Those gaps/holes can easily be filled with clear epoxy on a table top

We would fill the wood with clear epoxy. People LOVED to look at it and wanted to BUY it that way.
Tree trunks make FANTASTIC legs for glass table tops. This is one of the MOST BEAUTIFUL WOOD. THANK YOU LORD. Just PERFECT.

You could fill the gaps with colored resin, glass/plastic chips or maybe even sand & covered that with clear resin. Some look kind of like a river running through the wood. They were stunning.

That would be beautiful with epoxy in the holes. Either clear or a beautiful accent color

I was thinking the same thing. I have seen some beautiful tables where those areas were filled with bluish green epoxy and made to look like a river. Very cool!

Please do not put the cedar saw dust around your chickens cedar is poison to chickens when we started with chickens the livestock store told us to never use cedar shaving around the chickens.

I'm in BC, Canada where we have LOTS of Western Red Cedar... it's an amazing wood, full of surprises!... I recently cut a 4ft diameter log on my Woodland 126...It had several large checks in it, half a dozen big ugly knots plus it had a lot of centre rot... only good for kindling I thought. I ripped it in half with a powersaw and decided to try it on the mill. WOW!! surprise, surprise! .. the knots were tight, grain had more twists 'n turns than I could shake a stick at and the whole log (14ft) had many different shades of red. A beautiful log which was left behind by a logging outfit because it was a rotten piece of junk!!!

I know several people have mentioned the carcinogen aspect of cedar sawdust and suggest wearing a mask. It is wise to wear a mask when sawing ALL woods. The dust enters the lungs and can bring with it molds, fungus, etc. In addition the sawdust is an irritant to the lung lining and over time causes increases mucus production and scarring. This can lead to chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Just an FYI. Love the way Alex and you work so well together.

Loving the saw mill videos ya'll and I really want to get a saw mill once we get our land. Just remember that most if not all rough cut lumber is in whole numbers not fractional numbers. Once they are planed smooth they will become fractional. Still this cedar is super awesome and I can't wait to see all of the projects that come from it other than Jason's tiny house.

I love the look and smell of cedar. Everything that G-D creates is perfect. It may not always be exactly what you had in mind, but its purpose was for something else. Just like a painting. It starts as one thing and turns into something else. I would love any scraps you have. I'd find a purpose for them. Your so graced with its bounty. Be creative. G-D Bless and Stay Safe.

If you wanted to use the piece you showed us, some people havw done beautiful tops, by dremiling out the defect, and adding turquious stones[small pieces to fill it in then clear resin the whole top. Abosolutely gorgeous when they do it.

👍👍👍. One of the most beautiful treasures I have from my great gram is a Hope Chest my great gramps made for her from cedar when she agreed to marry him. Been handed down and still looks like it just made along with the smell. Found his doodlings in books of hand bound paper with great detail on how to deal with rot in those days. His soon to be wife would make sachets out of special cloth and fill them with the sawdust for drawers and storage etc. Uses endless on a farm. Snakes fleas and ticks hate it. Even some critters too. The table he made was 2” thick and pieced together with the best part of the wood. So many designs in it you’d just stare and stare. In the center he made a huge heart just like two small hearts on Chest that came together naturally. Eventually I had a friend who hand builds furniture take them and restore the finish to last for generations to come. But he kept the knicks and unique finds on the table that showed history and the hard work it’d been through. I can only say that it’s VERY heavy and no rot to be found and planks pieced together just like keys. Sometimes you have to do something different to give the wood a chance to bloom. Took my great gramps 6 years to complete that table that is now mine. And yes I still have my drawers and linens filled with those same sachets great gram made. You both are so creative and hills filled with beautiful “gold”. That wood will speak to you just like my great gramps notes would say. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍

It's brilliant everytime you open a log up and mill it . Seeing the colours and grain -knowing what it will look like when finished after drying. .
And knowing that you are the first person ever to see what nature has given us in each tree... and then to have the joy of turning it into something beautiful.
It's a big part of the rewards to milling
