    Thank you Jonathan for the review and comparison. Would love to see a CSB PSQ review. I have one in the Tuscany. Really love the leather and the cover. Congratulations again on your engagement. Praying for the Lord to work powerfully in bringing everything together. 🙏

    If you don't mind my asking, what was it that turned you so strongly away from the ESV as a translation?

    • @WontonDisciple
      @WontonDisciple  11 місяців тому

      I disagree with the approach of the Critical Text in textual criticism. The ESV strongly leans into the same approach as a translation to that of the Critical editions of the New Testament text. I don't mind reading a translation whose philosophy is different to mine, though, if I believe their translator notes are transparent and relatively unbiased. The ESV's translator notes are not sufficient enough for me, personally, and I much prefer the BSB, NET, or CSB to the ESV for that reason alone. I also have small gripes with some of their translation choices, like departing from the traditional rendering of Genesis 3:15 (which their 2011 edition actually had, but they departed from it in their newest 2016 update), though that issue is not a stumbling block for me.
      All in all, it's a great translation. However, with it essentially being the most Critical Text bible that a bible can possibly be, by principle I often feel I shouldn't really engage with it like I used to.

      Thanks for the detailed response. I didn't realize the ESV was the most CT Bible of those who use the CT as their basis. I'm not sure exactly what that means either. I also love the CSB and hope to pick up a BSB in the future - perhaps when they offer more formats.@@WontonDisciple

    Hi brother, how's the paper thickness for marking and highlighting?

    • @WontonDisciple
      @WontonDisciple  Рік тому +1

      It's a thin paper, probably around 28 GSM. Highlighting will most likely cause the paper to get wavy, though underlining with a 01 or 005 pigma micron may work

      @@WontonDisciple I have ordered a CSB verse-by-verse reference Bible (leather touch). It looks like an affordable one of their goatskin versions. Will that have 28gsm paper as well?

      @@WontonDisciple Oh. Okay. However the goatskin version particularly mentions the paper quality but the leather touch version doesn't. Thanks for the reply! I have to wait for another 10 days for the Bible to reach me. Have ordered it from India.

      It's a traditional size for a thinline, so about 8.75x5.75x1

    Yeah I'm not a fan of the Bible Serif font at small or big sizes. At 10pt, it's perfect. At 8.5 or 9 it's too small in my opinion, and at 11pt+ it's too large (primarily because in the large print personal size, they pack it on the page and it overwhelms the eyes). I love the CSB thinline...I just wish it was more easily readable. They need a smidge more space between the lines. Your comparison with the ESV Buffalo really shows a difference in readability.

    • @WontonDisciple
      @WontonDisciple  11 місяців тому +1

      I agree for sure. Bible Serif definitely suffers at those different font sizes and the CSB thinline does look relatively cramped when compared to Crossway's ESV thinline.

    • @caomhan84
      @caomhan84 11 місяців тому

      @@WontonDisciple And since you asked in the review, I can say something about the genuine leather because I have the KJV thinline in their genuine leather. It's decent (not as good as the recent Thomas Nelson genuine leather). Tough, not very flexible, but you can throw it around and abuse it and it's fine. The CSB thinline in the leathersoft opens flatter, because the genuine leather is quite tight at the binding. But the font they use for the KJV at least is miles more readable than the CSB. It's darker and there's more space between the lines.
      That being said, I'm still a fan of the CSB thinline... It's just frustrating because if they made one or two changes it would be perfect.

      @@caomhan84 I agree with you...it's almost there with the best of the thinlines! Just not quite as readable, sadly.

      Just out of curiosity (& something I haven't seen anyone mention) have either of you compared the Bible Serif font of the CSB Ultrathin Reference (2017) to the Thinline 2020 editions? I cannot figure it out as of yet, but the 2017 font style somehow looks different (letters/words look more cramped together) vs the 2020 even though they're both in the Bible Serif! I'm thinking they cramped up the 2017 page cuz they only made the Ultrathin with the center column reference, there was no Thinline made without the references at that time. So for the 2020 they were able to spread the letters & words out more. Would love to see someone do a side by side comparison of the old vs new thinline bibles. It looks so different that I thought at first they created a whole new font for the 2020! 😮
      I much prefer the look of the 2020. If you don't like cramped, you wouldn't like the 2017.

    • @emelphick4742
      @emelphick4742 11 місяців тому

      I should also add that 2017 Ultrathin Reference was an 8.5 pt font (cramped) vs the 2020 in 9 pt (much better imo!).
