- BREAKING NEWS!!! Megadeth has fired Kiko Loureiro for new super shredder Teemu Mantysaari! To be fair Kiko wasn't fired...according to the public statement, he's taking time off to be with his family. The question is, can this new guy hang with the incredible lineage of Megadeth lead lords? Will he be able to replicate Marty Friedman's solos and win the hearts of Megadeth fans? Not to mention, can he live up to Dave Mustain's expectations? We're going to find out by watching his first show with the band performing HANGER 18. Along the way I'll analyze the music theory, musicianship and overall presentation of the group. Could this be the best Megadeth lineup ever?

Dave was good enough to give Kiko time off for his family. Good on Dave for that. Kiko is DEFINITELY still in the band and your title was a bit of a cheap shot. Especially because we don't know what's happened. Kikos mom or dad could be sick or have died. God forbid a child of his is sick. As for this guitarist he plays the parts with easily with stage presence. I think kiko actually recommend him. In any case Dave's got winner here.... cheers.
Teemu was definitely recommended by Kiko , Kiko actually lives in Finland where Teemu is from.

Kiko being in Angra and Teemu being in Wintersun - Megadeth isn't an easy ticket but both of the previous bands have some seriously tough guitar sections and solos and demand just as much good playing. I wouldn't bet against either of these guys.
Kiko and Teemu are on another level. Both of these men seem to be pretty incredible on guitar. there are a lot of great guitar players out there these days and that is awesome. Dave's playing is quite excellent as well, even after the arm injury.🤘

Finally power metal guitarrists are in the map. Sonata Arctica, Helloween, Angra, Stratovarius, Rhapsody with Turilli, without Turilli, with Staropolli and without. There's a ton.
For those who doesnt know - Teemu is a long-time Wintersun guitar player, who played on live shows and he has extreeeemely great skills. He was featured by Troy Grady on his channel too. Shred was right - he is not doing that much of live shows (since Wintersun is - well - basically fell apart), but he has his own band too.
He's an absolute shredder. Hoping wintersun will be alright though. I believe asim is no longer playing for them.

Every Megadeath guitarists make me thinking about what Marty was. He remains the reference. He remains the terms of coparison for every player
I never liked his pussy hair and image. Broderick is my favorite.
It's because he wrote the book mate he's the guy that wrote all the solo's all these other guys grew up learning and were stoked when they finally nailed one of Marty's leads that's why he's the point of reference and the guy we measure all other Megadeth lead guitarists against it's one thing to be a shredder it's another thing entirely to write solo's timeless enough they go straight into history pages of metal
Marty is the benchmark.

Basically all the guys since Marty are bad ass players in their own right. Its just that Marty is a straight up legend.
Teemu is amazing player and he seems to be a great humble guy. I hope he finds new job when Kiko comes back.

Teemu is a serious player, and it’s easily getting the job done. although this is a sad time for Kiko on a positive we get to see a new guitarist I personally hadn’t seen before and hopefully Kiko can rejoin the band once he settles his home life

Megadeth has had so many interesting guitar players over they years, Chris Broderick is definitely one of the most underrated
out there, his two handed tapping sections were absolutely insane. Kiko was so great cause he brought that Brazilian Samba
influence into Megadeth and played so well, he can also play pretty much anything. Friedman and Rust in Peace album is God Tier Level Metal.

Guy sounds amazing! I’m 3 hours away from my first Megadeth concert. My 8 year old son’s first Megadeth concert and only the second concert he has been to. For some reason this kid has been driving my wife and I crazy for 2 years to see them. Idk if I’m more excited to see them or taking my son! Ahhh…daddy and son bonding! I love you little man!
Im glad you’re bringing up stage presence. Waaaay too many bands put a lot more stock on skill than their performance. People pay to see a SHOW. I didnt leave the house and pay good money to see a clinic. We need ENERGY! Kiko is a master at both. A rare combination these days.
Stage presence matters, but not more than playing well.
Hence why punk bands are generally inferior to metal bands.

Depends on what you define as energy and stage presence. Blind Guardian for example, which happens to be my favorite band, have a lot of energy on stage, but no stage presence. They still fill out stadiums.
@@kaield4763 i agree that if you play complex music, it would be disappointing if the players are doing backflips to entertain but completely ruin the song. That being said, I can’ tell you the amount of times I’ve gone out to see a technical band play live and it’s me and a room full of guitar nerds just standing around staring at a stage with five dudes in t-shirts. I’ve had a better time seeing a band like say Lightning Bolt, and I’m not sure what the hell they were playing. But goddamn that crowd was moving. Different approaches for sure, but as far as seeing a SHOW goes, gimme the wild crowd any day!
I thought the exact same thing you said at 6:12. Teemu sounds like he spent some serious time listening to the album versions of these songs, because he is using that timing and those inflections in his playing.
I have to say Broderick was a lot like this guy. Super accurate and played it just like the album. Never missed a not in the whole set. My friend and I were blown away.

