From the video, but watch for the explanations! 1. Red letter 2. Verse by verse 3. Stacked ribbons 4. Fake reader's Bibles 5. Translator's notes and cross references mixed together rather than kept separate 6. Floppy bibles 7. Bibles without footnotes or with condensed footnotes in order to show all the manuscript differences between critical text, majority text, textus receptus, etc. 8. Small gutter margin 9. Overly tight binding leading to overly stiff Bible. 10. Cheap plastic feeling paper.
Agreed with almost every point and I’ve been doing this for 27yrs now lol. We didn’t have too many of these options when I first started in ‘97. Nice channel!
#1 Agreed on red letter. Few publishers can even do it right, but some red print fades over the years. Sometimes it cooks your retinas and sometimes it is too light. Great vid as usual. Things I don't like: -Ghosting -Glare on the pages -Super thin paper because ghosting, page curl and tear.
I can relate to a lot of these as I share them myself. I don’t like red letter just because, but my go to reason is that the original text wasn’t color coded😂 I love single column, and to disagree, that does include verse by verse. However I think of them more in terms of preaching bibles if you like to use single column. Great thoughts!
👍🙏🏻🥁 The gutter space. We need our gutter space. That, and incorrect FONT sizes! I’ve had to send back a few awesome Bibles. I’m 57 yrs old. So, my eyes strain more nowadays. I’ve actually been enjoying the NKJV, EVANGELICAL STUDY BIBLE. It’s great for a “lap” Bible. Liberty University put that one together. Thanks for the great review!
I’m totally with you on fake readers bibles, especially those with section headings! Like what’s the point? Just make it a single column then! Not a fan of red letter either. I’ll beware of stacked ribbons from now on and avoid thin gutters. Thanks for the tips!
The blue letter bible is for people that can't see the red because they're colorblind but still want the words of Christ to stand out from the rest of the text.
I enjoyed your video very much. (I am a first-time viewer.) The feature that I dislike is the price. I don't mind spending money on a good Bible, but there aren't Christian bookstores near me, so I cannot see a Bible in-person. As you stated, some premium Bibles are expensive and have features that you may not like. But you don't know about all of them until you have the Bible in hand. I also dislike ghosting, bleed-through pages, thin paper (especially the type of paper that is almost like newsprint), too many colors on the pages (chapter verse numbers, chapter headings, first letters, Jesus' words, etc., all in different colors), floppy or too tight cover/binding, too big of a yapp, Bible won't stay flat, only one ribbon, and Jesus' words in red or blue.
I share your sentiments on most of these, but red letter REALLY irks me because it so often makes the text harder to read unless in ideal lighting conditions. Even then it still basically sucks.
Agree on the uber floppy Bibles. Some reviewers are so enthralled with covers that are "like butter," doing "Bible yoga" and rolling it back on itself, that they ignore how difficult it is to read without a desk or podium to set it on. "But it's lambskin, goat skin, so supple ..."
@@johndeorian6654 snyderssoapbox gives pretty good reviews of Bibles. He reviews the Legacy Standard Bible in hardcover (Dec 15, 2021). Crossway also has the E.S.V. Panorama New Testament in hardback but it looks like they only have the NT and it is a large Bible. Crossway has a number of ESV Bibles with cloth over board covers. I started out using an Ryrie Study Bible (NASB) and then transitioned to an NIV Study Bible -- both hard backs. On Christianbook they have ESV Bibles in hard back and it looks like they're all Study Bibles. If you're looking for a non-Study Bible layout, you might consider an ESV with the type of paper, text size and type, format, etc that you like and then send it off to a binder like Leonard's and ask if they can/will make you a hardcover with leather. It might cost a bit but will wear for a long time with leather. This might send you down the trail of Bible binders :)
@@WontonDisciple It's like he got it from my grandma in 2011 for the 400th anniversary of the KJV so it's not like I can ever get rid of it. But it's so big and floppy it won't even sit on a desk without the top cover kinda sliding off itself. It's like a liquid lol.

I just found your channel today and wish I would have found it earlier because you are a cool guy! 😊
Oh man, that's so nice 😭😭😭 thank you for the kind comment!

Double column is more fitting for a vbv layout in my opinion. Thanks for your kind comment!

Have you tried a blue letter Bible? I know it’s similar to a red letter version but I personally really like it.
I do have a few blue letter bibles! Definitely much much better than red letter but still not ideal.

I have come to love end of verse reference and for me the blue letter hurts my eyes

It's horrendous! I wish it wasn't so popular
@@WontonDisciple it also begs the question, “are the words in red more important and/or more inspired than the words in black?”

So true! Glad you can relate
This.
Any recommendations for nice ESV that isn't floppy? I got a Schuyler Quentel and it's way too floppy.

I absolutely cannot stand small gunner margins.
I would prefer all bibles to be verse by verse. My fav. I usually go between the kjv, nkjv and nasb
No floppy bibles
They all have amazing verse by verse bibles! I'm glad you found what you enjoy 😎
Haha i just inherited my dad's kjv Bible. This thing is like 7 pounds and so floppy.
That'd be my personal nightmare! That's so fun, though. There's always something special about a bible that's been passed down.
