by now, it’s just nothing I’m eager to see yet.

I think it’s simple, the trailer had an ape on horseback wielding two machine guns. It was iconic and is still the image most people think of when they think of that whole trilogy. War had a boring prison escape storyline in comparison.

I feel Dawn did such great business because of the goodwill from Rise. Rise told such a heartfelt tragic origin story for Ceaser you could do nothing but feel happy after he finally escaped and started his clan. I think people forget how good Rise was amongst the more critically acclaimed Dawn and War. Rise told a much simpler story that everyone could get behind thus winning new fans.

You’d be surprised how badly behaved viewers in L.A. are, too. I attended the Madame Web red carpet screening, which you think would be the one place audience members would be on their best behavior, but the two women next to me were as bad as any toddler. They were on Instagram posting their red carpet photos for most of the movie and the lady next to me answered a FaceTime call during the final battle and showed the screen to whoever she was talking to. The teenagers sitting in front of me were much better behaved. It was insane!

I so agree when you said that the industry doesn't know how the rest of the country (or world) deals with movie theatres - of course their matinees in LA will have well behaved people, but try going to a movie theatre in Toronto on a busy week night - bright phone screens on, talking during the movie, laughing at inappropriate times, etc! Of course it doesn't happen all the time, but the fact that many people have these horror stories shows that this is a problem. It's why I'm a bit annoyed when some people in the industry kind of guilt trip audiences to watch in theatres cus it's the best way to view films and support the industry - yes, that's true and the big screen itself can be worth it, but try going with irritating and selfish strangers! That's why I get anxious when I DO book tickets cus you never know who will be at your screening. I'd love to support films in theatres more, but it's a risk now. I can't always go to weekday matinees with better behaved people due to my work schedule.

Saw him hitting his dab pen multiple times during the movie which people say are "odorless." That was the only major annoyance but I didn't come to an early IMAX showing to have to smell weed the whole movie because potheads dont think it's as socially taboo as smoking cigarettes indoors is. At 22 I managed one of the biggest nightclubs in New York City.. a club called sound factory.. One of the reasons I got promoted so fast was my ability to market the club and make the customer experience so good that they had to come back and bring friends. I tell you, if I ran a movie theater there would be people coming to the movie theater for the movie theater more than the movie.
I say that to say, these movie theater owners put no imagination into their space.
I would link up with local restaurants and businesses to have free samples, people in costumes, free giveaways, celebrity appearances, so many things that people would come to the theater for the theater and the movie would be the bonus

I don't think Furiosa is gonna do good only because I thought Furiosa came out this weekend since everyone dropped their review for Furiosa like a week ago ish and thought it came out this weekend. I was excited for Furiosa this weekend, but, only IF opened. This week the big movie that came out was The Strangers part 1 that I did go see. Now next week to me seems like Furiosa would have been out already for its second weekend. Did Furiosa come out last week all over the world except for the USA, and the USA is getting the movie a week late? I don't get it. It's giving Fall Guy, the way, where, Furiosa came out weeks ago already and now it was the movie of the week last week, if you didn't see Furiosa last week on opening weekend, I guess I might as well wait to see it on streaming.