Teemu has been one of my top favorite for years now. He's incredibly clean; I put him right next to Brandon Ellis.
Teemu is like Chris. Very accurate note per note. Just like a machine IMO.

Chris is good but I saw Chris make a solo mistake at the battle of San Bernardino when he was in Megadeth. Saw Teemu with wintersun played perfectly with no mistakes and played wintersun songs way more heavier faster and melodic.

Afaik Kiko was the guy who recommended Teemu to Dave. To work as his replacement when he takes a break, though it still up in the air whether Kiko will return.
Saw Wintersun in Philadelphia for the Seasons tour. Teemu is phenomenal live.

Love Kiko! I think Kiko brings the most out of Dave. I saw them twice the first tour he had with the band about 6 months apart. At that second show you can see how Dave really stepped up his game compared to the first one and I contributed this all to Kiko!

Chris Poland will always be my all time favorite. Marty has a Dragonforce vibe to him, not that's a bad thing or anything, but if you listen to their discography with Marty Megadeth's gotten softer album after album. however, that does not discredit Marty for everything he's done for Megadeth on top of how immaculate his guitar playing is. imho, Poland's lead guitar works perfectly with Mustaine's rhythm guitar.

Really liked Broderick in the band. Poland is a great fit aswell, even his solos on that underated masterpiece system has failed are great, that's one of my favorite Megadeth albums.

Kiko still has the job. When Dave fires someone, he doesnt fuck around. So, no, kiko just has something serious back home with his family. He is from Brazil, he lives with his wife in Finland....clear across the globe. So when something happens, its not like its all jusy up the road from Daves house in Nashville. Its all good: at least as far as kikobstill being in the band. I do hope he & his family are all going to be ok.
This guy plays like a beast for sure! Funny thing is all Megadeth guitarists have a very similar silhouette, see Drover, Pitrelli, Broderick, Kiko and now this guy! Tall, slim and long hair! I think Dave first checks the skills and then the looks😂
Imagine if Jeff Waters had taken the offer years ago. He might have left his stamp on one album, maybe just long enough before Mustaine's mental illness kicked in.

Dave is a master musician and having a band for decades shows he knows what the hell he’s doing he’s made his fortune and the band is a monster it keeps consuming great players that says a lot after all these years and for Dave going into his sixties and still shredding says a lot Dave and all his band members are all legends in my book

Officially it's just a temporary leave for Kiko to deal with family issues.
Scott is one of my favorite youtubers, but his clickbait abuse sometimes gets out of hand.
Since this is a today's video about last week news, was curious if there was any update, which wasn't.
Kiko is pretty much fired from Megadeth, Dave is just waiting for the best moment to make it official. He's already dismissing Kiko's talent as a metal guitarrist and praising new guitarrist Teemu like the best one they ever had in the band, just like Dave always does.

Chris Poland is an absolute beast of a player, my favorite by far.
Chris Poland was the best fit for Megadeth. I would’ve loved to hear him play more then just demo’s on Rust in Peace. At least he came back for The System Has Failed!
Dave is very close to Kiko. He has said that not since Marty has he’s played with a guitarist he’s loved to play with more.
However, I’ve never known Dave to let anyone off the hook when it comes to tour obligations. So either Dave’s old and sentimental, or he cut Kiko loose and is keeping it quiet so as to not lose ticket sales. Kiko has a rather large following online, and as far as Megadeth guitarists go, he’s well loved in the metal community.
When Chris Broderick left, a lot of fans were upset, and maybe Dave learned from this and is keeping it quiet.
More likely though? Kiko will be back.
He says that about every new member, he said the same about Al petrelli.
Even at top pro level, learning a 2 hr Megadeth set nailed down really tight would be weeks of preparation, is there a 'co-driver' thing where each touring member has a stand in already rehearsed and ready to go at a few day's notice?

There should a class for filming bands with a special module for filming the guy playing the solo instead the rythym or bass player… as soon as a solo starts the camera always goes away from the person playing it then comes back to them as the solo finishes.. why?
That phyrgian dominant? 2nd solo at 7.10 I call it the 'Alien mode' ! but almost Bach like in it's playing. Dave sounding a bit monotone on the vocals tho, bless him.
I always think Megadeth should do the Ozzy guitar thing - play the song, but in your own way...brings out each guitarist's style a lot more.

Marty Friedman is the best Megadeth has had. Chris Poland is also very underrated, The Conjuring and Good Morning Black Friday are 2 of my favorite songs still.
