Just watched Chan perform this live and I was in tears. The woman is a gifted storyteller in her own right but her interpretation of the covers she curates is evocative and haunting.

Until today I didn't know the original version of this song. This cover is so different from the original that I don't even recognise it. Very great interpretation
That's the Cat Power power. It's a spectacular talent. I always hold her up to Jeff Buckley's talent; he, too, could transform a "cover" song and seemingly make it his own.
Does anyone know what effect she has on the mic is it just a ton of reverb? Or compression? I don’t know anything about it but it picks up so much subtlety and warm tone. She doesn’t have to belt stuff out.... would love to know.

Keep this classic style of your singing voice... Don't change you singing style. By the way, in my opinion, this live performance actually sounds way better than the studio cover version.

the original was amazing. as a song its unique in its structure and its theme- a mans grappling with his sexuality. its about experiencing a new kind of heartbreak- kindve like the film call me by your name. its already unusual subject matter but chan has really transformed the song itself and redesigned it without losing one ounce of emotion. thats so difficult for most musicians but she just does it effortlessly.

Now i need a chan and frank song
This for me without question is better than the original. But that is essence of the Western folk tradion is it not-to mimic,copy and reproduce for the ages. I have been listening to Kate Stables for the past 4 years very regularly and decided to revisit something of Chan's I hadn't listened to but once. This performance is a gem.
