Contrasting the mundanity of normal human life with the doctor's life is a common theme in RTD's era and fast food is just an effective signifier for the former
I like the chip motif in the first Davies era. Almost as much as the chicken motif. The Ninth Doctor mentions chickens in World War Three and The Empty Child, and in Parting Of The Ways, it cuts from the Dalek emperor to a shot of some rotisserie chickens and it foreshadows him calling himself a coward, a chicken, if you will.
So glad clips from Classic Who are included too as chips weren't mentioned as often as in New Who. And some people tend not to bother with Classic Who at all.
yep. I saw this and thought 'there'll be a couple of eccleston ones' and thought of bill etc, then thought there's probably a few more mentions I missed. * minutes in I'm thinking wtf, WTF? checked the time... we're not half way through. I am now sick of the word 'chips'
@@wtfmcgurk6315 it wore off very quickly. because you're on a diet I'm not going to tell you what I'm having for dinner tonight. Like, if I said I'm having chips and sausage and peas with lots of ketchup and a lovely big mug of tea it might affect your resolve and we don't want that.
It was one of several moments I chose not to include because chips were on screen but weren't actually being mentioned in dialogue. There's also a conversation in "World enough and Time" where Twelve and Bill eat chips while discussing Missy and one from "The Lost Boy" in Sarah Jane adventures which I agonised over whether to include because it mentions a chip shop but never mentions chips.
@@wtfmcgurk6315 Can we have the super cut? It would really help my essay on the use of chips as a grounding device against the fantasy and madness of travelling through space and time
Please make more episodes like these, I'm sure there are other things (bananas, pears, fruit come to my mind) lkle this as well haha It's both hilarious and makes me want to rewatch everything!

Such an atrocious actor. There are hundreds of black actors everywhere if chibnall wanted to be diverse, but he manages to cast one that has as much acting experience as a potato
Impressive work. Now I know why Ncuti's first series wasn't the best. It was lacking chips. There better be some chippy action in the next one or else.

On an episode to chips ratio I still think Eccleston wins 😉
Which is surprising because chips are actually plot relevant to both School Reunion and Bill's arc in general.
@@wtfmcgurk6315 True and I haven't done the maths to confirm my suspicions, it's only because Eccleston has less episodes overall
New Who is oddly obsessed with chips...
I think rtd must really like chips

"I got chips thooooo!" is unironically one of the funniest moments in the Chibnall era! 😂
Can't believe they went over a decade and 3 eras before mentioning chips smh

Sarah Jane...where she goes, chips are sure to follow
Doctor Who fans are so funny
Amazing video. But what about the ultimate chips mention, "Man With Chips" from The Bells of Saint John? Maybe he never actually *mentions* chips

Crazy that in 26 years of Classic Who they only mentioned chips three times.
thank you for your important researches. this is important knowledge.
Chips are the five letter word symbol of Great Britain itself 😁😆😆😆

Because Chips bond us Brits together like nothing else! Chippy chips are the best
