My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.

When Dr Now “snaps” is more of a “I’m going to use my stern monotone with the most blunt terms I can use to drill the message”. He is so direct that it’s not necessary for him to shout.
The most he has yelled at someone was at James King and his feeder girlfriend.

They aren't just overweight. Most of them are morbidly obese. They just look small in comparison.

Not fat shaming, I’ve been overweight most of my life, but every time I watch this show I wonder how these people got this big! I’m 5’4” and a couple months ago I hit my heaviest weight ever, 280 pounds. My back, my hips, my knees, ankles, feet hurt like hell. It had gotten so hard to do anything, everything! I sat on a short stool to clean something on the floor, and when I went to get up, I couldn’t! My legs weren’t strong enough to hoist myself up and there was nothing to grab onto. I ended up having to get on my bare arthritic knees on a concrete floor and crawling a few feet to reach a chair that I could use to pull/push myself up on. That was it for me. I never wanted to have surgery or take drugs for my weight problem, but now that I’m in my 60s I no longer have the muscle to move around 280 pounds, so I made an appointment with my doctor and discussed all these new weight loss drugs. I’m already on my second one which I probably won’t continue due to the cost and the side effects, but I’m down 14 pounds and I’ve been keeping myself very active in my garden so I am already able to move better. How these people manage to get to 6, 7, 8, 900 pounds and still be able to walk even enough to get to the bathroom is beyond my comprehension.

    • @beverlyanne5192

Its because they dont do anything..hardly any walking ..mental issues rule , sadly 😮

Make sure to eat plenty of lean protein, get supplements for it if you have to, and start gently working out your muscles, just doing squats at your weight would be enough to strengthen your leg muscles.
It will be slower to build muscle at 60, but not impossible. getting the right amount of protein would be the hardest. (They recommend 1.5 grams per KG)
doing excercise for your back will also alleviate back pain, as much of that pain is caused by muscle weakness and fatigue in your back. (at least in most cases)
Also walking. walk as much as possible (no running). it will help you lose weight, and clear up your mind. (may sound weird but it is true)

They got to 500lbs the same way you got to 280lbs and the same way I got to 180lbs - eating too much junk. I'm sure they say about someone at 800lbs "how did they let themselves get to that point". We both know gaining weight is too easy to do.

I was in the same way that some of these people are, I topped off at 420 before seeing a a bariatric doc. I was told to follow a diet to lose weight before the surgery. Lost 60 lbs in 3 months and got the sleeve procedure. Lost another 100 lbs after the surgery and mostly kept it off. It's hard, but these people disgust me with all these excuses. "...all they have to do is balance and correct their relationship with food." Nope, doesn't work as magically as that. I'm overweight---absolutely nowhere near what any of these people weigh, and PCP is very encouraging as I slowly lose the weight---and I know firsthand that there is nobody, and there is nothing, that is going to make a person change how they feel about food, especially if there are things that make one feel really good when eating it.
Rehab would not give the overeater "hope" because nobody would talk about their overeating to "get to the cause of their dietary issues. For instance, I know perfectly well why I overate for decades, but I'm sure as the world not going to let anyone other than my sister know (she isn't about to share it with anyone), and definitely NOT sharing anything with strangers!!

To those in other countries wondering why Americans get like this - It's a combination of things. First off, we have to use a car to get almost anywhere. Things are so spread out that you almost HAVE to have a car unless you live in a big city, and even then public transport is not the best.
We also have poisoned food. When I went to London, I noticed that some things I eat here in the US are outlawed there. I ate just as much as I do here, but I lost a ton of weight by walking almost everywhere.
There are even food deserts here where people can only get fast food (high calorie and bad for you). Trying to find a store that sells affordable healthy stuff can be hard.

Here in the States they often receive welfare, food stamps, they bum money or food (or both) from friends and family, someone goes to the food banks and takes food other people genuinely need, things like that. A lot of them very likely also buy huge quantities of very cheap food from the many Dollar stores we have here.

I’m 10 lbs overweight and I’m freaking out! I can’t understand these people. If you look at people in the 60s and 70s no one was fat. It’s the process food, the fast food industry. There used not be that many fast food places in the past. No there is one on every corner it seems. We have a generation that has grown up eating that crap. Have you also noticed that the doctor may need a little help himself.

A empty Piper Super Cub weighs 890~ lbs dry, empty standard.
A Kawasaki Ninja 650 weighs around 450~lb wet.
These people are heavier than these two objects.
    That's absolutely insane.
The average person can lift a spare tire. If it's a 16 inch plus a jack, that's around 30-40 lbs. You lift it like it's nothing. In fact, most of you probably can lift 25 lbs without so much as a huff or a glance. Thats how much some of these people must lose weight.
That spare tire compared to a small airplane or a motorcycle is like nothing. It doesn't even glance it.
70 lbs? That's a bag and a half of horse feed. I could lift that, with a bit of a grunt. This person has to lose that much weight. Just imagine that weight on your shoulder, that's tough enough. I couldn't imagine touring that around a Walmart all day. That's even with a body weight of 170-230 for some of you.
All that on your bones, muscles, etc. I see why they always want to sit around all day..some of them are carrying a motorcycle on their body. Some a whole ass airplane!
Some of you even, 2x 50 lbs of horse feed.

I'm in a bariatric program now and luckily I don't have to lose any weight to continue the program. I was given 6 months to see if I could lose weight by myself but if I continue to have trouble then I can still have the surgeon. Fat sticks to me,even with proper diet and exercising. My doctor mentioned it's my genetics as well as having my thyroid removed and the birth control I'm on. I'm praying for everyone who might be going through things like this.

@@Hipppy1001 that's exactly what I'm saying. I can't afford weight loss medication and I workout consistently. My diet contains fruits, vegetables and lean meats. I have not lost any weight only gained. So that's why I am going through a bariatric program
