- Sea fishing in the Cornwall can offer some wonderful species to catch if you can find them. I am constantly exploring new areas, new wrecks and learning new ways to find fish. Today whilst fishing a reef I was boarded and inspected by local fisheries officers. I then show you how to fillet and prepare our catch and take you home for a delicious seafood meal with my family.
Here are links to some of the tackle that I used in this video. I hope it helps.

Have a wonderful day everyone. Let me know where you’re watching from? 😊👍🏻
Hello. I am from Turkey
Surrey UK, love your videos mate
Poole dorset
Pattaya Thailand
Stourbridge uk
My dad used to take me fishing when I was younger. He died earlier this year, and I went fishing with his old fishing buddy in homage. I remembered how much I enjoyed it, and I’ve been bingeing your videos ever since. I’m now planning a trip in a few weeks to the sea to get out! Taking dad’s old rod out :)
Good man.
My Dad isnt well. Just something we all go through I guess.
Have to remember them for who they were and what they gave you😉
It's amazing how big he has gotten. I started watching the channel right before he got sick that one time and now he's a big healthy boy.
Thanks John it was nice to see James doing his preparation for his meal, to many young people do not know how to cook these days, I don't think James will be one of them, especially with his name sake, you, and his mother all teaching him, looks like you and the wife is doing a grand job.
It gives me such pleasure to see Jame’s growth. I can remember when he wouldn’t touch a fish let alone eat it. And now he’s even following in Grandad’s steps and cooking them. Well done mate. Keep it up.
James' palette has come quite a long ways over the years! Eating cuttle fish, and whatnot. Good lad.
Hi John. I'm from Kent but am on holiday in Cornwall. Due to the weather I have only managed 2 trips so far. Had a tuna trip(licensed skipper)yesterday and caught a good size tuna which was unbelievable. I wish more boats were checked especially back in Kent. Cornwall is my favourite place to fish. Regards
John - I would have taken the opportunity to ask questions concerning your loss of lobster traps and the Fisheries continuing efforts to reduce theft and trap predation.
Fisheries are just making sure we have fish left to catch, and at a local level they are probably fishermen themselves. Nice video.
Always enjoy ,lots of smiles and no negativity!Well done ,much love and admiration!North Carolina,USA
The Devon name, Hannah, is Gribbles, after the tiny wood-boring worms sometimes found on old fishing boats! A good scoop of Gribbles with take away fish and chips definitely stretched the meal to feed a family! Not the healthiest, but it was a once in 6 months thing!
Great fishing, John!
And James can come cook for me any time! xxx
Thanks for the video my friend. I was born in Harrisburg PA and landed in Middletown PA to watch this and your dinner looked unbelievable. Happy days
I’ve been bingeing your videos ever since.
Fantastic when you see the fish ready to eat, and the scraps are known as gribbles
It certainly did end up a lovely sunny day ! That was a mouthwatering feast at the end !!! 😉🏴👍 Cheers John
well iv been watching long enough to see myself learn about, purchase and use my own small fishing boat but sadly time and disabilities dictate it needing to go to a new home and I will once again pay a charter boat to take me when I'm able but safe to say I wouldn't have made some of the epic days what they were if it wasn't for the fish locker youtube channel, and obviously the awesome james teaching me all sorts of things
@@mattwilson1213 - If our videos have helped you in any way Matt, then they’ve been worth making. 💙🎣
Fabulous, I enjoyed everything you showed in this video. Lovely seeing James doing his bit in the kitchen.
Birkenhead. Never been fishing in my life but really enjoy your videos and Spargos kitchen.
Watching from western Pennsylvania. Always love getting down to the ocean, but it's usually just a week every year or two. I love the videos, because I get to go along fishing or foraging every time you post a new one. God bless you and your family. Much luck and continued success. 👍👍
As usual John, great Sunday night entertainment, thanks very much.
Loving James doing the cooking! Bless that family!
Jack from Wisconsin USA
Dudley West Midlands. Love the videos, bought a boat myself now just getting into it because of this channel.
Was just saying to the Mrs that you're a fortunate man. You fish all day, get paid (UA-cam) pick the lad up from school and feed the family. What more could a guy ask for? Not a heck of a lot , I'd imagine. Watching from Prince George BC Canada.......a long way from the ocean. Am a wee bit jealous but then revel, admittedly vicariously, in your success. Well done mate!
@@stewwilliams1537 - I’m an engineer. The UA-cam is just a hobby that we do for fun.
Good trout fishing up you way though.
@@maxwilliam56 that be very true. Also a land locked salmon called a kokanee, dam fine eating those!
