- In a new statement from (now former?) Megadeth guitarist Kiko Loureiro, he has announced that he must extend his absence from the band due to ongoing family issues. What will Dave Mustaine do now? Will Teemu Mäntysaari stay? Will Marty Friedman rejoin? Let's discuss.

my first "big" concert prize was a wristband I caught from Kiko back in 2017... bittersweet but im surprised he lasted this long
Good, that was a good exposure for Kiko but he's so overqualified for this gig, he can focus on more interesting things now.
If this is him quitting, it'd be nice if he'd use less wishy-washy terminology than "extend my absence." The rest of the statement reads like he's quitting but that line's pretty ambiguous.
That said, I doubt this is paving the way for the return of Friedman. They've released something like 47 albums since he left the band. Unless he needs the money, it's hard to see him wanting to learn all of that stuff just to be a hired gun.

Marty played with the band 3 times in the last couple years, and Kiko had to play rhythm for him...Seemed kinda awkward, I bet that didn't help the situation lol
Kiko only leaves Megadeth if he wants to. He's a phenomenal guy and Mr. Mustaine knows it.
He just dropped like a rock. A full-on Casper the ghost. Pretty strange for a guy who spent a lot of time building up his UA-cam channel with consistent postings of videos. I know his wife was a professional musician so the rigors of touring and a musician's life shouldn't be new to her. There has to be something else going on.

Maybe he'll try his luck with Kerry King's ego..err band, for a change?

So, I am Brazilian, and I totally support his decision. First of all, Americans don't actually understand how much family is important to us in Brazil. However, If you really want to be successful as a Brazilian, you've got to be an exception to this rule. So far, Kiko has been an exception to this rule.
He is extremely professional and has military-level discipline. When he is not touring he is always practicing to improve even more his technique.
However, he is 51 now, and his oldest child is 12. He has been touring with Megadeth for the last 9 years and also with Angra before that. I can pretty much imagine the teenage emotional blackmailer talking of his teenage daughter: 'You don't love me, you love Dave. You don't have time for me; you only have time for that stupid guitar and stupid band.'" And he knows she is right since he cannot say to her that he is with Megadeth because he needs to feed his family, since he already has more than enough money to live a comfortable life. He also has an 85-year-old father who also needs his company too.
Kiko is very good, including in compositions! Dave must wait for him to solve the problems. This last album was one of the best I've heard in years!
