I have this exact same Bible and I very gradually rolled it and gently beat it up. Surprisingly, the binding did not give way. Now it is a bit more readable at the gutter though it is still the only sore point. It is otherwise a floppy bible with nice smooth flexible cover. I gave a review on Amazon too about this. After adding a light blue art gilt and 2 more ribbons, it has become my go-to bible for a large, clean readable single-column text. I have watched your review of the ESV Heritage in imitation leather and ordered one from eBay right away. I simply love clean uncluttered single-column text. I enjoy watching your reviews. Thank you 🙏
Hello brother Great review! I just received mine and there's no problems with the words going into the gutter The concordance is too small. They could have just kept the maps and more lined paper. Blessings to you and your family 🙏🙂
Overall, this is a highly readable format and was my first edition of the CSB. For single column text blocks, the font size, leading and line length are a home run. Yea, like the Clarion, gutter (eye) ball is a bummer, but it's not horrible. Great review. Keep 'em coming!
I always enjoy your reviews brother, pls keep them coming! I agree with you, that 2020 edition gutter ain't the greatest. Unless you really want the 2020, I’d recommend the brown "goatskin" (which is a bonded type leather) edition of this published in 2018, if you can find one. I have one and my gutter is not as bad as yours and I have no problems reading it, though I prefer to hold my bibles when I read, so I can easily just shift the block a bit as needed to read the end of the line. Some don't like that particular Holman goatskin from back then but I actually like it, haha. It gets so soft and floppy and that also helps open up the gutter more. I also noticed some differences in the 2018 vs your 2020 edition. Our Concordances are the same "atom" sized printing but on the opposite page where you showed us the blank page and ghosting, I have the Dry & Liquid table of measurements. Also your maps are the newer and "bluer" ones, vs mine are the previous brighter orange & yellows etc. So some things got an update. (The note paper is identical to yours too). Oh man, we're such bible nerds 😂!
That's a really helpful comparison! I actually had that same "goatskin" edition but gifted it to a close friend. I hadn't noticed the differences myself aside from the 2020 update.
Good review! I was thinking of getting this very same Bible and then you did a video on it! What timing! Thank you. :) I already have the CSB single column compact from Holman and in fact I have the exact same edition you have in brown leathertouch. But after watching your review, I think I'll stick with the compact edition and not get the personal size edition since I think I agree with you that the gutter might be a little annoying for me too. Thanks again for the review! :)
@@WontonDisciple It is probably the first ever Single-Column in such a compact size with good margins and yet readable.. (smaller than the Clarion and NKJV Compact Single-Column Ref cos it has no references). The imitation cover is also much better than the NKJV and at a lower price. It is hard to beat the value for the price point..
@@WillWee277 that's so true! I love the feel of the new Holman imitation leather covers. They seem like they'll be pretty durable. The only thing I wish they'd done for the compact is redesign the bible Serif typeface to look more natural as a smaller font (2K Denmark has done that before with their fonts depending on the bible). I find that it's a bit too bold for such a small font size.
@@WontonDisciple I just saw that it is already Bible Serif font designed and typeset by 2K Denmark. I like it bold cos I won’t be able to read otherwise for the small font with my old eyes :)
I would appreciate a link to your review of the *csb single column compact Bible? I looked, but didn't see it, but not all the titles of your video's are easy to know which one they are by what I can see on your list
I do like this, but I think it's worth holding out for the hand crafted one to be released in March 2024. In terms of the best single-column text, for me, would have to be the NRSV Standard Black hardback. Despite its super thin paper, its a pleasure to read, has a wonderful layout, and I'm happy to have one in my collection because it has been discontinued. :)
Unfortunately, even the handcrafted version still has the issue of the inner margins being too small, and the text going into the gutter. This doesnt bother me too much on double column Bibles. But on a single column, where im going from one side of the page to the other, it is kind of a bigger issue.
Just bought that one and the saddle. I’m ocd and I’ve already got two other navy touch so… anyway do you know if there is a single column reference in the CSB? I have the thinline reference and it’s nice but I do prefer single column (and my older eyes like a generous font). Blessings!
I don't know of any single column reference editions from the CSB yet, unless you're willing to get a study bible like the CSB Baker Illustrated Study Bible.
They took wide margin block and simply shrunk it/ removed margin space. Seems like the block was not designed to work with cover and spine reinforcement. It’s a bummer.
The problem with ALL Holman bibles, no matter how well they are sewn or what paper they are on, is, yes, their use of paper liners on everything except their handcrafted/goatskin bibles. Those paper liners rip FAST. Doesn’t matter if they are reinforced. They will rip all around the perimeter in no time. Man Holman just use vinyl. Charge an extra buck, and give us Bibles that can last a little while!

Great review! I never thought about it, but when you pointed the gutter issue, I prefer more space. TFS! 🤗

I really love the layout for that bible, too. Definitely a solid release that deserves to be rereleased, but sadly won't be.

@@wisconsinwoodsman1987 it really is, though they've done so well with the NASB2020 edition. Hopefully they update the CSB typesetting soon.

I have seen a few Bibles that were almost perfect completely ruined by poor gutter space.
It's one of my biggest gripes! It's very unfortunate
