Very few shows that can still get you each time you see them.. You know the joke, you know punch line... you know when it's going to happen and it STILL gets you laughing each time.. A completely lost art in today's TV.
So true, listening to the utterly horrendous canned laughter on most TV 'sitcoms' and I'm thinking where is the gag, sure, there;s the odd chuckle but most of it would fall flat on its arse if it got a run out first over here and be canned by the TV companies as being utter crap. There's a few UK comedies that are okay but some of it like 'Miranda' is just unfunny and overly contrived.
You know what the really clever thing is? Throughout the whole episode we don't hear Tony say ANY word containing the letter R so as not to spoil the big reveal!

John Sullivan is a writing genius, as this scene is absolutely hilarious. I just love the way Raquel looks at Tony when he comes on stage and then sings and we'll the rest is comedy history.
What always cracked me up was the genius in John Sullivan’s writing and the interaction between Del and Rodney ,it was so funny , the whole cast of characters just made this without doubt the funniest show ever.
Everything is done as a proper cabaret, everyone dressed up. Quiet as she sings, her voice is pure. Then he comes in looking over the top but can hit the notes....but has one slight issue. Again no one laughs its just shock! Genius
I still don't know whether that was deliberate, or an actual mistake they just kept in because it's funny. If it was a genuine cock-up then Tessa Peake Jones recovered beautifully.
The fact that I'm laughing as soon as he comes out on stage. The joke aint even set yet and im in tears hahaha. As soon as it was sang, I was dead. Aint seen this ep in so long. Was a great refresher
I don't know how they can all keep a straight face with this and when Raquel accidentally says cwying. I find this so funny. This is 1 of my favourite episode's
Everything about this is fantastic. However, probably overlooked by most people is the musical arrangement, particularly the great piano arrangement and superb pianist. The piano melody throughout is beautiful.
I just wish the BBC would finally release all the episodes to buy, fully uncut with original music, no censorship, no removed scenes. The show deserves a full uncut release. There’s scenes and dialog which have never been seen or only aired during the original broadcast. It’s about time we got a definitive release with nothing removed.
I used to have loads of uncut episodes of OFAH on VHS years ago, recorded them all off the telly. I wish I'd transferred them onto hard drive now as the tapes eventually deteriorated so bad i had to throw them all out. What a plonker!
@@dclark988 The Jolly Boys outing had a whole sequence cut out because of a song the nightclub singer was singing prior to Raquel and the Great Ramondo appearing on stage.
The real genius of this joke is that you dont see it coming. The focus throughout the show is Tony's outdated image and style and you are drawn in by that. You just dont expect the speech impediment coming and delivered in such a sombre song too. Hillarious.
Totally awesome and hilarious. I have watched the entire episode over and over, and never fail to hose myself at this part. Total brilliance from John Sullivan. RIP.
What gets me is Rodney's smirk. So often he's been stood up and made to look a fool by Del. Now he has payback on a huge scale that he never saw coming
My cousin Rob is standing as an extra at the bar behind and between Del Boy and Rodney. He’s been immortalised on this classic clip filmed in Bristol. Lucky man!