@@TheFishLocker So when can you quit the day job?! Hehe, I thank you for letting us tag along on your hobby! Oh yeah almost forgot again! It's been a bit of a while since the last cook up with Mr Sargo(spelling is not my strong suit) How is the man doing? Such fun those vids.
One of my favourite UA-cam channels. Thanks !
Was a good ending was nice to see the family enjoying the fruits of your labor
A wonderful day’s fishing, with a beautiful tea of fresh fish. Thank you John.
I love the magical allure of using the Saiki Rig for bait @ 01:52.
Master of the sea this fella
Enjoying the sea through your videos from land-locked Colorado, USA!
As ever John, brilliant. Thank you!!
It is good to see a good healthy fishery. 😊
Great as per usual John. James is really developing so many life skills from you. He will remember these things all his life. Brilliant. I agree, "scraps". ;)
A law abiding man! You’re such a great example of how to follow the rules and be a gentleman! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻👍👍👍
Can the exception make the rule, teehee?
Watching from Kilcullen in eastern Ireland. Fished from the shore (pier) last night and landed three fish. Two doggies and a small pouting. Tight lines John.
Great fishing.
Fascinating to see the change in the colour of the sky and the sea.
Watching from a grey & dingy Swansea.
That red fish was stunning. British waters sure do have some surprises.
The red fish is called a gurnard.
I’m in James’s camp. Gurnard are great eating fish. Starter of cuttlefish or squid, floured with spices and scraps. What a great session and tea. Just up the coast in Poole.
Cracking good video John, as usual. I’m still salivating over the cook up.
Thanks John every time i watch 1 of your vids i always learn something new thanks have a great week 🐟🦞🦀🦈🐙
Happy Sunday mate, cracking vid 👍 the food looked great 🎣
I always believed that being friendly with the local nature enforcement is far better than giving them a hard time. They will check you every time they see you if you give them a rough way to go.
In other words if you question them they will persecute you ......... guess you're one to fall into line nicely .......... policy achieved.
@@81carrerasc It is not persecution, rather you are making yourself look suspicious by your own behaviour.
@@stevebarlow3154 No. You said fall in line, or they'll keep coming after you.
IE be subservient and they'll leave you alone.
The LAW should not work that way.
If you look at the history of Government and authoritarianism we are now governed within an inch of our lives.
There are literally tens of thousands of "laws & regulations" overseeing us, whereas this was never the case even 100 years ago.
A very wise man said not that long ago to a Australian Parliamentary inquiry ....... "If you want to introduce a new law or regulation, you should be made to repeal an existing one" ......... his name was Kerry Packer .... a truly great Australian.
Fantastic video John, some lovely fish for the table, best bit ? Seeing Young James prepping the food ..awesome 👏💪
Another really enjoyable episode. Makes my Sunday complete. They are called batter bits where I come from 😀
An enjoyable watch, thank you. I appreciate the way you keep the fishing with little complication. It seems you are a man at peace with himself.
Regards, Phil, Suffolk
What a wonderful fishy feast, enjoy.
Hi John! Great show! Tell the family hi from Dallas tx!
Absolute excellent video, nice to see the family eating and enjoying great food.🐟👍
Watching from Yate North of Bristol. Batter bits I know as scrumbs. Love that your lad helps prep and cook your catch of the day. Looked bloody delicious.
That's my Sunday evening watch cheers John
Watching from Galway Ireland . Love your channel . Lots of information and tips . Nice and relaxed great to watch . Please come over to fish that would be great . Keep them coming 👍👍👍👍
Another excellent video. Interesting to see how the fisheries operate. Also nice to see the round up at the supper table with family. All good stuff!
Reckon they only board you for the free advice John!
Thought you might have kept the carcasses for the pots or are the thieving gets giving you too many problems?
The Calamari looked lovely and you're definitely right, the name for the batter is scraps, all you need now is some mushy peas!
Northern Ireland. Smashing content Fish Locker ❤
John, thank you mate for all the informative videos! Tight lines 🎣
Hi John . I'm from Oxford . Couldn't be further from the sea unfortunately! Love Cornwall , especially Mevagissey . Great video as usual !

Scrumpdelicious! Yes, made up word but seemed appropriate. Nice to see James cooking. Tuning in from Boise, Idaho, USA.
Outstanding work from the Fishlocker Crew👍
Another great show 👍 watching from Tasmania
i had salt and pepper squid fe dinner last night.... no fish sadly, or fried crispys. but i do like that james really gets in and assists mum and dad with it all
A dinner fit for a king .. well done James that cuttle batter looked absolutely perfect 👏🏻
@@thesolentwarrior584 - He was watching you very closely and nailed it all on his own.
