I discovered Bible nerditry at the beginning of this year and am now hooked. Bible collecting, the world of study bibles, premium bibles, multiple formats, all the different translations, I love every bit of the topic and community.

There are worse addictions to have. There is also a possibility of donating a bible to an overseas ministry. I sent a couple of Thompson Chain Reference bibles to a couple in Mexico. You would have thought I sent a box of gold.

My perfect bible would be a 1611 kjv tough leather with Thomas chain references large print .With blank pages in back for notes.With high quality zipper.Ten commandments engraved on front.
i've got the fake leather version of the csb handcrafted one, i think the book block is the same between the two and the paper is amazing as well. the firebrick red and blue/silver edges on your new one looks so good great looking combo

Congrats! I get what you mean by "wanting to put your face on it"...when it's good paper and ink, it's so smooth, and smells so good! I've made heirloom Bibles for each of my sons, my commentaries within. Love that you mentioned you've done that! I'm an ESV fan, so looking forward to searching out my "Forever" Bible. (Always been so busy with working in my sons'!) Thanks for sharing.
I know the feeling my Handcrafted CSB verse by verse I have been grinding in for my daughter, I think leaving behind torn up bibles for our families is a great testimony

Wow, I'd had no idea these existed. I found one on eBay that was $975! I remember when I was a teen (long ago) and saving for weeks to buy a Dake's Annotated. I'm no longer a fan of that version, but I was geeking out way back when. I'll have to keep an eye out for these.

I love your passion for the Bible and for having a quality reproduction of the word of God in your hands. For many years I preferred double-column because that's what I grew up with. After having gone to single-column format I won't use anything else. Both of my pulpit bibles (I serve two churches) are single-column and so is my primary daily bible which is the Reformation Study Bible (ESV/Compact bound in premium leather). Once you read the Psalms/Wisdom literature and Prophets in single-column you'll never go back.
I do love the single format lay out, the hard part is the alot of them are thick bibles and make it hard for me to carry around day to day.
You can’t go wrong with a Schuyler Bible, like you said they’re heirloom quality
And if you can afford one I would highly suggest you pick one up!

I’m commenting for two reasons- first the algorithm. Maybe my comment will help someone else find the channel. Second, I LOVE your enthusiasm. Maybe one day I’ll find a way to visit your church and we can be geeks about Bibles.
I’m a bit of a collector but haven’t yet taken the plunge to the top level. But most of my collecting is to have different versions for comparison and the different study Bibles for their unique perspective. (My favorites are NASB2020 and the HCSB- still seems like a new translation to me but already pushed aside by CSB)
I totally agree I am “collecting” to have translations for reference as well as different study Bible!

I love my LSB Bible. Takes getting used to, as it uses unique translation principles, but it really gives deep insight into the original languages. The more I read it the more I like it. Ordered the handy size hard back when they first came out, but recently ordered the giant print reference (14pt), which also includes translation notes.

@@bhcleadp2577 It weighs 2 pounds according to the online listing, about the same as my other regular Bibles. The savings comes from no wasted space on the pages. All references and notes are in paragraph form at the bottom of the page, instead of having a separate column down the side with a lot of blank space. As a comparison, the LSB Inside Column Reference edition weighs about 3.5 pounds. I think the font in that one is around 11 point.

Your speaking my language brother! I actually reach for my End of Verse Reference NKJV brown goatskin Bible more than my Cambridge Topaz. It’s a joy to use and the perfect size imo! My second preferred translation is the CSB which I have in the VBV setting, single column compact, and the large print personal size (my favorite even over the VBV). Unfortunately, I can’t read Schuyler Bibles very well due to the paper. I had dyslexia as a child and certain settings can cause me eye strain and headaches. Next spring Holman is releasing new colors in their handcrafted line and they will be adding their single column personal size in a marbled slate calfskin. Really looking forward to that! That’s a really nice Bible. I like that page layout. I can keep up with the way those chapters are laid out. I’m a KJV guy but I’m like you are, read what you are comfortable reading.
Thank you for your enthusiasm for the Bible. A well made Bible is a good investment! How many English Bibles are there? Things that are different are not the same! In 2011 I believe I was led to study the King James Bible which I believe to be the perfect word of God for the English speaking people. I had read the NIV for some 40 years but I came across a facsimile of a 1611 Zbible and started reading it. So I started studying the KJV. Most Christians I personally kno do not really read it but I am convinced the KJV is perfect. Please pray about this matter especially as a young Christian pastor. May God blesss you and your family. @@bhcleadp2577 It's the Large print edition of the NLT study bible... it's not that hard to get alone but I want to rebound it first before sending it to the PH since their only option is hardcover and it's not smyth sewend so rebounding it may add to its longevity... since I know ill be using it everyday 😆

I’m eagerly awaiting the ESV Stridon. Maybe they will make it in the CSB. It seems to have more room for notes.

