    My 600-lb Life is an American reality television series that has aired on the TLC television network since 2012. Each episode follows a year in the life of morbidly obese individuals, who usually begin the episode weighing at least 600 pounds (270 kg), and documents their attempts to reduce their weight to a healthy level. Update episodes, called "Where Are They Now?", feature one or more previous patients, picking up a year or more after their original episodes aired.
    Patients are placed under the care of Iranian-American Houston surgeon Younan Nowzaradan (often referred to as simply "Dr. Now"), who first has them attempt losing weight on their own by following a strict diet, and then depending on the patient's progress may offer gastric bypass surgery or sleeve gastrectomy to further assist in weight loss.

      @@transittimes2008 Maintain weight at theresize? I'm an athlete and eat more than 4000 calories and am 215. I lift very heavy weights, run, and am very active. People in the 700 pound range eat close between 10 and 15 thousand calories a day in most cases. 4000 is nothing for a strong athletic person who's a big guy and active. I wasn't sure what you were saying. I would bet that the average person who's 350 and sits around eats between 5000-7000 calories a day. It all depends on the person. I know every one of these people eats at least double 4000 calories a day, that's at the very minimum.

    A couple things I have noticed is that men who are above seven hundred pounds often are able to walk. Where women up in the six fifty or plus range are usually not ambulatory. Also, these people eat as much as twelve thousand calories a day, ten times the amount the Doctor recommends. But, if they ate three one thousand calorie meals a day, even fast food, there woud be a significant weight loss.
    I do empathize that many of these people suffered traumatic circumstances. And I would never want to trivialize abuse. However, many people have suffered the same things. They are not unique. Some people cannot get help and yet manage to overcome their addictions or destructive behaviours to become healthy on their own. I wish everyone could have a Dr. Now type person to help them too.
    Edit - I wonder if any of the other family members who are obese use the information from the Doctor to improve themselves?

      The children--both girls and boys--at the church I go to have good manners and hold open the doors for other people entering the church.
      I hold doors open for people, too. Some of the rudest people are women who let the door smack me in my face.
      What bothers me in these episodes are the atrocious table manners some of the people have. So many people don't even know how to use forks and spoons properly. It's stomach churning at times.

      @Antares2 4 місяці тому +4

      Whoa, impressive, but dropping that much that quickly is not safe at your size. I agree that these huge people could probably lose that quickly as they are 600+, but at 205, you should probably aim for no more than 1-2 pounds per week to stay in the safe range. If your numbers are correct, you lost more than 4 pounds per week which puts the body under a lot of stress and at risk for a whole host of risk factors.
      The problem with these people in the video is that they are all completely addicted to food. It's like a drug for them. I get annoyed too by watching them not even try to follow the diet, but I try to remember that they have a lot of mental problems that are the cause of their size to begin with.

      I feel like anyone who's 500 pounds plus is going to be on painkillers. Do you realize how miserable you would be and how much pain you would be in at that weight? Everyday and every second is going to feel unbearable, yet you have to deal with it. They also have the potential for addiction. It's a mental and psychological disorder. Drug addiction and food addiction are very very similar in the brain.