@@TheFishLocker fantastic job 👏🏻 I’m going to have to pop out tomorrow night and see if I can find a few squid and cuttle to cook up now 🤤
Another cracking vid, John - always happy to see our waters being policed - and you know the rules well enough to never have to worry 👊 Thanks for sharing - and hi from the rainy North of England 👊
Je regarde depuis la France vous faites de tres belles et bonnes vidéos mille merci
East coast of Canada. We were into the Stripe bass over the weekend. Surf casting on the Bay of Fundy. We had a blast, using double dropper rigs and cut mackerel.
Excellent again as usual, amazing to me really Great thanks again
Watching from Kent.. great stuff John
John, I finally managed to get out on a charter prior to yesterday’s storms, out of Newquay on Thursday on a huge tide, had some nice red bream and 2 near 2lb Scads, used a mackerel as a flapper and lost a huge ray about 20ft under the boat. Unbelievable difference in weather in 2 days.
Thanks again for the great video they make my Sunday night, so 😊 all the best to you and your family
Watching from South Somerset, Hannah revealing the oven baked fish and James crunching the scraps has made me hungry! But its ten pm and now is not the best time to start eating. 😢😊.
When i was a kid at Primary School we would go to the local fish and chip shop for lunch and get 20c worth of chips wrapped in newspaper and if you were one of the lucky ones he would scoop the "crispys' off the top of the oil and put them in with your chips...thanks for the memories 😁
Thanks John; regards from Merseyside Bud.👌👏
Great moneyshot :) Brilliant, great videos that always provide some new learning
They're called scraps! A great day's fishing you even managed a couple of dogfish.
I know that I've said this before but in the 1950s our approach to conservation regarding bass was completely different. Our ideal keeping size was about 30cm ( pan size) anything over 35 would have been put back. Suprised that you didn't keep those cuttle bones. They're valuable retailing at about £1•75 each in the pet bird trade. If you saved them all over the season you'd have quite a valuable haul. Looked a fabulous meal.
Love the Old Bay seasoning! Put it on your chips too
Thanks John, awesome video as always. Watching from Lanzarote
Awsome video John. watching from west midlands🎣
We used cuttle fish backbones to cast silver jewelry into. They make a very interesting pattern. An old world casting process.
Well done John! I was about to say it is not a normal day’s fishing…and the there it was…the dogfish😂😂😂. Great video and great catch for the table.🎉🎉🎉
Hi, John, Hannah and superstar James, great video as always, love the follow up through catch, clean, prepare, cook and eat. Great channel, wouldn't miss for anything. Best regards from Rob in Fuengirola 😊
That Meal is to Die for so yum ate it with my eyes Thanks!
Cardiff South Wales, cracking as usual john
As always very professional video you make it look very easy keep them coming
Exactly John if you have nothing to hide ! You have nothing to worry about , nice to see those people out checking boats . But what nice fish after a lumpy sea take care see you next time out😊 wasn't expecting that Cook up at the end john real tasty 😊😊
Nice one John , thank you.
...mean this sincerely mate.... your videos go from strength to strength....this particular one covered all that you do at sea and why you fish..even at 720 the picture quality is superb...I live in carshalton Surrey by the river wandle...a chalk stream that starts in Surrey hills and a tributary to the Thames....I'm off tomorrow after recent rain to fish my local stretch....free fishing for barbel chubb and decent sized roach on feeder tactics...all the best see you next sunday 6pm👍
Good to show the authorities boarding. Like with any stop and search, nothing to hide, nothing to be worried about.
Hope you are all keeping well? How is Jim? Not seen him on the channel recently. Hope he is doing ok. Take care.
Hi John, usually out of Poole but for a short time in Polzeath. And now listening to the satisfying crunch of the prepping bit. Ha ! Seeing the nipper getting in there too happy days.
At last the Fisheries doing their job; high profile boardings like this I'm sure deters malpractice, and the fisheries man was asking all the right questions.
It's also so easy to get caught out with the size of the live bait mackerel; happened to me off the French coast and it took ages to convince the armed officer that I was not going to land them!.
Thank you John , watching from PA. U.S.A.
The are called scramptions in the northeast Northumberland
Great videos as always. Inspirational. I'm on a sib at the moment but a warrior it will be in two years when I return to Tyneside
Good video as usual. Watching from Woodbridge, Suffolk.
Fabulous stuff, and a meal fit for a King! (Love your "Lucy" platter.) Greetings from New York City.
Evening John, watching from south Gloucestershire.