I use CSB to understand the tougher books in the bible. Right now i am using it for Isaiah. I understand it better and it is so much easier to read through.
That’s why I love it, it has helped so many of our church members understand the word. And helped them engage with it

It just such a unique color
I wanted to find a OKJB and Along time ago I was passing a Salvation Army store and I ask if they had a Old King James Bible and there was one used Bible in the store and it was a Old KJB . They told me just keep it for no charge but I left $ 10 for donation .
Then later on , a few years later I wanted to find a NKJB and one day I was at a discount store that’s real popular and I found one Bible in the whole store and it was a NKJB , Study Bible with helpful commentary .
Brand new original price was $65 but it was marked down to $25 . I don’t really believe in coincidence . Mind you I live in Hawaii were christian stores hardly exist . And I try not to mail order . KJB s are just my personal preference . Thank you and Peace . 🙏

I just bought a faux leather “travel Bible” for $30 from Amazon that’s small in size and has a zipper around it so I can keep it zipped in my backpack or suitcase and the pages won’t get bent or crushed. But for home use, I’m still in search of my perfect Bible. I want nice maps and quality paper that I can highlight and make notes on without bleed-thru.

I've always been into study bibles. A couple years ago I got into premium bibles. My dream Bible was custom made by AE bibles yellow goatskin Cultural Background Study Bible. My favorite store bought premium Bible is the Humble Lamb. Haven't found another Bible anywhere with the fore edge gilt and words of Christ in blue.
I love the words of Christ in blue and the beautiful gilt from humble lamb! I would love alto do a rebind someday but it is a ways off

Not my preferred translation and I'm really into single columns. However that's a matter of personal preference and what is not a matter of personal preference is that this is gorgeous and well worth the money. If you beat it up and glue it back together it will look even more interesting with the wear. Keep it for yourself and get your daughter one of her own to grow with. You need to stop looking to your wife to approve things, she will come around if you captain the ship and lose some weight. Teach your flock by example, not by asking for their permission or ordering that they follow. Best of luck out there.

I preach from a calfskin nkjv preachers Bible. Verse by verse. I also have a church Bible publishers water Buffalo wide margin that I love. CBP is great for the price if someone wants a KJV that don’t break the bank. I’ve been wanting a RL Allen for years
As far as premium I preach out of a csb Schuyler quentel, then I study out of a Holman hand crafted csb wide margin verse by verse. I was also recently gifted a Schuyler Canterbury wide margin in KJV. And a couple random nicer bibles from my grandfathers passing and when I was a kid but I’m not sure what they are

@@bhcleadp2577 prayers for you as a pastor too man. I’m in my 5th year. We planted a church in our small town in Kentucky called “Oasis Church of God”. It’s been a journey starting from scratch. We are currently in a storefront. I was an evangelist before this and that was easier 😂

I'm talking about my experience from being a hard core coffee drinker for 45 years. I travel a lot and drove a lot in the US and in Mexico and Brazil and 25 Countries in Europe.
Also did Uber and all the delivery companies like Postmates Instacart etc.
Until one day in 2019 when i was feeling light headed and dizzy and went to the Hospital where my Blood pressure was 180 over 100 with rapid a heart pulse.
I went out of there for i don't like Hospitals and went to my car and asked the Lord to take away my addiction to coffee and to overcome appetite.
I thank Him for helping me and answering my prayer.
God is good all the time and Jesus is coming for his Holy Commandment keeping people.
I have a lot of study bibles and yes I have a csb goat skin bible. That is the only bible I have goat skin
I don't think they have the CSB but I feel that Cambridge Bibles are the best made Bibles. I know they have NIV, KJV and ESV.
Everything I have seen about the Cambridge stuff is amazing
Here in the U.K. they are readily available, I have just bought my first premium Bible, the Cambridge Topaz large print (old bones!!!) reference Bible in black calfskin (ESV). Absolutely fantastic and worth every penny! Blessings from U.K.
The zondervan Nov is the zondervan is the only niv I own
The closest thing I have that's is like a premium Bible is a 1914 Oxford's Longprimer.

I liked the Westminster but gave it as a gift to my dad, it will be missed but is an amazing bible.

Don’t be fooled by what is called “genuine leather”. Genuine leather is just the shaved top grain of a piece of leather. You want full grain leather. Schuylers use full grain goat and calf skin leather. So do all of the premium Bible makers like Allan. Full Grain leather can last many lifetimes if cared for properly. Again, don’t be fooled by “genuine leather”. Hopefully this helps someone.

For reading I go verse by verse for preaching I go paragraph. It was weird at first but I got used to it.
However growing up on the KIV verse by verse feels very comfortable

There is only one Bible. You buy one for the contents, not the cover. The New Testament was written in a spoken dialect of Greek, so there are many translations. If you have several Bibles, you are making some unavailable to others. Beware of choosing a translation for the wrong reasons.The KJV was for centuries the standard, but it is just another translation, and the English language has changed greatly since then. Shakespeare died during James's reign, and the same differences can be seen in his plays. One can buy "modern English" versions of them, for similar reasons.
