HoonTruck: Say Hello To My 1965 Ford F100

  • It's time to introduce the newest Hooniverse project vehicle. Say hello to HoonTruck; my "new" 1965 Ford F100. She's a strong runner in decent shape, and she's going to get some work done and minor upgrades along the way.
    This video provides a bit of insight into the truck itself and gives a glimpse at what we have in store for the future.
    The plan here is that I'm going to do most of the work myself. I'm not a great wrench, but I'm going to learn on HoonTruck. If I screw something up, we'll show you that, but hopefully we'll also inspire some of you to pick up your own wrenches along the way...

    I built that truck at the Milpitas plant when I went to work there in the summer of '64. Lots of memories....good and bad! Great trucks; especially the F100's as that was the only model with the then-new Twin I Beam suspension. Take care of her.

    There is nothing "really crappy" about the ol' Sealed Beam headlights. They produce a better beam than composite halogen lights. Only HID and maybe LED outperform them...
    You want really crappy headlights? Any car from the 90s with plastic headlights. THOSE are "really crappy".

    Being from the same era as that truck I had more than a little experience with that one specifically and many both older and newer. I'd bet the farm that's a 360 CID engine, by FAR the most common of the day. I drove them as service vehicles, and we did our own (minor) maintenance on "our" trucks.

    I can't wait to see what's in store for ol' HoonTruck. It has been a great story since the beginning. I just lost my best friend in a crash, and the one thing we shared was our love of Fords and cars in general. So great content from you and other automotive youtubers really does help me think off the good times we had, not the bad now. Also, can I put my vote in for Jeff Glucker for Top Gear?

    When you upgrade the lights, I really suggest upgrading the headlight wiring. Stock headlight wiring before OEMs started putting in relays _sucked dick_. Voltage at the battery on my 1993 Volvo 240 at idle is 13.7v. At the headlight connector? 11.8v. That's a HUGE drop in luminescence. First upgrade I'm doing to the lights (beside glass E-Code lenses) is relays and much heavier gauge wiring to eliminate the voltage drop.
    Edit:
    Talk to this guy - danielsternlighting.com/

    • @Krankie_V
      @Krankie_V 9 років тому +1

      With LED replacements, the current draw is reduced so much that the stock wiring -should- be sufficient. Those old Sealed Beam lights suck a lot of juice.

    • @678friedbed
      @678friedbed 9 років тому

      The 300 straight 6 can produce a heck of a lot of horse power. They are stronger, last longer and is something different then the norm. Comp cams can build you a custom cam for almost the same price as an off the shelf. And Clifford performance builds makes some really good straight 6 performance parts. Or you can buy a turn key 300 from them that they say puts out 600 hp

    • @TheHooniverse

    • @678friedbed

      Also with the 300 having a life span from 65 to 96 you can go down the the junk yard and get parts for it anywhere also the block is the same from 65 to 96 so a 96 fuel injection will bolt up to a 65 300 so there is no worries as to will this part work on my 300. The list can go on and on of reason why.

    Too bad they don't make small, affordable, basic trucks anymore. Between all the auto regulations and the small dicked posers who finance their trucks pushing prices up for those who would pay cash, new trucks are too expensive, it's a joke. 50k, 60k, 70k plus...
